New to 308 Build

Recommended Posts

Hello, Im sure that I'm not the only one to post about this but there is entirely too many brands out there. Im looking to build a 308.  I was leaning towards DPMS, PSA, Aramalite or Stag arms. I just read a bad review on here about armalite. And I also read a bad review about Palmetto State Armory. Im really stumped. Im not looking to spend a fortune on one but something reasonable. I also don't want to have any issues with it. I really would like to have a compensator that is pinned and welded but no big deal if its not. I also would like to be able to buy a stripped lower and a complete upper from the same company. Not too long of a rifle either. Maybe 16". Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Spikes was also in my list, they will build the upper for me before they send it but they don't have a picture what it will look like so I really don't want to be surprised. Anderson has an unassembled kit for $950 but a few buddies of mine built uppers and they said its a pain and to just have that done from the company. Anderson will also not sell a stripped lower so then again back to the drawing boards. I don't want some frankenstein build. Thanks

Are you thinking pin and weld to keep as short as possible? I did that on a 5.56 build for the wife and have been very pleased with the outcome.

As far as uppers being a pain to build, I'd rather build two uppers than go furniture shopping with the wife, much less painful for me and I'm used to having gas port size issues!

Yes that is correct jtallen. Haha I have never done an upper build but if I did I would order every part from the same company so there is no issues. Both of my buddies told me to buy it complete because it's a p.i.t.a. Also I don't mind furniture shopping my wife isn't difficult. Lol

Engrbob - nothing wrong with Frankenstein guns. I just want the gun to have some sort of value in the future and be one brand.

If I'm not not mistaken, I thought you could get a stripped lower from Anderson? http://www.primaryarms.com/anderson-manufacturing-ar-15-stripped-lower-receiver-ar-15-a3

Thank you unforgiven but I really would like new and as far as barrel I would like cvm or the nitride. The company has what I'm looking for, but ofourse there bcg is out of stock like every other site. I YouTube'd upper build and it honestly didn't seem hard if your handy, have tools & have a brain. One thing I didn't like on aero is there stripped lower for safe/fire it looked cheesy

Select the NiB option he has four left.

Here's the link for the NiB option

NIB may be slicker but it also can flake off where QPQ cannot. I have both types from Wilson and honestly the difference in cleaning is negligible. I bought one of his blems and can't find the blem, they are a steal for $155!
