UserNameIsNotWitty
So first post other than introduction, and hopefully it’s going to be a fun one.. I’ve got this idea of a setup with a 16-16.5 barrel, rifle length gas, adjustable block, carbine tube, and mainly ran suppressed, but would like it to reliably run unsuppressed... am I crazy? too short of dwell without can? Would love opinions either way..
jtallen83
I've got a 16 inch rifle gas, runs good suppressed or not. Had to open the gas port up from the manufacturer then added an adjustable gas block when I got a suppressor, thankfully the knowledge here was well beyond the manufacturer's knowledge. AzRon
Yes you are crazy (we all are so....) now that we have that out of the way 🤪 @jtallen83 is right there is great knowledge here, but be willing to listen to what they say and follow any advice they give you! Magwa
yep Crazy you may be but you can have your bang stick canned or uncanned and it will run just fine , you may have to tweek it a bit but no biggie...
UserNameIsNotWitty
‘Preciate the reply’s guys.. first time I’ve unanimously heard it’s doable... can’t wait to learn a thing or two. Haven’t broken out a tape, and Google fu is weak, what am I looking at here for size from shoulder to end of barrel at 16??
98Z5V
For the working barrel configuration from one specific manufacturer, here's what works, unsuppressed. 16" barrel, rifle gas, medium-heavy contour, 0.936" gas block journal size, 0.105" gas port diameter. OP, this is the barrel to look for - when it's back in stock. Don't mean to preach or anything, but you picked a bad time to build one, I'm just sayin'... https://criterionbarrels.com/products/large-frame-ar/dpms-pattern-308-hybrid-barrel-rifle-gas-stainless/?v=00dc5da36527
UserNameIsNotWitty
Thanks! I have had my eye on that one ever since I finished this build in March before everything dried up. I live in one of the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad states, so forgive the brace, somehow qualifies as an “other firearm” which is exempt from our awb. Cannot confirm journal size on current aero precision, but was thinking worst comes to worst, barrel cut.. but is it worth my time for the extra 2”? (That’s what she said) plus barrel is fluted so no go on cut? Other option I’m bouncing around is a mid gas 14.5...
DNP
Crazy would be to build both. And then maybe an SBR, an 18” barrel and 20 or 22...might as well collect the whole set.
