I had a old "billet" lower from the 70s made by advanced armament inc. 3 digit serial number it looked like a block of aluminum hacked into shape with a machete lol. kinda wish I still had it just to hang on the wall.

they are. there's a large group of vets who got shots from the same lot who are in REALLY bad shape and VA isn't doing anything. the stories are horrifying. I found my old shot card and my shots (6 of them, whole series) came from 2 different batches. the first lot was only a few numbers above the lot that hurt people.

^yeah. cool they got it all fixed, but they have a long way to go for redemption. those "mistakes" were unacceptable. first time builders do better than that.

also of note...I think it cowitness, but all my guns have raised rails so I can't be sure. maybe I'm spoiled by eotech, but you really need to be right behind the gun to find the dot. seems a little less forgiving than my PA reflex.

initial impressions... pretty cool. came with the sight, protective cover, and the "tunnel" cover. the sight feels pretty solid. the 3 moa dot has a little bleed but not bad. the 20 moa circle nice and sharp. the auto bright works really well and adjusts fast. buttons all seem solid. if you hold the on/off button for 2 seconds it overrides the auto bright and goes to full power. holding the ret button down switches it to NV mode. the electronics are good so far. the tunnel cover seems like a failure point. it feels tough, but not magpul tough. the paperwork says it has passed drop tests, but I don't plan on verifying that. it has little rubber arms that hold the tinted lens cover on. it feels solid, and it's not really under stress but I don't trust it 100%. to be honest, I don't even really see the point of the tunnel cover other than looking neat. suppose it keeps dirt out of the path of the dot. it looks like it zeros by moving the sight in relation to the base, so I assume the base is proprietary and wouldn't be able to swap with any other systems. overall, I'm happy at the price I paid. id be not so happy at the $400+ I've seen it advertised for. ill update this after I get a few rounds through it. ill get some more pics up asap.

as you said....308s are a different animal. it can be cheaper to buy a decent rifle than build a crappy one. skim through here and you will see many home builds have growing pains. even those built with the very best parts. a factory gun can be sent back if need be. you have a long way to go before you "need" to upgrade a factory armalite or LAR. even a low end DPMS will probably outshoot most of it's owners. with that said....it is alot of fun surfing websites picking out parts for your build.

funny story about that spray....buddy of mine bought a bottle of "perfume" from some kid in Baghdad. we called it goatass. it was a milky white color and literally smelled like armpit rubbed with curry powder. we had lots of fun with it. one poor bastard left his kevlar in our hummer, and we soaked the webbing with it. non stop laughter.
