  1. I heard a brief part of a interview this morning & the BATF/E is charging him with manufacturing ammunition with out a license ! WTF I think they said he sold the shooter 720 rd's , but I didn't hear the whole interview or other info , they said he didn't even use any of his ammo in the shooting ( but what about the Fuel Tank shots ) found his name on a box of ammo & a finger print on a Bullet . Something about Tracer ammo , sounds odd , I need to find a transcript or an article about that news segment .
  2. The XM 80C just gages on my LE Wilsons 308 Cartridge Head Space Gage at Max. HS , which is 1.634" ( which is max SAAMI spec for 308 Case HS ), I got that info from LE Wilson yesterday . The Min. on the 308 Gage is 1.629 " . I set my Sizing Die to set the shoulder for a little above then Min. reading on my LE Wilson , which I would say is around 1.630-31" , just above the Min. flat on the Gage .
  3. Well you are kinda young
  4. Ya , we are getting their rejects , there could be many QC processes , including what I read the other day about the loose rounds swept off the floor & packaged for surplus , which shouldn't be an issue , I don' t think . I'm going to cut another one the same way , to see how it looks , I might have found a bad one with the first or there was indeed an issue with the way i cut it , but i was careful not to do anything to disturb the interior of the Bullet . I've just been seating a 155 SMK in the Case , so as not to lose the Primed , Charged Case .
  5. Now why would he do that , we are doing his work for him
  6. I was in the Navy & it looks kinda cool , would I own it , nope ! If its not at least a 444 or 45-70 , its a kids toy
  7. Those were not for the CMP , they are for commercial sale , the importers had a State department clearance for them & O'Buthead & his henchmen put a stop to all imported used military weapons ( assault rifles ) , is my understanding . There were also M1 Carbines involved with the sale also . Some are saying the ones from the Philippines will be in bad shape . Turkey , not sure what shape they would be in . I have one from South Korea , when they came in in the 80's , beautiful Rifles , I was a FFL & got ten of them for $ 179.99 each , because I bought ten or more . I sold them for $ 275.00 each , gone in a week , except the one I kept of course . A Springfield Armory , made in Dec. of 1943 . I have a Photo or will take another .
  8. I cut another apart , this time the one half of the Jacket fell off & no Void or pocket in this one , weight was 145.5 Grains. Probably filled to weight when assembled ( Lead can have different densities ) . It got just as hot or warm as the first one , but used a unreinforced cut off wheel ( went through four of them ) & I used Vice Grips to hold it & the Vice grips were locked in the Vice .
  9. No melting , I took many breaks in doing it , you don't need a lot of rpms to cut through a Bullet . I started at the Base & cut through the jacket on one side & then flipped it over & could see the void when I cut through the Jacket , I didn't have a choice , the Bullet kept dislodging out of the Vice & I had to move it back into the position I needed . I guess some Lead could have popped out , but doubt it . I not sure if its hot poured into a formed Jacket or Swaged into it or some other method . The Void is probably not an accident , I'm cutting another one apart today , because I'm curious . The Bullet lost some weight because of the 1/16" thick reinforced cut off wheel , I have a thinner one to try .
  10. Do you plan on trying for one of the 1911's , I also see that the CMP is getting more Garands from the Philippines & Turkey . 86,000 from the Phillipines & 13,000 from Turkey
  11. Is this the Upper Receiver ? If it is you can have someone make you a Barrel , dont know who , but ask around . https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/upper-receivers/le901-16se-upper-receiver-308-prod82254.aspx?avs|Make~~Model_1=Colt__LE901
  12. They said I won't break the new design we will see , we will see.
  13. When the Primers pierce , they will eat a Firing Pin or heat it up so it bends or deforms ( Hot Gas ). This is not new to them , just about everyone of the Posts here on the early GII have the same issue . DPMS finally took care of it , your not the first , but may have got an early one that was sitting at a distributor or Dealer . I sure hope they are changing the Bolts in the newer ones . A lot of people talk down on DPMS , but they make more 308AR's then most of the other companies put together , so they will have more issues & the GII is still teething , so to speak . I was going to buy my first factory AR of any kind , with the GII , but purchased a M1A instead , I still want one , but that may be a while , I have one more payment on the Socom .
