New rifle break-in? What is the correct way?
survivalshop replied to Trapdoor1868's topic in Building a .308AR
Depends on the barrel . A match barrel should be hand lapped to clean up imperfections left behind by making the lands & groves , so it should not need any thing but shooting . Sure others will come up with there own book on how to break in a barrel or rifle , but I just shoot & clean mine . Now if ya have a std. or chrome lined Barrel , some use the break in bullets or ammo & you can follow the shoot one round & clean method. -

survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Brownells Coupons, Deals and Codes
Yep & one of the reviews was mine , but the mags works , after some tuning . -
I see Fulton has a 16" light weight barrel , chrome lined , rifle length gas system back for sale & in stock , when I looked . $374

I like my 300 blackout & I was liking the idea of a 6.8 , may build an upper just for it .

Built new AR-10, light-weight ammo returns poor results

I also have a CMMG lower with a SI Defence upper & it's an older CMMG lower. This lower will not reliably function with the PMag. Same as you have described , bolt over &failing to strip & feed the next round. My rifle functions flawlessly with CProducts or DPMS mags. I also have the POF roller cam pin & it works fine. As far as your groups , break the barrel & rifle in with good ammo & they should get better . A good trigger will also help. -
You will not need the castle nut or end plate with a rifle stock receiver extension system . They are for a collapsible stock system.with a rifle stock system , ya just screw on the receiver extension on the lower receiver & you will also need a spacer for an A2 stock.

I put a set of the carbine size on a rifle for a buddy & didn't have a problem . It had a std front sight on the barrel & I just replaced the Std carbine hanguards & tightened the bolts . He was very happy with them & I thought they worked well.

Loved it , I plan of taking her out more often. I was at another range last week shooting 200 yds. & had to wait for a group or club that were shooting M1's, 03's & AR's , timed match & that grabbed my interest .

Since this subject started , I purchased a Lee factory crimp die for both .223 & .308 & I kinda like them , testing as far as velocity & grouping is on going .
-
Or just buy the Geissele & purchase the small parts separately to Finnish the LPG . It's what I do now a days . I also like the Spikes NIB group & the APG trigger group by Mrs. Geissele .

The bolt & parts are different as said , the difference being a spring loaded firing pin .

I got an email from Wilson Combat & they are in also . I will see if I still have the email to post it

All I got to say is , this is one nice rifle . I'm not much of a bolt gun guy & it may be my age , but this is rifle a sweet shooter & 98, I shot my 1903A3 for the first time & that was also a treat .

Plus the fact that these ban morons ,don't care about facts, law or the Constitution , they just want to disarm us to have complete control of us , nothing more . They have done it all over the world & we are the last of a breed in this good old USA !

It was once fired RP brass , in all my years of reloading , I never had one pop out seating a bullet , just strange is all.
-
It's hard to find components to roll your own now also.
-
They look like they need some tweaking to fit in my Mac 10 <thumbsup>

That's a big dog !

I was loading once fired RP 270 brass last night & one of the primers popped out when seating the bullet & I pushed it back in with my finger WTF. I seat all primers with a Lee hand priming tool & didn't feel an easy one .Completely destroyed the Hornady GMX bullet taking it out , saved the powder(IMR 4064 ) & primer. Just never had that happen before( & not a compressed load) .

DPMS Receiver Heights
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Since I just installed another JP hand guard on an AR 15 , the instructions read if you mate the hand guard as I did on my SI defense 308 upper , meaning tight fit to the upper , "that under sustained rapid fire , there will be a derogation of accuracy , in there testing. " The one I just installed is close ,but there is a very slight gap between them. I also can't say my 308 has any accuracy problems under sustains fire ,because it has only MBUS on it since day one , but to me , shoots fine . I will post a photo of the newest install when I get on my PC to pull one up. If they haven't changed , the SI defense uppers rails are the org. DPMS height . If you haven't got a rail for the JP hand guard yet , be prepared for sticker shock , because the rails a propitiatory to there hand guards & they must really like them, but they fit good , that's for sure . -

This is more than about guns , its an attack on the Constitution , no matter what Amendment. You don't see any of the propaganda machine saying we should get rid of the first amendment , but it would go, if the 2nd. was gone , as would all the others. This is a movement that has been going on for as long as I can remember , they always said , this country can not be over ran from the out side , we are too strong militarily ( not to mention the largest standing civilian army/militia in the world ), we can only be taken over from with in & that's is what is truly going on . These people need to change that to change our society to a more socialist one like Europe & they can not do it, with out gutting the Constitution ! This is not about LE or what they can get, that non LE can't . What they have done is , divide to concur & they have done a fine job of it over the years . We need to revamp our voting laws so people can't vote six times & get away with it or have an absentee ballet if they are not really absent or not alive any more . This is the most corrupt administration that I have ever seen in my life, including the elections . I'm beginning to think they are all in this together & just taking turns raping us, the tax payers. The true villains here are not LE , its our politicians ! We need to stand up & be counted , stop saying your vote doesn't count , it does & we need to get the millions out there who don't vote to get out there & make there voice be heard ! I feel so much better now <thumbsup>

The barrel/rifle shoots real good, even with just the Vortex red dot scope on there . The scope surprised me how well it would group at 30 yrds. My normal function test failed after the first five rounds, not because of the rifle , but because one of my hand loads. I had a primer blow out & the fifth rd. failed to completely chamber, after dropping the mag & clearing the rd. , the spent primer dropped out with it . The next five mags ( I was using 20 rounders this test, I normally use four 30's ), dumped as fast as I could change them & all is well. I also did do some thing different this time also & that was, sight in the Vortex before my normal mag dump function test.

I stopped watching about half way through the vid. . His comments may be legit , but all the damage to the receiver & barrel could have happened in shipping. The constant whining turned me off, I could be wrong & the Smith's at Remington could be a little in the dark about the lever action , but I doubt it. The extra dove tail in the bottom of the barrel could be because they don't make the barrel he had on there originally. & if it shot good , why whine so much. And as far as all the workers from the original plant being fired , well he did hear it on the Net!

Bought a new bolt action rifle today ,not familiar with the Mossburg line , but this is a pretty neet 308 . 20" Fluted barrel , adj. trigger & syn. Stock . Will take photos at the range . I put a 2.5x 10 x42 Nikon Monarch glass on her . Can't wait to try her out , this is the second bolt action I have ever owned , the other being my 1903a3 , which I have owned for over thirty years & still have not shot , but will with this one ,cool.
