Sounds like you worked WAY too hard, bro - here's all you needed, with a cut-down casing, maybe 1/4" of the base, at the most:

poop, I would have been at your place, had I known!  <dontknow>

 

You cut the case short, so there's not so much "spring leverage" when the end of the round is on the bolt face.  Stays put that way.  It's in there strong enough to tap the pin right out.  I have a small, drilled piece of wood (hole) for the bolt tail to go into.  Loosen up mini-vise, and everything slowly comes apart.  <thumbsup>

That needs photos and a full write up...then sticky. I'm on my way over with the camera...don't move. Unless you're outta beer, then I suggest you go get some more.
