  1. Today I re-lubed & sized the LC brass that was short ( see my first post ), with my RCBS SB sizer die & all but seven needed trimming & the seven were still short , ranged from 2.003 to 1.999 " & just threw them in the scrap ben. The ones I measured before & after went from 2.004 to 2.012" after sizing , so If brass is sized & trimmed using a SB sizer die , a FL sizer will not bring it back to my spec's for trim to length measurement, have to stay with a SB sizer . I didn't know a SB sizer made that much difference , learn something new ever day.
  2. The WW brass were all constant in feel as far as seating the 175 gr. Nosler Match bullets , just a slight difference in pressure feel compared to the FC brass . I picked out the sizing bushing by measuring a loaded round , per Reddings instructions , but was loaded with LC brass & wonder if the make up of the brass or a slight difference in brass thickness could be why it seemed to have a higher resistance feel while seating the bullet with the LC & FC brass . These two brass cases are about the same weight class compared to the WW. All in all , the Annealing seems to make the brass very consistent in seating pressure from brass to brass manufactures .Of course all you people doing it already knew that . <thumbsup> I used a Lee Factory crimp die on the WW brass & a Taper Crimp on the FC brass . I'm impressed . Now I get to see how my test brass shoots .
  3. Well it seems there are no 1K ranges around me , so finding what these rifles will do at that range is not going to happen, unless I come across something & that's got me thinking about my bullet selection . If I'm not shooting past 600yards( longest in my area , an hour or two away ) , why even work up any more loadings with a 175 gr. bullet . I'm going to continue with 168 gr. bullets if for any reason then I have already got load & target data for this bullet in both rifles & they have much better groupings @ 200 yards . Granted , I have not settled on a good load for the 175's yet & will take some new loads with IMR 4895 , which the Nosler data of 39.5 gr charge reads are the most accurate , we will see . I will be doing some Chrono data this weekend . Damn !
  4. BCG works just fine in my 16" build . Only have a couple hundred rounds with it, but after cleaning it the other day , it still looks like I just took it out of the box.
  5. All those were in gun free zones or should I say countries that you can't own a firearm , so the chances of one being produced is about as good as a LEO being there .
  6. You 'all didn't really think the dead would come to life , did you ? Its always been about the brain dead , not the undead . <dontknow>
  7. Why only take a baker's doz. ? Where was security ? What if anything else was taken ? If only the rifles , I would suspect inside informant also.
  8. Ya , name one <lmao> Just kidding !
  9. And what were they doing in a rail yard ? Were they being shipped to some where or to a Dealer or something ?

  11. Bike looks uncomfortable , seat looks like a glorified " P " pad <dontknow> . Its probably fast & that's appealing to the young crowd . My Ultra classic is so comfortable I have to play the music loud to keep from falling asleep on Cruz control . <laughs>
  12. Makes you wonder how many times that stunt failed before he had it perfected .
  13. If its properly made , your body should give it retention pressure . Nice rig.
  14. If you are talking about the DPMS upper receiver vice block , seems to me you would have to use a lot more torque then spec's for barrel nut attachment to damage an upper receiver or there could be a problem with the metallurgy of the upper receiver. I can't count how many times I have used the block for mounting a barrel on both forged & Billet upper receivers. Is this what is creating all the horror stories ?
  15. I wondered why there was a little time difference in the Annealing of the different brass , well mainly the WW with about 2-3 seconds less then all the others. I always weigh my brass prier to loading ( with primer installed ) & I came up with an average weight of 161.5 gr. for the WW , 171 gr. for the RP( only two ) , 181.8 for the FC & since I had only one LC in the test group , it was 184.4 gr. . I'm thinking the heavier brass was a better heat sink & needed to be heated a little longer then the lighter WW brass., So sorting brass for Annealing is probably a good idea ,if using a timing method . Its why I painted all the test brass with Indicator. I trimmed all the brass . Primed , weighed them & charged the FC brass , & upon seating the 175 Nosler match bullets , they all had the same feel in resistance ( as far as I can tell , not scientific ,but you can tell )in seating the bullets . I will do the WW's tomorrow . We will see how they shoot & Chrono out .
  16. There are some Receiver extensions by some Manufacturers ( Armilite, for one ) that have different lengths, but pretty much an AR 15 & DPMS type 308ARs are the same dimensions, be it a Carbine or rifle length . Interesting Stock .
  17. If I remember correctly, the McFarlands are loose to begin with . Now that measurement you have ,may be for the std type rings . If you take the assembled BCG & flip it from the bolt pointing up to bolt pointing down & the bolt doesn't move , it should be OK . Any movement , there may be a problem . I also have read of some not even using rings & not having problems . ( yet )
  18. Then you would get used to it & hope they exposed more & then there would be nothing to hide any more . <laughs> As far as the under lined quoted sentence of mine , I'm no & never have been in LE , but arriving at a call & every one has a long gun hanging around there necks would , to me , make me real nervous & maybe a little trigger happy & the wrong people could get hurt . Would need some kind of badge or open ID for me to like it . I have carried a rifle doing mundane things & didn't like it, any more than doing the mundane things . I know in a combat zone ,I will sleep with it & keep my boots on .
