  1. See ,that didn't hurt, did it ? As far as I'm concerned ,we want input from all here , as long as your not insulting , alls good . I like to hear what others think , its another way to learn .
  2. More manufacturers making 308's can only be good for us.
  3. Yes it does sound familiar. The polygonal rifling is the same, I believe, some Marlin lever action rifles have, if memory serves me ,which is asking a lot now a days. You should be able to do a Goggle search & come up with some thing on the rifling type.
  4. My bbl.vice blocks have two sizes on them. The above is right about installing & removing muzzle devices . I will take measurements of the receiver block for ya tonight when I get home . Unless some beats me to it & mine is white.
  5. I have milspec ammo that's thirty years old & works just fine , so rotating it is up to you . The powder/primers you keep may be up to the laws of your state or local fire dept. & or insurance co. that insures your house/living quarters. My bug out bag is a back pack I also use for hunting ,so I'm quite familiar with it . I have one for the wife & we will have share if the kid is home from school . I have the old type web gear ("H" harness )fully loaded with 308 mags/45 acp & the wife has one of those new assult vests set up the same way but with 5.56 & 9mm. I can tell you this , it will get worse, but hopefully not . Food/water & daily necessities are far more important then how much EXTRA ammo you have . You noticed I said extra ,& you can only carrie so much & try to stash more .
  6. Depends on who's bbl. you buy & what spec it is or you want . I know Fulton Armory's are all rifle length . I have seen 18" bbl's in rifle ,mid, & carbine lengths . You can have one made any way you want . Just contact the bbl. manufacturer of your choice.
  7. I got some time before I had to go to work today to cut, form & load some dummy test rounds for function testing. I have about four or five .30 bullet types laying around , so I chose a Hornady 150 gr. sp & a Speer 130 gr. bullets. I cut the top off the 5.56 brass with my Dremel tool with a reinforced cut off wheel & deburred cases before I formed them. They are a little long & will use my trimmer to trim them down to about 1.360" , to start out with . I will chamber them to see how they work . I will adj. as needed. The bullet on the left is the 150 Hornady & the right one is a 130 gr.,Speer Varmint bullet ( I shot a seven point buck in West Virginia with a M1 Garrand with this bullet & can tell ya ,it was devastating .)
  8. Got a chance to look over the new 300 BLK die set form Forster . They are there Bench rest die set & am quit impressed with the looks & quality of them (my first die set from them ) The way they have the seating die set up is unique , its spring loaded to keep the bullet &case aliened together through the seating process . Reads non-crimping die , which is not a problem ,I taper crimp all mt auto feed reloads . My .30 taper crimp die should work with out a problem. I will post a write up on my first experience in forming a case & its reloading . Can't wait. This is the largest die box I have now. die set The seat die disassembled & showing spring & internal seating parts. Of course the sizing die .
  9. Bipod on hand guard rail if you can . Free float hand guard is best for accuracy. The gas block is up to you . Thing is, make sure you get BUIS that match where you are using them . Gas block mounted or rail mounted , they are different heights .
  10. My 300BLK dies came in yesterday . I will post some photo's & observations in the reloading section . I'm very impressed with the Foster dies . My other parts shipped from Brownells .So now I have to cut down some brass this weekend & form some . I have been collecting reloading data from around & really not much published yet . I plan on a bullet around 130 gr. , for it seems to have the best BC . I see some are using 125 gr. bullets & pushing them well past the 2K fps . What kind of grouping were you getting with the 300BLK & of course how did your 308 shoot . The first time shooting a rifle is truly a kick.
  11. UMMM , if I wanted a hammer ,I would buy one . No doubt the US optics is a good scope & would take a beating , but I find testing like that to be more of a "Jackass the movie "type stuff . And just how much does that scope weigh ? That is, a funny reticle on that CS scope , But than again , they thought the Mildot was odd when it first came out . Just can't grasp the CS idea though. That's one busy reticle .
  12. What do you mean by play ,in the safety selector lever ? Your std trigger assembly may have been a tighter fit on top of your lever . I have seen some people have to fit the triggers of std. AR's to get the safety selector to work properly . The Timney is a completely different set up & you may have lost some interference fitment . I have had some that are tight fitting & some that are on the loose side . As long as the lever is locking in the detents for the two positions (I assume we are talking semi auto rifles ) There should not be a problem . You can check for proper spring travel & make sure there is not a burr interfering with the detents upward travel . I have also seen a lot of these safeties that are machined sloppy . (too big of holes for detent or too deep )
  13. When I first started reloading for the AR 15 , I over crimped a few rounds & pushed the shoulder back enough to cause those rounds to not completely chamber & I used the forward assist to seat them . Of course ,once I found out why I was having problems , I used to hand feel the crimp on all reloads till I got a Taper crimp die & have not had to use the FA since ,in any of my AR's or the M16's I used to own . ( that was back in the seventies ) As said above ,its good to have & not use than need & not have. I have one of my AR 308's that has it & the other doesn't & haven't needed it yet in ether one . I still go through the drill of hitting the FA when I've chambered the first round on the ones that do have it ( habit I guess ) .
