J.D.Sly
I'm a newbie and just put a DPMS LR308 (with the 18 in. barrel) on layaway last week. I am interested in shooting at the 600-yard range at my local sportsmen's club (our longest range) and have two questions: Is that a good 600-yd rifle, and could anyone recommend a scope for that distance that is preferably not more than $500? Thanks.
Matt.Cross
First off, welcome to the forums. The answer to both questions is a resounding yes. I think you'll have no problem finding fine optics in the $500 range. Just prepare for the flood of possibilities that's about to overwhelm you.... <thumbsup>
J.D.Sly
Thanks for the warm welcome and and for instilling some confidence in me concerning the LR308, Matt. Looking forward to getting the rifle out of hibernation at my local Gander Mountain. Can almost hear it calling me!

planeflyer21
Welcome J.D.Sly from AZ!Plenty of rifle for that range. Check out the Vortex, Nikon, and Redfields in that price range...should be plenty to choose from there.Jon
edgecrusher
Welcome, that should be easy for your rifle, and as long as you do your part it should be repeatable again and again and again….. 8)

J.D.Sly
Thanks for the reply, washguy. 8x32 will definitely be plenty of magnification. I was doing some research and I am wondering if the tube diameter on that scope is 1 inch. Apparently, from my understanding, you need a 30mm tube diameter to have ample MOA adjustment for longer range target shooting. I will check into that scope more, though. Nikon is good quality scope from all that I have heard.

98Z5V
Scope: Nikon M-308 with BDC-800 reticle. 40 MOA of internal adjustment, but you probably won't use it, due to the BDC reticle. http://www.nikonhunting.com/products/riflescopes/m-308/4-16x42_SF_BDC_800/8495Street price under $500, and it includes the mount.
