rcnut Posted March 14, 2017 Report Posted March 14, 2017 A friend purchased from a private sale a DPMS 223 cal. with a 20 in barrel, non threaded barrel, regular front sight , non floating hand guard, A 1 stock, fixed carry handle, and adj. rear site. he wants to know if it is a pre ban rifle. serial number is 5 digits,. 13xxx. any help and info would be appreciated. thank you.
Sisco Posted March 14, 2017 Report Posted March 14, 2017 I kind of doubt it, the AR15 patents didn't expire I don't think untill the ban was in place. 98 or one of the other really knowledgeable guys probably know. The only pre ban AR15's I have seen, including mine, are Colt.

It would have to be a receiver below serial number 10300. Here's a good example: http://209.251.48.101/forums/t_2_30/281582_DPMS-Early-Years.html

planeflyer21 Posted March 14, 2017 Report Posted March 14, 2017 In Arizona (and other states no longer honoring any kind of ban), the "pre-ban" is just a marketing ploy to get more cash by the seller. At current AR rifle prices, it is ridiculous to pay $1200 because it is "pre-ban," when current production for $1200 will get you a much nicer rifle. Of course if I was selling said rifle...

You could research most of their stuff, after the factory disaster. Prior to that, no info. DPMS doesn't have any of that, and people have been pushing them for it for years.