  19. Think of the deterrent of see a host of people walking around with open carrie , being a long gun or handgun . Some POS looking for an easy mark will be kinda nervous to say the least . I see only one major problem , how do the LE know who is legally permitted to carrie & who's not . You going to stop everyone to ask or identify. How do you know some gang bangers aren't on the war path , walking down the street with AK's , etc. I could see the cry's of racial profiling , just pulling someone off to the side to check . Sure, this should not even be considered in the debate to have open carrie , but it may be a product from it . I don't see a problem with people walking around with a weapon , but it will make a lot of people nervous to see it . I was in the grocery store a couple of weeks ago & noticed a man with a side arm , I walked closer to him & noticed he had a T-shirt on with our County Sheriff Dept.'s name & SWAT in big letters , but no badge showing any where . Now how do I know this individual was legit ? I guess you could say , well he had a SWAT T-shirt on with the local Sheriff's name on it , so he has to be , but how do you really know , except asking him to show his badge .I did not notice any one in the store ,bat an eye , or if they even noticed it . At least with CC , you would not question ,because you don't see anything to be curious or question about or be alarmed at . I think in most cases , a long gun would get in the way of every day activities , IMO . Although I know some places , I wish I could carrie some major equipment . Just read the Thread on ' Lost & Found " , I think its in the Club House section & if people are forgetting all kinds of firearms & Suppressors at the range's , what's going to happen when these same type of people are walking around Wally world & setting there long gun down to try on a coat or something . WOW ! Now there's a thought.
  20. The rail matched up on the SI Defense upper I had on there ( the original build ), but changed the Upper out to a Tactical Machining upper & a complete DPMS lower , I had sitting around .( replaced the early CMMG lower because it would not work with PMags , only steel mags. worked .) This set up works with PMags & Steel mags now , no problem .Plus its shooting much better groups also .Go figure !
  21. Did 27 cases last night ,after the blow torch went out . I did 1-LC , 2 - RP , 9 FC & the rest were WW . The WW being the first cases I used many years ago to test work up loads for the 20" build . There is definitely a difference in time it took for the Indicator to change with the different brass manufacturers , the WW was the least amount of time ( if you can call it that ) 8 sec. on average , the FC ,LC & RP all went into 10-12 sec. to change the Indicator. I marked all of them , just so I could see a change before I grabbed it with the tongs & threw it in the water . Took about ten minutes to do them all , so this is not a time consuming process as I have thought of it would be all these years . I resized them with my Redding bushing type FL sizing die ( they were already sized & de-primed with RCBS SB sizing die ) & will trim & reload them to see how my Annealing feels & see how they shoot .
  22. Interesting , I may have to try that , but I don't have any 1K scopes ether. Damn, learn something new every day around here . Makes me think, I really don't know anything some times . <laughs>
  23. Well if you haven't seen one yet , her's what I got today . Next to a Gen II 20 rd'er Disassembled , not much difference there. Mag in my 16" build , bench shooting will be difficult & I have to try prone with it , just to see , but free hand will work , no problem & I am going to have to do a twenty five rd. mag dump , just to do it .
  24. The handle in the photo is an ambidextrous handle , the release latch on all std . M16/15 /308AR's is on the left side of the handle , looking at it from the stock or shouldered . And they are all ambidextrous as far as which hand you grab it & cycle it , its just what finger or fingers you use to operate the release with. If you use your right hand , its your right hand trigger finger that operates it . If you use your left hand , its usually your middle finger on the left hand that operates it. The left or right hand releasing are just about opposite , right hand - index finger ( releases latch ) & middle finger , left hand _ middle finger( releases latch ) & index finger . Its the way it was designed . If you have a large scope that extends over it , some thing larger is needed . Now the TacOps 1, you can use the index finger & thumb of ether hand to release the latch & operate the charging handle , using your left hand or right hand. The left hand pulls in the latch on the left side of the rifle & the right hand , your thumb pushes or pinches the lever toward the handle to release the latch . Here is the TacOps 308 next to a DPMS 308 handle ( with Badger latch ) This is a photo of the DPMS std Charging handle on top of the TacOps 1 This photo shows the side load wear from using The DPMS std charging handle & not being able to grap on to anything but the Badger latch because of a large scope , the other side shows almost no markings at all. I think the TacOps 1 will help you a bunch.
  25. Whats the purpose of the box shoot ? Excuse my ignorance .
