  1. Bottom one is the 308AR Bolt Catch, the top is a std AR 15 . Since you have a 80% Lower , the machining may not be to spec's , the depth of the Channel for it may not be deep enough . Can you manually hold the Bolt Catch in & have it hold ?
  2. Are you using a 308 Bolt catch or an AR 15 ? Don't expect the Bolt Catch to hold the Bolt if no Empty mag is in place in the Mag well . It will not take much for the Bolt Catch to release if no mag in place & the Catch can be modified , as said , to add more travel to hold it in place .
  3. TacOps-1 is the only one I use . If you use just a enhanced Latch, like the Badger , you will see increased wear on one side of the Charging handles Rail & probably the Upper Receivers Charging Handles channel for it .
  4. That gap doesn't seem excessive , I would look into the travel of the Bolt Stop , maybe a burr or the Bolt Stop can be altered , if not raising high enough when activated by a Empty Mag. or Manually activated . Would you answer my questions about the pins , in my last post ?
  5. As said the FN Barrel is most likely a Hammer forged & should give better accuracy over the life of the Barrel . The Nitrated Barrels have really not been around long enough to make any kind of a statement one way or the other . My experience so far is that treatment on a Stainless Steel Barrel & it shot great ( Criterion ) & was easy to clean & seemed not to foul as much as a std S/S Barrel . I have a 16" Mid , piston system with a Nitrated only Barrel , but because of some foulass Hurricane that came by here , I have not even had a chance to shoot her yet . Looking like Tuesday at the earliest now .
  6. The article reads , HK said they troops in the field were adding a cover that was not on the procured & field tested rifle & that was the reason for the extra heat that was altering the Plastic Barrel holder . 60 rounds , that would have shown up on trials & not only theirs , a lot of others are in the field all over . Makes you wonder .
  7. Pivot Pin or just the Disassembly Pin or both ? You could have some over sized Pins made & fit them , but that opens up other issues . How do the Pins fit into just the Lower , are they loose ? This is why we recommend the same manufacturers for the Upper & Lower Receivers , Tolerance Stacking of miss matched components .
  8. Did they add this " Tin Cover " in the field , was it tested with it for field trials ? They are correct that sustained full auto will heat up any barrel , same problem with the early M16 & its pencil BBL., its why the MG 44 & many other SAW 's have a changeable barrel . Burst fire was always taught in firing the select fire M 16 , just wasn't adhered to in combat ( like someone expected anyone to do so) . A heavier Barrel would have given better results then & probably with the G36 ,as a heavier barrel has been changed on the latest version of the m4 for this reason.
  9. I got the ALG Defense Forged MilSpec Receiver extension & a std Extruded MilSpec Receiver extensions today & am impressed with the ALG Product . There is a slight difference in weight , with the Forged a little heavier , I have no scale that can weigh them & feel it would be an accurate measurement , so I didn't bother . You really can't tell them apart looking at them , just the threads & some slight machining differences . One thing that stood out was the Threads for the Castle Nut , I've not seen any this good , some of the more expensive ones are close , but nothing like this & I am comparing a relatively inexpensive one to it ( $ 22 vs $ 38 for ALG ) , but I have over $ 40+ ones that don't compare to ALG product . You can feel & hear the different Metallurgy between the two , the ALG just feels different & makes a different noise when setting it down or tapping it against some thing . The Nut threads on with no resistance , just better threading . ALG on the right ALG on the left ALG on top has a slight anti-cant compared to the Extruded The ALG on the right Much different packaging This Rec.Ext. is going on my BRO AR 15 build .
  10. Have they ever tried to make a chain gun in .50 cal. round ?
  11. The issue with a AR rifle vs a Bolt gun is weight , its been proven the extra Barrel length doesn't nessicssarly mean better groups in Semi Auto rifles , LaRue & others have good 1K performance with shorter barrels . I personally would not go over 20" , unless , as said , you want to shoot from a bench only or have a good rifle Barer My 20" HB rifle is over 12# with glass , but is a great shooter . LaRue rifles have won world Military Sniper match's & says a lot for a shorter Barreled rifle . Whats good about an AR is , if you don't like the Barrel or how it performs , its a easy thing to replace it . Some of the good Barrel Makers . like Criterion will work with you if the Barrel doesn't perform as its expected .

  13. You should try this one & give use a review on it , its adj. for two pull weights . Of course you may not get it at that price . http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/triggers-parts/triggers/ar-15-ar-10-enhanced-duty-trigger2-prod87857.aspx?lp_pageid=add2&cm_sp=Secondary+Banner-_-Lower+Homepage+Feature-_-HHP_New_Products
  14. This seems like a good deal on BLK ammo . http://www.brownells.com/ammunition/rifle-ammo/300-aac-blackout-124gr-fmj-ammunition-prod88175.aspx?lp_pageid=add2&cm_sp=Secondary+Banner-_-Lower+Homepage+Feature-_-HHP_New_Products
  15. Welcome from Florida . Unless you plan on a Bench Gun , the 18" Criterion Barrel with the right ammo & nut behind the Trigger , will give sub MOA results .
  16. I also buy individual components from Brownells , quantity where I can . "Their tolerances for machining are WAY over what others accept. I swear that you could use a CMMG pistol grip bolt, and it'll somehow cause a failure to function. Purchase and use at your own risk."
  17. That should work . Though the Criterion was only $ 59 more , but I know how it is , thats a lower parts kit
  18. These 308 barrels get real heavy that long .
  19. I'm all in for your build .go for it . Why are you comparing a rifle to a handgun , I hunt in Ohio with a Handgun for many years & there is no comparison between the two , even with my Scoped Anaconda , there are pounds of difference & the difficulty in using a handgun compared to a rifle or Slugun , is off the charts . I have been very successful with a Handgun because of experience over the years . I still use the Slugun & a 45-70 on different days for the fun of it , but not only are you not permitted to carry both , but I wouldn't any way , why bother. Keep us informed on your progress & some of the cost, like the Barrel . The reloading should be straight forward enough , if you have a Chronograph , some results would be cool. The Hornady FTX is a great Bullet , I use them in my Sluggun , Hornady has a Sabo 12ga. with he 325 gr. bullet & it works just great on even large Deer . My longest shot has been 158 yards & the large Buck dropped like a stone .
  20. Not only Powder , but , Bullet & Primer . I use mostly use CCI Primers , some Barrels may not like 175's or the brand of them , try Hornadys , even though SMK are as good as you can get in my book , but you never know . Also try 168 gr. Bullets , you never know until you try them & as said a different powder . I have also gotten good results with Fed. Primers with 4064 , it may take a lot of work to get the right combo & also the barrel may take a while to season up . Not unusual for added Can to print better groups . I look up my Chronograph results & grouping for 4064 with 175"s
  21. Thats more like it , good job . Have you range tested it yet ?
  22. Criterion Barrels , I have used three with 308AR's , though I just sold my 18" Criterion Hybrid barreled rifle , that Barrel with hand loads would have no problem with sub MOA . My 20"HB is a tac driver & my 16" HB is right up there also . My 16" HB weighs as much as the 18" Hybrid , which is a M118 configuration contour .
  23. Shot placement or a lot of luck , in that situation , I will take one or both
  24. Matt who ? I'm in on an east coast meet .