  14. Was sizing 308 today , already sized ,but was setting the Shoulder back a little because it was just a hair above the max case HS & the Handle twisted & broke off , on the back stroke . Had to unscrew the Die to get it out . Called MEC & since I have one of the first ( well second , they already replaced the whole press when new & there is a Thread here in the reloading section ) & they have redesigned the Handle & its attachment point on the press also . They will ship new assembly out tomorrow , it will get here quick , because it did last time , it was here like the next day .
  15. All that I have got over the years had no problem shooting , this was a surprise to me about the Void in the tip , not so much the Void , but how its not uniform . I have some Targets shot & Chrono results from it in at least two different barreled 308AR's & as said it didn't shoot all that bad , wasn't MOA , thats for sure . Glad your feeling good enough to go out & bust some cap's
  16. I didn't weigh it before I cut it , didn't expect what was inside , but I did weigh another one & it was 147.9 gr. ..I will weigh it on my Pact Scale , but doubt it will be much different . Reads 149 gr. Bullet on the Box . I dont think this ammo was made for match , probably meets MilSpec grouping at what ever their specs are & I always thought it was blasting ammo . The one guy on M14.com said the newer Fed. M80 ball gave him the worse scoring out of all the Mil.surplus he tested , thats Bad . He did get good results with other Fed Ball ammo I assume M118 & such .
  17. Well I pulled a Bullet from one of the new XM 80C ( even though I had one already pulled from another batch ) I cut the Bullet in half with a cut off wheel & yes cutting through the Jacket made a lot of sparks . What I was not expecting to find was a void in the Tip of the Bullet that had no Lead in it , now that may be by design , but the issue I see is its not uniform & seemed to be a larger void on one side of the Bullet & Lead reaching higher on one side , closer to the Tip . It may be the way it was made , but that cant be good for Bullet flight or performance down range or grouping . If this is an example of how these end up from manufacturing , I not only will not purchase any more of this ammo , but it makes me wonder what any pulled or surplus Bullets for sale through various sellers are made the same way . with a magnet stuck to the bullet Photos of the void , no Lead melted away , didn't get hot enough it did get hot enough for the Plating to flake off on the tip of the half on the left , exposing the Metal Jacket material Loaded with 44.4 gas. of some kind of Ball Powder with some lighter gray in color balls
  18. Your right ,this topic is not for me , because I can't understand why ,after shooting 308 in your rifle ( which is labeled 7.62x51 ), your asking if its safe to shot it in said rifle , now !
  19. From what I heard this morning , it was the Ammo Dealer who sold him the Ammo , now that opens a can of worms !
  20. I can only imagine the stress on the Lower Receiver by doing that , damn !
  21. Just fitting is not enough , PSA seems not to play well with others in many regards , stick with the PSA Lower Receiver to match the PSA Upper . Be it a complete or stripped , to add your own Lower Parts .
  22. Winchester Silver tip is 308 ammo , not a 7.62x51 NATO designated ammo . Are you asking if its OK to continue to shoot it ? The Case dimensions of both types are the same , the Barrels Chambers are slightly different , with the 7.62x51 Chamber designed to meet military combat conditions , unlike a Rifle that is cleaned after every use . Were you showing the coins in the air making those shots , just kidding
  23. Have you ordered from CMP before ?
  24. Contact ADCO , as above the Barrels Extension needs to be removed & installed on a new Barrel . https://adcofirearms.com/products/gunsmithing/barrel-modificationrepair/
  25. More on others involved , indirectly , so they say . https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/shootings/search-warrant-document-shows-2nd-person-of-interest-after-las-vegas-shooting/
