I went through all my .223/5.56 ,300BLK & 308 that was sized & deprimed & cleaned,. decided to try seating some primers in both the passed & those that didn't & you can definitly tell the difference seating the primers in both the .223/5.56 & 300BLK & cut down 5.56 , formed to 300BLK , didn't matter what manufacturer or cal. .The only brass for .308 I have ready are all 308 , no milspec brass, all commercial remington ,WW, FC, the FC at least had some resistance. Definitly another testing to make sure I have no problems with reloads. I just have to set some LC or other milspec 7.62x51 brass to do more testing on the 308's.

MAG-TEC .308 AR 20-ROUND MAGAZINES IN STOCK
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Brownells Coupons, Deals and Codes
The second from the right is the Mag Tec. Right now I can't find the photo's of them broken down ,but I know I have them <I just have a lot to look through. -
Well testing out the new muzzle device I put on the wifes carbine , I had a FTF & it was caused again by a primer popping out . Well, part way out, but enough to have a stopage, unfired no less . Quickly cleared ,but it has been happening to me far to often , well twice with this rifle & the 270 load that one popped out while seating the bullet ( that was a first for me ) Needless to say , all my hand loads are hand primed with a Lee hand primer & some how I'm missing these light seating loads .One to me is too many , since I load all my ammo I find it strange that this is happening to me latly . May be I'm getting old & can't feel them like I used to & missing them or they are just border line & I'm just missing them . So ,I have come up with a solution that I think will work for me & maybe some of you other reloaders. I have an older ( most of my reloading equipment is well past twenty year mark ) RCBS Swaging tool. I'm using the primer pocket uniformer to test the primer pockets for resistance & after testing some that i just sized & cleaned I got about 1/4 that didn't pass my new test . Not that any or all would pop a primer but, with feeling no resistance to inserting the tool , they are put maside for the scrap brass , Range master at the range . He collects brass for recycling for cash for his after school youth shooting class, a good cause I don't mind contributing to. The photos show brass that I can not insert the primer pocket tool into with out resistance & those that do . I only use this tool on really large or heavy crimped pockets . I use my deburring tool to clean most up . The brass to the right or lower part of photo didn't pass.

I knew I would get your attention. >:D

I have built & repaired many , my favorit firearm to build or repair. Pretty much where I started , working on firearms back in the mid 70's . ( I know, I'm in an AR fourm ) As has been said , they take a little more building/gunsmithing ability to do. The trigger, sear ,disconnector & grip safty all take a bit to do correctly . Many years ago you could get kits from Springfield Armory to build , of course all that's long gone .When I was a FFL , I sold many , my Brother still has one .

Thanks Drew. I'm some times lost on PC's , I'm old :binkybaby:

How do you post photos on this new sight ? Or how do you find the URL ? Do I have to use an off sight photo bucket or some thing like that ?

DPMS308 FEEDING PROBLEMS
survivalshop replied to charlie52usaf's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
The scratches on the bullet are from the locking lugs on the barrel extension. Happens every time you unseat a live round from the chamber, you might get some small lines on the bullet from feeding (maybe ), but doubt if they will effect bullet performance. Hell ,look what happens to a bullet when fired from the barrel. Bullet is slapped against them by the extractor pulling the cartrige to the right & up ,to eject it , of course its no longer surposed to have a bullet on the case ,but the rifle doesn't know that . I would not worry about them, as said , try other mag(s) -
Well if any one is looking for some ,Natchez has 20 & 30 rounders in stock for $ 20 ea. , 10 per day max. Per customer . I was thinking of picking up a couple twenty rounders .

DPMS308 FEEDING PROBLEMS
survivalshop replied to charlie52usaf's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Yes I have polished the feed ramps to see if it helped , but made no difference . I don't think there configuration makes much difference except with some bullet types ( short wide olgive) There is a way to tweak mag lips ,but I have found that making sure they are free of imperfections & burr's helps a great deal. You can polish the underside of the feed lips also. Brownells has a tool to manipulate the feed lips of metal mags.,be careful altering them, too wide & you run the risk of double feeds. Try different magazine manufacturers ,some mags just don't work in some lower/upper combo's or factory set ups for that matter. -
What type of hand guard are you going to put on ? Match/sniper type rifle will get the most out of a free float hand guard . Make sure you get the right wrench for the hand guard you are using . Depending on what type , a strap wrench or std nut wrench, will not always work.

Any one try these ? What are your thoughts on them ?

RAS-12 AR-10 Shotgun Upper
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Ya , need one that uses std. Sabo slug rounds & I'll try it out in Ohio. -
The write ups in this mag., with its comparing new offerings of the 300BLK are pretty good , very good reading if you are an owner of this cal. or thinking of buying / building one, you should check this issue out( if can find it ) It talks about mag. Issues with some some rifles . I personally have not had a problem with any mag I have tried , any one else have problems ? Another point they make is problems with subsonic ammo in some manufacturers barrels. I have not tried sub's out of my WC barrel as of yet , because I never intended to put a Can on her. They made comments on every rifle they tested about its lack of Can attachment . There winner was SpikesTacticals Compressor , which is a suppressed SBR right out of the box , unlike the others in the shoot out . Nice rifle though , but stacked the deck , compared to the others.

I have the Fulton's 20" HB on one of my AR308's & it's a shooter for sure , on the heavy side . My 16" with rifle length gas system works fine. Mine are both 1-10 twist

MAG-TEC .308 AR 20-ROUND MAGAZINES IN STOCK
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Brownells Coupons, Deals and Codes
I had some photos here some where , where I had all the popular mags for 308's disassembled & compared . The Mag Tec was one of them. I'll see if I can post them again ,because the follows are not all the same of course. The PMag has the largest follower & longest spring , by far . -
Even if you are a high volume loader, a good single stage press is all ya need , just takes longer . I use mine for my precision loading , even though I have a Dillion . A good starter press & you can alway go to a progressive later.

The newest book of AR 15 is a 300 blackout edition. Has a bunch of manufacturers offerings of rifles & uppers in the 300 Blackout. The editor starts off with what this caliber won' t do & it's limitations . They tested one rifle /scope combo ( Nemo ,Tango 6 ) they tested out to 800 yards with Honady's 110 gr. VMax ammo . I have a lot of reading to do & if your interested in this platform , this magazine is a good place to get some info.

If you BCG is being locked back properly when the rifle is charged with an empty mag ., its working . I would check other things , as has been said , buffer , spring to proper specs , improperly gassed .
-
I use it for hunting loads in 30'06,270,308 , never used it on .223 , works real well .