  14. You are correct ! I was going to work & didn't write what I wanted to or put it the way I wanted to . I fixed the post so as not to cause any harm with incorrect info . It was submitted by Fairchild Amilite corp. as the AR(Armilite rifle ) 15 to the military . Colt bought the rights in 1959 & kept the AR for some reason . Most of the people I used to shoot with did not care for the little 22"s, 30 cal was what we shot. .45's & 44 mag.'s not too many 38's . For one ,the .30 cal. will reach out there & have enough behind it to do some thing . Even if there is slight cover or concealment.
  15. I remember when the AR 10 first came out (not the org. ones ,but back in the seventies or early eighties )& it didn't make it because it broke a lot & had feeding problems. The metalurgy & materials have come a long way since then & I guess we can thank the new Armilite corp. for most of that . Keeping the intrest so to speak. I have had the list of 308 auto rifles ,including a select fire FNHB ,which I sold because of a bunch of reasons ,but don't really miss it .$$ to feed it was one The present form of AR 308 rifles are new breed of AR 10's , as reliable as there little brothers ,now . Armilite owns the designation AR10 & they will take you to court for using AR . The military doesn't use manufacturers names , even though we do .M 16, M14 ,M1,1903, 1903A3, 1919A4, although we think of it as the BAR, browning automatic rifle ,its true designation is M 1918 ,the list goes on.
  16. I don't use mine & have it off . Not a good placement of rifle in the photos. With it missing ,the upper looks smoother . I would like to eventually find some thing I can use on the rail. If you take yours off ,imschur ,notice those are custom screws holding it on , don't lose them.
  17. Ya , I order some much for reloading & now the 300BLK I'm building ,I would get finger cramps here .
  18. I'm jealous, I want to shoot the cal. myself . I'm sure ,you will give a full report . They shipped my dies today ,so they were good to there word. I ordered the Troy battle rail in Mid. length. Also ordered the gas block (Vltor low pro ), gas tube ,Fail Zero charging handle and some of the stuff for the stock ,that I don't know what collapsible I'm getting yet. I ordered a Milspec extension ,ambidextrous adapter plate & extention nut . Hay, Brownells has no shipping cost on a &150.00 order , for March 4-6. I couldn't help myself saving 12 bucks ,so I ordered it a week ahead of schedule . It was the dies shipping & put me into a frenzy. I have more than enough once fired brass to cut down to form . The powder & bullets are some thing else I have to look into . And my head space gages are still two weeks out .Damn.
  19. I think my block is Made by DPMS . I will have to look at the box its in & I will send it to you if you need it .
  20. This just keepssss getting better . Florida will welcome you"all. We like guns & the trigger nut behind them !
  21. If you wait long enough , as said, maybe others will be making dies, like Redding . I would much prefer having brass already made or once fired brass to reload . This also is my first in going about reloading in this way. Once brass is available, the forming of it will go away for most ,but for now , its the only way to go, to roll your own . When I get my dies ,it will begin & I can't wait. My head space gages are about two weeks out ,they have to make them . They only had "field" in stock .I wanted a complete set , as I have for all the other calibers I have . This will be a great hunting rifle for ya . I love the 308 ,of course , but this rifle ,I'm making for a different purpose . Hunting may be one , got plenty of hogs here in Florida ,so it may get a try out . I'm not much on pork ,but the meat would not go to waste . The bullets available in .30 cal. is just astounding , as we know with our 308's . Ones we would not use normally in the AR 308's can be used in the 300BLK with great results . This is the first non NATO cal. for the AR platform , that has caught my interest. It will take off & maybe not in a military contract . It has a lot going for it . If the guy who first came out with the 300Whisper had not kept it to himself , things might have come out different a lot earlyer.
  22. I assume , they are referring to free float hand guards made for Armilite or are they referring to the two piece type . I see no way of attaching the delta ring to the nut ,unless I'm missing something on how Armilite attaches it . I also see the nut has flats for a different type wrench or I guess you can use a open or box type wrench , ummm.
  23. Are you saying the pins on the block are loose in the the holes in the upper ? What brand upper are you using ? My holes in my DPMS upper are much smaller than your readings . I'm getting any where from 0.252" to 0.262" , depending on how much pressure I put on the digital caliper. If your pins in the block are 0.250" ,they are correct. A little side play in the block to upper should not matter as long as the pins are some what tight in the upper receiver holes. The block is made to fit a wide verity of uppers & may not be a tight fit to all . The block should just keep the upper receiver from twisting when tightening barrel nut . Some don't like the block because they say it puts too much stress on the uppers pin holes. I have not had a bad Brownells part or tool . Was this block new in the wrapper ?
  24. You mean to tell me , you can't even have ammo ,with out a firearm & get arrested ? That's asinine !
