Educate me on whether or not I can run an A2 buttstock on a M4 upper and how.

And if not, how to afix a collapsible stock in a permanent position.

Reason is I was gifted a Bushmaster M4gery upper for Christmas and want to build the lower for it.

yes just purchas you're butt stalk and required tube/spring/ buffer.. should be a kit that will suffice.  I believe oden and magpul provide selective length of pull butt stalks.

Ive only built the opposite so i may be wrong? and short on better options.. but yes it can be done.

A1/A2 stock uses a rifle extension/buffer/spring. (A2 uses the same tube as A1 with a spacer)

You can "pin" a carbine setup in place to make it fixed but im not sure what requirements are in place for legality sake.

Either setup works on any lower. The upper doesnt make any difference. A2 stock works fine with M4 upper.

What he said.  Only other thing, though - A2 is just a longer stock piece on an A1 rifle extension.  It takes the 5/8" spacer on the end of the extension to make that happen - and the A2 vented buttstock screw is 5/8" longer than the A1 vented screw.  You'll never get an A2 on there with the A1 screw.

okay, let me make sure I have this correct. As long as I get the A2 rifle buttstock and rifle extension, a rifle buffer and spring system I get it will work with that carbine gas system, correct?

this is I guess what I should have asked in the first place.

and for and for what it's worth, I am a fixed buttstock, rifle length A2 style of ape arms kinda guy.  I can't stand the wobble from a collapsible stock.

There are some collapsible stocks with no wiggle, Magpul makes several with locks that firm things right up.

I hate narcotics. I went back and reread what I had posted, and instead of an M4gery, it should be and A2 style carbine upper.

I went down on the ice on Monday, ended up with rib contusions and a really good concussion.

A2 stocked lower will work fine with any upper assuming theres nothing wrong with the upper.

^^^^^This is what I wanted to hear!  Thanks.

Gas system and recoil system are completely independent of each other.  One doesn't care about the other - as long as both are up to spec, and work.
