I'm getting dents in my case necks during ejection?
survivalshop replied to TacBlade's topic in General Discussion
I'm not that familiar with the Galil, but if it doesn't have a brass deflector ,It sounds like the case is hitting the back side of the ejection port . Which could mean the extractor may be holding on to the case too long . Look for burrs on the extractor. I'm not sure what type of ejector the Galil has , if its fixed , to the receiver , it could be damaged or in need of some restructuring . If its in the bolt face ,could be weak spring or sticking ejector button . One thing you have to remember ,they do not make military rifles so that you can reload the brass. Its nice to get them in some shape good enough to reload ,but the design is to get rid of that fired one & put a new one in its place for the next shot . Its no matter to the manufacturers if it dents it or not ,just get it out of there. -
DPMS 308 SASS Barrel and Gas Block Issue
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I think they lowered the one on the newer DPMS upper receiver & the hand guard rail should be higher than the receiver rail. Did you put the lower rail height on the VTac? They make two Heights .1/4 & 3/8 ,I believe. I got my rail for my VTac from Brownells. -

I see nothing to worry about . They look normal to me . Some rifles do it & some don't . You will also have no problem reloading them & if you don't want them , send them to me <thumbsup> If you are looking for a reason why they are doing it now , the rifle is breaking in & loosening up . -
I just ordered some from Brownells also. Both 5.56 & 308.

Looks like the mag release button is not screwed in far enough on the mag release in the photo. Which would not let it grab the mag slot or insert it with enough pressure to hold the mag in . If ya want more pressure on the mag slot on the mag ,use some thing to push the button in as far as you can push it & you will have to thread the mag catch into the button more ,but its a trial & error type of thing ,too much & the mag won't release & too little & the mag can fall out . Or is that the way this bullet button thingy is supposed to be ?
-
Yes , a bullet of some sort in there vitals ,does make for a better day.
-
I also have its big brother , the Anaconda , scoped for hunting ,44 mag..
-
I have a SI Defence upper on my 16" build & its a very nice piece of work . I took the side rail off ,because I have not found a use for it yet , but nicely done billet upper .
-
If the bullet button makes the mag integral to the lower . I would look there as far as the mag releasing .Which could be part of or the problem with the FTF also. I really don't know too much about the bullet button . Yes, we need photo's .

You might find some may want to swap out uppers receivers with you or you may find a good intrest if you want to sell your older standard DPMS upper. Not sure which is less expensive ,changing hand guards or upper receivers .Definitely changing hand guards is the easier way to go, as far as what has to be done . You have a larger selection of hand guards that fit the old std. uppers . -
Speedlock Systems - "CWS" Carrier Weight System
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Accurizing the .308AR
I have one of the CS flat springs.( no weights ) I'm going to try in my 16" . I got pissed that the Fed. mil spec ammo did not work in her. I am going to make a comparison of the velocities between the two springs (DPMS 308 carbine & CS flat for AR 10) , going to change them at the range this week. Get to try my new Christmas present from the wife ,a Chronograph. I tumbled ammo , to clean it up . Will see if there spring makes a difference. -
how wet, how long?

I use CLP & pull the BCG out. I have a pump spray bottle , just spray the BCG till dripping & wait a moment , give it a fling (in a direction you don't mind getting oil at ) & insert the BCG back into the upper . Than a little spray on the FCG and you are GTG. I will put small amount of Mil Spec grease on the lugs of the bolt ,most of the time ,but not always . I believe Rem oil is CLP. I do clean my firearms after every range session. Just keep oil from the chamber. -
Yes , they are among us ! I would take a bet , they vote democrate .

308 Buffer damage

How does your pivot & disassemble pins fit ? That other thread had some ways to over come the problem & I think one was a plug or some thing for the Bolt carrier. I would make sure there is no slop in the pins .Some sort of bushing may be needed if they are sloppy in the holes . When we used to use the Colt lowers ( or uppers ?), we needed an off set pin to adj. the slop . I'm sure they still make them some where , but not sure they would help with your case. -
Well , I had none until I picked up some Fed. XM80C , & it is short stroking in my 16" , have not tried this ammo in the 20" yet , but will on Friday. The 16" has cycled every thing I have put to it till this ammo . One thing is ,this ammo is a little dirty , which may be all that's wrong . This is a match barrel & might not like the dirty ammo because of tolerances. I am going to tumble some , to clean it up ,to see if it makes a difference.

