LR308 Trigger question
survivalshop replied to str8shuutr45's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Now that , I didn't know . I'm going to have to dig mine out to see .I did have it out front for a while now its in the back of the safe. -
Geez ! Makes you wonder what else is going on behind our backs that we don't know of , even conceive of or dream up .

I'm no longer an Annealing virgin , I did a couple today just to see what else I needed to add to the set up . Nothing bolted down , just free standing batt. operated drill ( my wife's no less , she never uses it & its like new )and free standing torch . not bad & pretty fast in changing out the cases. Now all I have to do is make a stand to angle the torch & secure the drill . These are FC cases & I have a bunch of WW cases to do when I get the stand put together , with some kind of adj. for different length case or calibers . As you can see, I put the temperature indicator on all the cases & completely around the cases & I'm glad I did , because I can see the indicator change to liquid as the case turns . Coild be I have the drill speed to fast or too slow or the torch flame is set incorrectly . Will play around with both when its all set up on a stand & secured. What fun !

That's a good question . Kinda a fuzzy area as far as Brakes & Compensators are concerned . Even a Sound Suppressor can also be a Brake/Compensator . There are some Flash Suppressors that say they also Compensate/Brake . Very confusing , to say the least . I am also a PRI fan , the one on my 20" HB works great , but many others out there that also work great . You can tell the difference , by the before & after installation. If you look back , the Cutts Compensator on the Thomson Sub Machine Gun , it has only cuts or elongated ports at the top of the Muzzle device & did a good job at redirecting muzzle blast up to compensate muzzle rise, didn't have to worry about a brake on such a heavy firearm shooting a pistol cartridge . Seems most of todays devices share some of each others traits & do a little of both, brake /compensate. Flash suppression , well that's a loaded term , mostly because they really don't suppress it, just redirect it, so as not to be seen as much from a different visual perspective . That's my take on the subject & I'm sure there are many other opinions .

Yes & don't be shy about lubricating it .

Thermal Dissipator™ When it comes to transferring heat from your barrel, the JP Thermal Dissipator™ far exceeds traditional fluting and is intended for applications where sustained fire with excessive heat buildup is a problem, such as varmint rifles under hours of constant use. Tests show that most heat resulting from sustained fire is developed in a 2- to 3-inch area in front of the chamber causing throat erosion and reduced accuracy over time, not to mention the problem of heat buildup in the hand guard itself that makes handling of the rifle difficult or impossible. Attaching this heat sink between the gas block and receiver will yield unparalleled heat dissipation by increasing the surface area under the hand guard by over 700% and providing more uniform barrel temperature under sustained fire. The JP Thermal Dissipator™ is an anodized, deep-finned 6061 extruded 2-piece sleeve available in black, silver, red or blue, giving a dynamic appearance when installed under a JP high-grade hand guard. A great upgrade for any JP rifle, upper assembly or barrel kit, this part fits any of our current production JP Supermatch barrels and can also be used on any barrel recontoured to .650" or .750" under the hand guard. Maybe some are asking " what do you need it for " in a way to better compare its uses . Some one may have one or used one for a specific purpose & it didn't work out , performance wise , one way or the other . This is not the other Forum.

Was it JP's that had a heat sink under the hand guard ?

308 Charging Handle
survivalshop replied to justinlee83's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
The chagrinning handle on AR's , the way Stoner made them, is truly Ambidextrous. That's why its in the center line of the rifle. I just got another TacOps 1 308 charging handle, the other day. Its for my 16", a little stiff at first, a little work out & it works real nice under the Nikon. -
With a close fitting shroud around the Brake , I would think it would stop being an efficient brake & recoil reducer. Just thinking out loud.

That price is for a complete upper group ,Upper , barrel , BCG & piston system & hand guard, I believe.

Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50
survivalshop replied to seasprite's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
A scope ring lapping kit works wonders on rings for mount to scope fitment & there are a couple that won't break the bank. I have never used any sealant on rings to scope, for fitment . -
Man , I got the temperature indicator today from McMaster Carr , man was that quick . Now I have to build my Annealing station . I have some older WW brass that I used to test loads with the 20" I built many years ago , that I will do test annealing with & checked the primer pockets today , which will be a thread in its self , with photo's, later. . I see some people time the procedure & after establishing a time line on the indicator change for proper annealing temperature , they just time the procedure , for the rest . I may do it that way ,but think I will try doing them with indicator on all of them to make sure I get them all to the some same temp. . They say if you under anneal them , its as if your didn't change a thing , with over annealing , you ruin or waste the brass , so if you use the indicator , all should be with in proper annealing temp. range.

Bullets may give some variances , but I don't get that much COL differences with match bullets . I set a 308 to 2.797" ,just about every one will be in 0.001-2" + or -. And that's with a very , very old Pacific single stage press . I don't know how my Dillon would do , because I make all my precision target & hunting ammo on the single stage. I guess I should try it out . Hunting bullet types , especially ballistic tip bullets , may have higher variance's . You also have to watch for any burr's or dents on the cartridge case base , can cause variances .

Nice looking rifle.

80% DPMS Lower - .308 Flat Top AR Style Build
survivalshop replied to Big Willie's topic in Building a .308AR
Two ways , 1 ,buy the upper receiver you want & match its rail height to the FF hand guard or 2 ,buy the Free float ( FF ) hand guard you want & match the proper real height upper receiver. The manufactures data will tell you what upper receiver rail height there hand guards will fit . I can tell you ,because I have one of each, that the DPMS & Tactical Machining upper receiver rail heights are the same , the DPMS now a days are the lower rail height from what it was a few years ago . I have a Fulton Armory upper receiver & a SI Defense ( Billet ) upper receivers that are the older higher rail height . If you can't find the rail height match through the manufacturers data , you can call , email or just post it here , I'm willing to bet , some one has a build here with one & can tell you . -
Post # 2 has a link to his .

LR 308 front sight and height
survivalshop replied to gnatshooter's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I've done a lot with these AR rifles & can't say I have ever had a problem with an ejection port cover , But its not really needed for a target type rifle. -
80% DPMS Lower - .308 Flat Top AR Style Build
survivalshop replied to Big Willie's topic in Building a .308AR
An 80% lower build , I think I would be more concerned with the proper machining process of finishing off the lower receiver , because its only 80 % done , of course . Something I haven't even wanted to try because of tooling & Machining you need to do it yourself . The upper receiver rail height is not really a concern too much , except if you want to match the hand guard & upper receiver rail heights . I only use matched sets of receivers any more, on builds , because of (on 308 AR's ) there are no MilSpec standards for them from one manufacturer to another like the AR 15 line of receivers . The possibility of Tolerance stacking between the different manufacturers of receivers is always a possibility . I know the popularity of 80 % lowers is growing & very attractive to do for many reasons & if you are going to do a DPMS type , find a DPMS upper type to use (DPMS ,Fulton Armory, TM & several others seem to work ok) . I have both a DPMS older rail height upper receiver on one of mine & a Tactical Machining newer rail height upper on my other 308 AR . Both are on DPMS manufactured lower receivers & have no problems . I did have another unmatched set of receivers( both Billet ) on the 16" bbl. build & had various problems( long story & its on this forum , some where ) , the main one being , it would FTF with the Magpul LR PMags . I switched those out to the present configuration of DPMS lower & TM upper (with out FA ) & she runs like a top with any Mag.. Good luck & have fun , nothing like a new build in a different caliber & of course in our preferred caliber , 308. -
Short for Helicopter . You may be too young to know ,when they were first used extensively , they were called that , maybe in Hollywood /news ? And then to , Chopper "later.

Looked like a mini 14 ,he was firing .Bone heads could have killed someone with there stupidity.

No hope finding the Hornady set up ( at least for even close to the MSR price ) So I ordered the temp stick liquid from McMaster Carr with some thinner , (just in case it hardens up ) for $ 24 & will use a socket case holder . When I get the temp stick i will do some .
