Obama To Push Gun Control
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
It was only a matter of time before his supporters demand him to do some thing . He has paid off a lot of his other backers already , who helped him get into office. Now it is time for him to coddle the anti's . Just think how it will be if he gets another term . One bright point is he and his puppet masters have really screwed things up & most people ,even the ones that voted for this A$$ clown , are now PO'ed at him & the Socialist movement . -
I just got a type S full length sizing die for a bullet configuration that just doesn't like to stay put in the case ,causing feeding problems . You can get different size neck sizing bushings for it so you can size the neck for better bullet retention . So far its working great . I can not push the bullets into the case , which was the problem to begin with. I purchased the coated bushing for ease of sizing , which was more expensive ( $19 vs $13 ) . I would recommend this type die to any one having problems with some manufacturers cases that just don't have enough bullet retention . The bullet I'm using is a solid copper 169 HPBT & its is a tad smaller than .308 in dia . Its .3075 & a std. neck sizer will not hold it in ,even with expander ball removed. The bullet shoots just great out of my 20""HB & I have about a 1K of them so I have to find a way to use them . That is, if it ever stops raining long enough to go to the range. I also have about 2K of a 55 gr. bullet with the same problem for the AR15s. Hay ,I got them for free.

I'll be looking forward to that info. When I first started looking at barrel for the 300blk, I read most of them are 1-8 twist & kinda wondered why . I would think they would be the same twists as a 30 cal . barrel . This is what they emailed me back; Mike, Anything slower tends to not stabilize 220gr and heavier subsonic rounds as well. Not only 1:8 stabilize longer bullets such as the 220 and even 240's it still has great accuracy all the way down to the 110gr bullets. We tested up to 1:12". 1:10" did great with all of the light and midweight bullets, but just wouldn't stabilize the longer, heavier bullets. Also, Accuracy was quite good (sub MOA) with 125gr, even some 110gr bullets in the 1:8" barrels that it made it a good all around choice for the blackout. If I were never going to shoot anything heavier than 150gr, I would probably go with a 1:9 or 1:10", but I like the versatility, and the 1:8" shoot better than I do so it works out well.

Bolt Catch
survivalshop replied to survivalshop's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Thanks . It seems some CMMG 308 lowers are not to proper spec's . If they were, I or we would not have to do any kind of special fitting. I do not think I will ever buy any Major part from a manufacturer that makes uppers or lowers & doesn't make complete rifles as was the case of early CMMG 308 lowers. Hay , Doc , are you reading this . -
I answered a thread on another forum , because of a problem with a CMMG bolt catch . I also have had the same problem as the poster & finally got time to play with repairing it . The problem is not holding the bolt back on last round consistently or not at all ,even though the rifle functions properly as far as feeding & ejecting . Using both a 308 or a std M15/16 Bolt catch doesn't make a difference, still no hold back. Also the catch when manually operated will not hold it for a second ,if that . With a empty mag in the rifle ,it is not much better. I started by comparing the lift that each mag (different manufacturers ) produced on the catch with an unaltered DPMS lower that's on my 20" rifle ,because it has worked flawlessly. I than, of course, measured the CMMG lower to compare . Measurements were taken with a DPMS 308 Bolt Catches. I than took material off the stop area of the Bolt catch ( where the spring buffer comes in contact )to match the height of the DPMS lowers Bolt Catch. DPMS (unaltered)--CMMG (before)--CMMG(alt) PMAG--0.449" -----0.424" --------- 0.4665" Cprod.-0.399" ----- 0.378" ---------- 0.4015" DPMS--0.456" ----- 0.431" ---------- 0.4750 It looks like there is not much difference ,but it made a big difference in function. The catch even holds after mag has been released & works manually & holds . I will take the CMMG to the range tomarrow to test some new loads with the Chrono . The 308 BC & AR 15/16 catch. Material already removed A AR15/16 catch & 308 catch side by side . And the Bolt catch blued with Brownells 44/40.

What cold ? I have shorts on & the windows are open @ 0830 . If it doesn't rain too hard ,I 'll ride the Harley to work as usual. <thumbsup> Such is life in the SunShine State.

Just be mindfull of gas block diameters or gas block to barrel diameters, .750", .836 " ,.936 " and so forth.

I have seen the Noveske barrels & they are nice , but the price & barrel configurations are not what I'm looking for . Nice barrels ,that's for sure. I like the Wilson Combat barrels so far.

Why shorter barrels may often be better - Article
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in Accurizing the .308AR
I just did a comparison with my 16" & my 20" with regards to velocity with my new Chronograph. There is not much diff. at muzzle (10') 16" BBL. avg. FPS w/XM80C/149 gr. bullet- 2676 fps 20" BBL. avg. FPS w/XM80C/149 gr. bullet - 2781 fps Diff. --105 fps 16" BBL. avg. FPS w/ 172 gr. bullet, handloads 2362 fps 20" BBL. avg. FPS w/172 gr. bullet ,handloads 2484 fps. Diff. --122 fps Now I know I can boost my handloads up a bit & I have different bullets to try also & new LC brass (well once fired ) I know once I boost the charge of my hand loads ,the vol. spread difference will decrease. -
Here's a new manufacturer to the 300BK seen. I'm impressed. They also have complete uppers ,kinda $$$ though. http://shopwilsoncombat.com/300-AAC-Blackout/products/397/

Now that's a good write up . I saved it for all the future reloaders I come across.

Probably just extra coating from the receiver finish application . -

I think most are using the 175's for really long range work . -
Barrel Extension Source
survivalshop replied to wayneeh's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
Yes ,Fulton Armory (probably DPMS ), also DPMS sells them & SI Defence makes them in S/S also . As far a s a dimensional drawing , ya got me there . -
It looks like it reads "Caliber Multi " on the side . I was told the BATFE was going to put a stop to that because the serial number info has to be caliber specific.

SI Defense Generation II Stripped Upper Images
survivalshop replied to imschur's topic in SI Defense
I would be jealous , but I already have one . I want to see the SID. lower , when you get it . -
I'm also building one using a Multical, POF lower . Just have not picked a barrel out yet , the rest is just AR15/16 stuff. This cartridge will probably be used by special ops. I don't see it being a NATO front line cambering ,but this is the first wild cat cartridge for the AR that I have seen ,that makes sense. I also will,be reloading for it & can't wait to make up load for it .I like the lighter weight 308 bullets for it .
-
The Electronic scale is a good feature, but I still use both . Just to make sure the load I'm making up is on the money ,its like a second opinion. Yes , the Lock -N- load die set up is quicker to change dies , but have heard of problems with them breaking . Some thing they may have cleared up by now.
-
Nice score !
-
All ya need is a bench to bolt it to & Dies , primers, powder , & bullets and your on your way. Get several reloading manuals & read them if you have never done this before , But the kit looks like its all you need to start. And you have "US " for any questions you have .
