  1. 1-1.5 # pull for a hunting rifle ? That could be a little dangerous , JMO .
  2. Target with shot numbers , #3 shot group was shot at two different aiming points because I didn't see where they were hitting on the first two shots at the top left small diamond , so I moved to the bottom left , just so I could see where they were hitting . The first shot group was just to see where the impact would be & # 2 shot group was after I made some elevation adj. to move it more to center . My target Velocity is around 2700 fps , of course that will change depending on how the charges shoot . Seems the WC 846 has potential with the 2557 fps , if the readings are correct , too bad I only have a small amount left , will look for something close to it , BLC2 comes to mind . All in all , at least the rifle & ammo worked , just need to do more testing . Hard to read because I didn't high light the numbers , but # 1is bottom center , #2 is center right , # 3 is two off target & three center left , #4 is top right , #5 is bottom left & #6 is bottom right . I numbered the loads in the above post .
  3. Rifle shot great , no failures of any kind , all test loads locked the Bolt Back . I'll post the same Photo of the Target here as I will in the reloading section . This is with only a light lubing of Components . The Geissele Super 42 Spring & Buffer worked great , the rifle has no felt recoil or muzzle climb even with out a Muzzle device of any kind , just a Thread protector . Its funny at the range with all the old guys , we call it old guy Tuesday , they were impressed with this newer Cartridge & we circled around me during testing & were laughing at my fuk'ed up Chrono readings , my Magnitospeed needs some sensitivity adjustments , the 4640 fps it showed a couple times , seemed no one believed it The Errors , I believed & after talking to the Magnitospeed people , they say i need to adj. the settings for it to work correctly .
  4. All ammo worked flawlessly in this new build , no FTF or FTE , Bolt held back on all loads , but I wish I could say all was good with my fancy Chrono. , the Magnitospeed would give the first reading then would do one of three things , no matter where or how I set it up , it would show ERROR , Half the first recorded speed or double the first speed . I will post photo's later & the results , I did load some WC 846 Pull down Powder , 24.6 gr. & had more room in the case for a couple of more Grains & it had the fastest Velocity of all three Powders of 2557 FPS , but that was the first round out the Barrel all others were Error's , kinda pissed me off . New battery in the Magnetospeed Chrono made no difference . So basically I have to set up my RCBS Chrono , & this fancy one , just to make sure what is happening , I don't trust any of the results . No Muzzle Brake , just a thread protector & very little if any recoil or muzzle jump from the 20" bbl. , brass was ejected at about five feet back around 1430 o'clock or so ,. (all loads dropped in the same place . Rifle was " lightly "lubed with the "98 special" , lube & I will disassemble , but not clean anything but the Barrel & Chamber . Just talked with Magnetospeed & they said I need to make an adj. on the sensitivity settings , so I will try that later this week . My notes & Target photo's later , #1-23.0 gr. ,3031 -2380 fps #2-23.3 gr. ,3031 - 2400 fps #3-23.6 gr. 3031 - 2422 fps #4-24.0 gr. 4895- 2252 fps #5-24.5 gr. 4895 - no readings #6-24.6 gr. WC 846 - 2557 fps .
  5. Yep , mine is , maybe not someone standing off to the side
  6. There will be little difference in noise levels between the 16" & 18" , depending on the Muzzle device . I can tell you, the 16" with out a MD is like a cannon going off .
  7. You don't say what Lower Receiver you are using with the Aero Upper , I would recommend the same Manufacturer for both Upper & Lower Receivers. Seems we see more fitment issues with miss matched Uppers & Lower Receivers . If your getting a complete built Upper , you may not have much choice in Barrel manufacturers . 16" will work fine , I have very small group differences in a 20",18" & 16" , of course there would be even less if you custom tailor your loadings for one Barrel length . The 20" did print the best , but all were the same loadings , I do not custom load for the Barrel length , I look for the best all around loading for the different barrel's. I'm using various 155 gr. Match & Hornady Amax , Bullets with very good results & I really like the Amax . I would go more with a 168+ for longer ranges then 500 though . Just remember , on a 308AR platform , every ounce makes a difference when your humping it around all day & the Barrel is where a lot of the weight is . I'm a Criterion Barrel pusher , you can get a complete Upper with their Barrels from Fulton Armory . Nothing wrong with Aero as a choice .
  8. Well Ok , its good press for the two companies. Real or not . I like the comment about when will the selfie ones come out
  9. I prefer a Rifle Gas system in a 308 AR, but a Mid Gas system will also work , plenty of Gas signature for cycling the action in a 308 AR.
  10. I have " EXIT ONLY " around mine , think I would fit in .
  11. Well , I deal in Lead , I can pretty much get anything from anyone I want , if it comes down to that ! (on a side note :) There was a Post on a Survival Forum somewhere & I think it was me or someone else who posted it here , that a guy that immigrated ( legally ) from Kosovo or something like that, that went into civil war & he basically said , money, Gold or other precious metals , lasted about a week after law enforcement disappeared . Roving gangs took what ever they wanted & only groups that survived had AK's & plenty of ammo .
  12. I'm easy , all my AR's have extra high rings , only way to get proper Cheek weld for me .
  13. More great proprietary components to confuse builders . They must think this makes them special , it may , but you won't sell a lot of components , thats been proven with proprietary rifle's & their special parts .
  14. That sure is a lot of math , makes my head spin , just for a set of rings . Some Ring Manufacturers use Base to bottom of the Ring , some use Base to center of the ring for their measurements . Someones High may be a Med. to another . I like Warne , I use a bunch of them in both configurations , QD & Permanent.
  15. Shot himself in the Hand ? More like he was fast drawing & pulled the Trigger & his support hand got in front of the Barrel instead of sliding in from behind & underneath . I shot at a Deer with my 44 mag. Dan Wesson & my support hand ( with Glove ) wrapped around the Cylinder instead , at the Barrel gap ( too far forward ) instead of around my grip hand & the blast went right through my glove . Powder Burns on my hand & man did that smart , lucky I had gloves on & totally missed the Deer I jumped .
  16. I'm going to change some scopes around on some of my rifles & like 98 did , will be swapping the Burris 2x7x35 for a Burris 3x9x40 on the 25-45 rifle , the 2x7 will be going back on one of the 5.56 rifles , the large 6.5x22x50 on my 16" 308 ( which I put on just for testing Hand Loads ) is coming off & going back to Iron's ( MBUS ) only , its the way it was & wanted it from the beginning. Photo's from the range after tomorrow .
  17. Hell, most of it already here , with Chrono results Though its pretty much spread out though. I keep logs of all that I have tested.
  18. Was going to go to the range today , but glad I looked at the web sight schedule , DHS will be there . Tomorrow is another day.
  19. Of course , that will depend on the Objective size on the Scope . Some 50 mm & above may need to go Med..
  20. Is Springfield still bad now they have seen the light & backed away from that $hit ? I have four XDM's & I'm not getting rid of any of them , I like them . Do those Red accessories glow in the dark ?
  21. Just so its known , there is more to Primer cratering then just what we have talked about here , the Chamber holding onto the case a little longer then normal , can also show these signs as does some Primer brands & some Military crimping . If they are not showing signs of puncture or the case is not showing pressure rings , I don't think its a cause of concern .
  22. I don't see an issue with that brand , I have several of his & no issues with firing pin holes .
  23. I use only clamp on Gas Block , made of Steel , I do have one made of Aluminum on my 20" 308 & has had no issues & its my oldest 308AR build . The one I used on my 25-45 Sharps build I just did was a 0.750 YHM clamp on type , around $ 40 . There are a lot of others.
