wbrewski Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Has anyone tried this and is there any recipes for this? I have a very large quantity of 30-06 cases.
98Z5V Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Should be real easy to do. Determine the length to cut the case first. Run it through the sizer die, make final length corrections after that. Very similar process to making 300BLK from 5.56 NATO. You're only going from 7.62x63 to 7.62x51.
shibiwan Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Hmmm... this could be a nice experiment. I think I have some 30-06 shells lying around.
Microgunner Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Don't they have different rim and extractor groove dimensions?
mineralman55 Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 While the base dimensions are the same, the shoulders are 2.5 deg. different. Spend a few bucks and get some .308 dies and some 1x-fired LC cases. I wouldn't do it. My face is too important. http://saami.org/PubResources/CC_Drawings/Rifle/30-06%20Springfield.pdf http://saami.org/PubResources/CC_Drawings/Rifle/308%20Winchester.pdf
Dane Armory Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Hmmm... this could be a nice experiment. I think I have some 30-06 shells lying around.Hmmmmm ! Got a bunch also. 270 Win is another source for 308 brass if you are going to size it.
survivalshop Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) With once fired 308 brass so redly available , why bother . Another thread for the reloading section. Edited November 7, 2014 by survivalshop
Tripledeuce Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 At one time, I made a few thousand 300 savage cases out of '06. All that required is a file/trim die. Respectfully Terry
98Z5V Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 While the base dimensions are the same, the shoulders are 2.5 deg. different. Running the cut -06 case through the .308 Win sizer die makes a completely new shoulder on it - for .308 Win.
survivalshop Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 After case forming ,the case will be fire formed after the first firing & as long as it doesn't read 30'06 on the base , you will never know it was one by looking at it . Annealing will make the case last longer for reloading , of course.
