  1. It was time consuming to set up though , I have a photo of after adj. the Barrel Nut , I have to down load it . I'm shooting it today to see if it made a difference or its his eye's or ammo . I have some Fed mil spec 5.56 to shoot & my hand loads .
  2. Ya , the 6.5 is all the rage with Target shooter's , if thats what your goal is . Its a speedster & with all high speed Cartridges , your Barrel life expectancy will pay for it . Some have had feeding issues , the Feed Ramps on some rifles need to be tweaked , because of the Cartridges case shape . Good Ballistic's on that Cartridge .
  3. Since the Global hit squad is reading this , I only have one shotgun, for hunting & I believe their data is BS . More Commie propaganda . When i read crap like that story , I think of the 10's of millions of hunters out there in the USA , maybe they don't count them . I don't know one hunter , that only has one gun !
  4. I have shot 155's ,168's & 175's with 16', 18' & 20 " 1-10 Barrels & all shoot fine , very good groups ,mine are all S/S Criterion Barrels , but I'm not shooting 800-1K , someone else will have to chime in at those ranges .
  5. I guess shooting range may have something to do with twist rate & Bullet weight being used & type of Bullet , will have something to do with it . I know I have heard of people who are not pleased with 1-11.5 , using 150 gr. loaded ammo ,that twist rate may like the heavies better , hard to say , too many variables . We know a 1-10 works great on a host of rifles & Bullet configurations .
  6. I quit watching the fuking NFL ! Too many rich spoiled jocks , I didnt watch Football to see Political opinions & I'm sure when I paid for a ticket I didn't buy into it . These fukheads are spoiling it for the rest of the honorable players , being paid millions to play professional football. The NFL needs to set a standard , they are paying these assholes to play professional football , not to have a hissy fit because they are not starting , because they are a looser & need attention .( thats directed at one POS ) Rant over , but you would be surprised at the life you can have with out sitting in front of a TV & watching a bunch of over paid Jocks run up & down a field & to think I lived Fantasy Football at one time . Fuk the NFL !
  7. I'll have to ask the owner to be sure , but it looked like 11/13 on the Barrel , i'm not familiar with Colt markings ,so don't know if that means anything.
  8. I had a factory Colt Carbine come to me the other day with a Iron sight issue , rear sight ( Magpul MBUS )was all the way to the left for impact on target to be close to center , but not . here is some of what I found & what I did . The front sight tower is just a hair off . I centered the Laser with measurements of the Rail center , as best as I could , Laser was aligned using two measured marks on top of Rail front & back , Laser line can be seen from rail , down the Barrel on top of Gas Tube & up the A2 Sight Tower . I'll post some photo's when I can get them smaller or off my PhotoBucket , which , I haven't figured a way to get the photos on here & not just the link . The front sight tower was off a little & the Gas Tube where it should have been close to center in the Upper Receiver Channel , was way off , to one side . I use a Jewelers Screw Driver for a Gage on both sides of the Gas Tub & it should fit between the Gas Tube & the side of the Channel on both sides , I could not get it even in on the left side looking down into Upper Receiver & could flop it around on the other side , so I knew something was out of center . Disassembled Barrel components & removed the Barrel Nut & all nice & tight with fitment of Barrel in Upper Receiver & Extension Pin was tight & "0" play in it . Surprised how easy all came off , no Rockset or Loctite of any kind , very light grease on Barrel nut threads . Reinstalled Barrel / Nut ,Aligned Gas Tube Passage in Nut & checked alignment of Gas Tube in Upper Receiver Channel , perfect with Taper Pins in Sight tower , just pushed in , after seating Taper Pins , the gap or alignment of Gas Tube in Channel was only slightly off on the same side , but no where near where it was & it would fit in , so after reassembling rifle & setting up the Laser for checking alignment , the Laser was dead center on front sight post , Perfect. I believe the Barrel Nut was not indexed correctly for the Gas Tube to pass through with out putting undo tension on the front sight tower , so when the Taper Pins were seated from the Factory , the torque on the Tower from the misaligned Barrel Nut/ Gas Tube , permitted the Tower to seat or center correctly . Will know more when I test fire it this week , but it won't be because something is out of kilter .
