Well I knew it was coming, did my first electrical update, installing timer switches for the bathroom. While not done unsafely, fast and sloppy and not a fan of back stabbed devices.

What surprises me as sloppy as this was it must have been someone else doing the pannel as that's OK.

Oh well as I paint, I can tackle the switches and outlets.

I’ve been in my house for 19 years last November I still curse the electrician who wired all upstairs and then my basement when it was finished prior to me

I remodeled my bathroom last spring decided to put in black switches and replace the gfi with a black one w/ a night light. Switches breaker was easy to find. After 4-5 trips up and down the stairs to find the breaker for the gfi outlet just started flipping breakers……..turns out it’s tided in with the basement for some stupid reason

Screws slots not all vertical.

Wires back stabbed rather than using screws.

Even though not being used the screws are not screwed down, especially in a multi device box.

While it's good to have wire length, to much is almost as bad.

As I work on my place everything gets labeled. What works nicely is a label maker using the clear tape and black lettering, small font and bottom curve of the coverplate.

I also hate when they don’t put a wrap of electrical tape around the switches.

I can feel for you brother. I hate those lazy ass back stabbed devices. I also tape everything regardless of whether it's in a plastic or steel box.

I hate residential work in general. Give me commercial any day of the week.

The worst resi work is dealing with some other hacks resi work :fullauto:

You guys seen these? Leviton Edge series, no exposed metal bits and lever cam action plate to secure the wire.

That's all apple pie tech, even here it's not super common on the shelf product. Electrical wholesalers will bring them in if they don't have them in stock.