I'm sure it could be made & you can use the dimensions of your 308 upper to make one .If you know a good machinist or are one, it would not be that hard. I really have never came across a bad flange face on a upper receiver . They could be out there , though, because of all the mass production uppers that were made during the last couple of years. They are machined & should be square to mate with the barrel extension flange & should not need any facing . I mostly look for any coating from the Finnish that's put on the receiver & yes I do a very slight lapping to make sure the extension flange fits flush. I'm just not totally sure its needed in most cases.

fitment issues.

I have one on my CMMG lower , but you might find the DPMS may be different . -
Yes some gas piston designs have replaceable " rings " for sealing , but they all reciprocate. The bolt doesn't move until its UNLOCKED by the rear ward movement of the BC . That bolt being locked in place until gas pressure is built up in side the BC to move it ,makes it an unlikely candidate as a piston .

.308 AR Bolt Carriers and Bolt Carrier Groups
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in .308AR Parts
Fail zero technology is a good thing & that, I'm sure took the price up ,probably $100 , so if you took that off ,it would be around the price of a DPMS. I can still almost get two DPMS BCG's for that price & I like SI Defence products . If I build a another AR308, I would use there upper & lower & I would have to use there BCG. Who knows the price may come down after a while & we all don't need FZ tech. in out rifles, they may offer it with out it ,ya never know . This may be good for military contracts. S/S BCG , now that's also interesting . Just wish I had a lot of $$ to throw around for testing . I have two AR's I'm building now (not 308's ) & will keep me occupied for the better part of this year. -
The gas rings on the BOLT are just a seal for gas's building up in the chamber. The bolt doesn't move until the bolt carrier is forced back far enough until the cam pin is moved out of its locking position to release (turn ) the bolt from the locking lugs. I see the bolt carrier as more of a valve than a piston . Just because it moves & gas pressure is put to it , does not necessarily make it a piston. You can argue it both ways & you can agree one way or the other ,but one fact that can not be disputed , Mr. Stoner came up with a revolutionary system to work the action of a firearm & really can not be compared to any thing before it .
-
Well , I read that twice & still don't see how you can call Stoner's design an internal piston . If you look up in a dictionary, it will tell you a "piston " is connected to a rod of some sort & in a cylinder. The way the system of "Direct impingement " works is a pocket in the BC is filled with gas until it reaches a certain pressure enough to unlock the bolt & force the assembly back . I do see a piston in the external design , as in , a piston, surrounded by a cylinder , attached to a rod of some sort & exerting the force of the gas at the piston rear ward to disengage the BCG. I see no piston surrounded by a cylinder, connected to any kind of rod in the DI system . It IS a collection of gas in a pocket . Now I know I should not be speaking up dispelling or disagreeing a fact or facts by a Major manufacturer of firearms , but mechanically ,I don't see it .

AP4 iron sighting problems

the last statement from them is laughable : No DPMS , its not that there is no industry standard , its you, who changed your rail height differently from industry standard ! -
AP4 iron sighting problems
survivalshop replied to yodamer's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I think the newer rail height of the DPMS uppers is lower than the std. railed upper . In your photo ,the rail of the hand guard looks lower. Is it just me ? Who made the FF hand guard? This could be ,if , you have a older std. upper & put a newer DPMS FF rail on , that matches the new rail height . You can solve it by using the DPMS BUIS system .They should match up . The railed gas block, front sight & rear sight. Take measurements as stated below & you will know what receiver you have . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Info straight from DPMS: Our AR15 receivers are all the same height except the High Rider and Tri-Mount. The LR308 Platform has two heights, the A3 and Lo-Pro Raised Rail. The A3 was changed recently to better accommodate our other components. I guess in reality, with the number sold before the change, there are now 3 heights. To find out if you have a newer model or older run, the easiest way to measure is with a caliper from the bottom surface that mates to the lower to the top of the rail. The new versions measure 2.003 and the old versions are 2.063. Any larger receiver rail to handguard rail height difference would be due to the lack of an industry standard in the large frame AR style rifles. Everybody is still pretty much making their own thing and some measurements just don't line up between manufacturers -
AP4 iron sighting problems
survivalshop replied to yodamer's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Ya , see if can barrow some ones BUIS front sight & put it on the rail & try that . I would just get a railed gas block & same manufactures BUIS(one that's made for a railed gas block) & it should work out . Barrow one first ,to make sure there is not something else wrong with the rifle. Actually , this is a common problem when the wrong sights are mix matched . As said M4 flat top upper & std. front sight off and A2 .
