shibiwan Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) So, 400-500 rounds from brand new, I noticed my CMMG's float tube was loose while cleaning it earlier. Took a closer look and noticed it was the barrel nut that was working loose. Pulled the float tube and the gas block+gas tube and it was hand tight but I could unscrew the barrel nut by hand. %^@#$&^@#% Torqued it back down with proper tools and put everything back together... Hoping it stays that way. Maybe this will explain some of my inconsistencies. -S P.S. Sorry... just had to gripe. Edited October 26, 2013 by shibiwan
edgecrusher Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Nope that's a legit gripe. Good catch, hope this provides you some answers
98Z5V Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 That's not the first time it's happened, from CMMG, either. Another instance right here on the board - survivalshop diagnosed and repaired it for the owner. The CMMG isn't a bad rifle, at all. I think I'd do a complete teardown and rebuild on it if I got one, though. The parts are very good - it's the assembly.
shibiwan Posted October 26, 2013 Author Report Posted October 26, 2013 I read something similar somewhere so that's why I wasn't too happy when I found mine loose. Wonder if it's something to do with the barrel nut...maybe you're right about the assembly bit. Mine came with the wrong bolt catch but they quickly replaced that.

His rifle is a real shooter now , he was surprised at the difference in grouping .
shibiwan Posted November 11, 2013 Author Report Posted November 11, 2013 His rifle is a real shooter now , he was surprised at the difference in grouping . Finally took it out to the range yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the consistent and tight groups!! I was averaging 3/4" at 100 yds.