  9. I only use rifle gas systems on 308AR's , 16",18" & 20 " all have had no issues or over gassing , no real need for an Adj. Gas Block , but some here use them & like them . Superlative Arms has an interesting one or two , they make them in many forms , releases the extra unused Gas instead of just cutting it off from the Barrel . http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/gas-system-parts/gas-blocks/ar-15-adjustable-gas-block-750-clamp-on-prod86814.aspx?avs|Style_1=Adjustable I have one of their Piston systems on an AR 15 & it works great .
  10. Family time comes first , nothing like a good mag dump.
  11. What, yours isn't that big , you got cheated , Its why I carry a 45
  12. That was mostly because of Metallurgy, not to mention old worn out Actions This comes up all the time , if you shoot any ammo out of a worn or over cut chamber , its dangerous . A lot of over sea's rifles , surplus , are like that , this is where this comes from . any modern rifle will shoot both ammo types , his assertion that the 308 case fired in a True 7.62x 51 chamber ( his words ) is ruined ( might be if shot from a well worn Chamber ), From almost forty years of shooting & hand loading from both chambers & ammo , I call that BS , period . It may alter the reloading times with soft Brass , Remington Brass come to mind. Just because the 308 is listed by SAAMI spec's that it was tested & approved for the higher pressure , doesn't mean any are loaded to those max spec's . The two Cartridges are the same , same exterior case spec's with a slight thicker web ( internally ) , they are identical , its the Chambers that are slightly different , of course you know that , as you have pointed out . Of course if you have a surplus rifle , re-chambered for the 7.62x51( or a new Barreled ) , I really would not shoot 308 in it & would be worried about 7.62 Nato also . Old is Old & has probably met & surpassed its serviceable life , long ago . The Nato chamber was made to those spec's to have more room in the chamber for a rifle used in battlefield conditions where a chamber will get much more fouling then a hunting rifle will ever see , between cleanings . I ask anyone to show me a set of 7.62x51 Sizing Dies . He may be referring to loading for Match ammo , in that I might agree with him somewhat with the fired cases , but thats a totally different ball game & I would be real picky about my Brass , in many ways . These type articles , just get to me .
  13. Interesting view AMMUNITION, RELOADING 7.62X51 VS. .308 WIN. SEPTEMBER 16, 2016 MIDSOUTH SHOOTERS 1 COMMENT I hope by now that most folks do know there is a difference between 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Either way, I’ll be hitting that topic eventually, and the reason is because it really matters! NATO is loaded to much higher pressure than commercial .223 Rem. There’s up to 15,000 PSI difference. Reason: the NATO has a radically longer leade or throat, more room for expanding propellant gases. If you are a handloader and are loading for a 7.62 NATO chamber, get a cartridge case headspace gage and subtract 0.004 inches from the spent case reading to use as a figure to set your sizing die (case shoulder set-back). Don’t take it down to .308 specs or it’s liable to break next use. Literally break. Here’s a spent case from my SAAMI-.308-Win. chamber (left) next to the same ammo run through a NATO. Whoa. Be aware that some commercial-spec .308 Win. ammo can literally come apart in a true NATO chamber. But, what about 7.62 NATO compared to its civilian equivalent, .308 Winchester? Good question. A little front-loading: There are industry standards for cartridge dimensions and operating pressures. SAAMI — Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturer’s Institute — is a voluntarily-given base of information that defines and delineates our modern centerfire cartridges. Essentially, it’s an agreement among those in our industry to produce cases and cartridges and chambers that fit the specs, and they all agree to the specs. That’s for the U.S.A. SAAMI defines minimum and maximum headspace, for instance, and also chamber pressure maximums. NATO—North Atlantic Treaty Organization—is the outfit that standardized mil-spec ammunition in use by the allies, including U.S. Armed Forces. It has its own set of standards for dimensions and outputs. So. Comparing .308 Winchester and 7.62X51: .308 Win. came first. The two ended up differently… Like the 5.56/.223, the difference between commercial SAAMI-spec .308 Winchester and 7.62 NATO is in the chamber, but it’s in a different place. The difference in these two isn’t the throat, it’s the headspace. NATO is ridiculously longer. Although there are different pressure-testing standards used by NATO and SAAMI, .308 commercial is normally loaded to a higher pressure maximum than mil-spec NATO. It’s safe to shoot NATO rounds in a .308 Win. chamber. The difference comes in shooting a commercial .308 in a NATO chamber. At the least, the commercial case will be stressed, a whopping lot. Numbers? Look for this to know it’s NATO. The cross-in-a-circle stamp identifies it absolutely. Sho. SAAMI-spec headspace for a .308 Win. is a minimum (shortest allowable headspace or “GO” figure) of 1.630 inches, and a “reject” (too long) figure of 1.634. Well, the number given as a minimum for NATO is 1.638. The “reject” on NATO is 1.6455. I’m not at all clear on why anyone thought that was a good idea, but that’s what was done. It is also the reason that NATO cartridge case specs call for considerably thicker-walled brass. It has to endure that much more expansion. It’s a big reason not to purchase “surplus” 7.62 brass for reloading. Well that’s my advice… Cases fired through a true NATO chamber will be patently worthless to anyone owning a .308 Win. They’ll be blown beyond all reasonable repair. A “true” NATO round will have a cross inside a circle stamped into the head. You can’t tell by chambering a round, no difference there. The other influential cartridge (not chamber) dimensions (overall round length, headspace, etc.) are patently the same for either standard. Crazy. The preceding is a specially-adapted excerpt from the new book, “Top Grade Ammo,” by Glen Zediker. It’s soon to be available at BuyZedikerBooks.com or call 662-473-6107. 14. Its insulting !
  15. Ummmm
  16. Empty, if in the safe & Hammer down & I rotate all loaded , cocked & locked firearms on a regular basis . I have no children in the house , so I can do what ever I want with firearms .
  17. First off , its just not only the spring that has pressure on it , both the Trigger & Hammer Sears do so also . Sure , if you have well made FCG , like a Geissele , which are made of superior metallurgy , they will fair far better then a surface Hardened MilSpec FCG , but why subject ant FCG's Sear engaging surfaces to sustained pressure . As far as the springs go , its a subject to ones belief , springs are made to have so many compression cycles , keeping them fully compressed or close to it , may or may not alter that life span . All springs are not made equally , some may wear our or lose their required tension early & some may last longer .
  18. Yes , sorry for your loss .
  19. In that case , we need a full range report Santadee .
  20. Well , you did ! The Barrel is a big part of a any build , It all depends on what you want to do with the rifle . 18" is not a bad choice , I just sold my 18" that had a Hybrid 18" Criterion , S/S Nitrated Barrel , Great shooting Barrel . Of course , my other two 308AR's have Criterion's on them also. 16" is a good choice , mine shoots great , rifle gas S/S . I really don't think you need any longer then that for normal use , Target shooters might need something longer . I have a 20" HB that is a Tac driver.
  21. The Tubb's Flat wire spring will work with a DPMS 308 type Buffer , in this case a 308 Rifle Buffer . Now you might ask these Armalite owners if there is a AR 10 specific 308 Buffer for the Armalite Rifle Receiver Extension , the Tubb's Spring should work with both types of rifles . I just own & work on junk DPMS Rifles
  22. Good job From a Retired Commercial HVAC/R Tech.
  23. Nice stock & great color .
  24. Check this Faxon firearms , just for comparison their 20" rifle length gas , Port size is .093 " http://faxonfirearms.com/20-heavy-fluted-308-win-rifle-length-416-r-stainless-steel-qpq/
