  1. Gonna take lots and lots of Russian troops to take over Colorado. In the Navy when we would be doing CQs for the pilots, a thing that irritated me beyond approach was listening to people as they pointed at F-14 Tomcats with the wings in the retracted position, "There goes an F-15!" then as the same aircraft extended the wings and was coming in for approach to land "Now that's what an F-14 looks like!" Others told me that an A-3 Skywarrior was a "Russian plane!" So I'm a bit skeptical when people claim to have seen multiple Russian helicopters in Colorado. Though there is one in civilian colors at a nearby airfield...not far from Pinal Air Park, where Evergreen is stationed. I'm more inclined to believe the "russians" are our troops training for scouting and intelligence than them being actual Russians. Jon
  2. In my best Aussie accent "Nice, mate!" Jon
  3. Another thing is this (which I have a hard time with): other people have tried it already-if they say it isn't a good idea, don't do it. Even though I had some great loads worked up (all my work-ups are done on a single stage press) with 9mm and Red Dot, people on forums, reloading manuals, and people in person said "Don't use large flake powders like Red Dot with auto-presses...you get very inconsistent powder charges!" Heh...that was them, not me. Checked the first 20 rounds or so for powder, all looked good, so I cranked out 100 rounds of 9mm with what was supposed to be my awesome load. Ran a bunch through my pocket 9 and they didn't feel good. Looked at the empty cases and some primers looked like they were now large and flat primers. Crap. Took them home and pulled the remaining 90+ rounds, weighing the charge on each. Weights ranged from 2.2gr up to 4.2 gr of Red Dot. So now when people tell me "That's not such a good reloading idea," I listen. Still proving them wrong with electricity though! <thumbsup> Jon
  4. Seriously though, looks like some people are a bit on edge. http://news.yahoo.com/confrontation-causes-hysteria-arizona-theater-032043971.html Jon
  5. I teach reloading also. That statement right there is the Numero Uno reason that people don't want to get into reloading...me included. Funny...tell people "All you have to do is pay attention to what you are doing and double and triple check everything," and they look at you like "Nope! That thar ain't worth it!" Jon
  6. And "they" just conveniently passed that NDAA internet monitoring crappola. Jon
  7. Pics still not working for me. Maybe I can post some pics of this computer in the shotgun thread. Jon
  8. NoFail, that takes some serious stones to admit you swallowed hook, line, and sinker. You got my respect brother! One of my "Rush Limbaugh conservative" buddies recently said about me "Jon is more conservative than me...and that's a rare thing." I sure was pissed when I was speaking out against Patriot Act and it being unconstitutional, and all the Rush fans calling me "bleeding heart liberal"! Now Obama has Patriot Act II, III, and more, using drones in country and assassinations on citizens in country here will follow. Just what I was warning against then when I asked "What about the person after Bush?" It looks like we will be making a stand...a big one. Jon
  9. But don't remember what? <dontknow> Jon
  10. Hey Micro! My daughter has a BWK-47 in .223 (same gun, different importer). We replaced the wooden stock with a KVAR synthetic stock set, of Warsaw Pact length (she's short) in olive drab. All 4 parts are made in USA and count towards the part count. KVAR has a guide on their website telling you which parts are easiest to replace to make them in compliance. Everything required fitting, except the pistol grip. Go slow and take your time. The Tapco kits are supposed to be good too. Jon
  11. <lmao> <thumbsup> The longer you drag it out, the greater the reward when you finish it! Jon
  12. I got your sandcookie, unforgiven! Here it doesn't really matter. If it isn't raining, dust blows and sticks to sweat and you end up looking as if you rolled in the dirt anyway. Jon
  13. Welcome navybowhunter! Is that "bow" as in "bow sonar"? I think you're the first person to have a POF here...most of us just keep buying more rifles. <laughs> You'll find out what that's like soon enough! <lmao> Jon
  14. Yeah, refund back when he started purchasing firearms, which has been said was a "few months ago". He dropped out of the PHd program last month. We don't know how far in advance he had paid or if he was on grants (which have to be paid back if you drop) or loans, or the "Yup, that's him!" mom in San Diego. Some of that gear is also easier to get than out of date Twinkies. And where is the "$20,000" figure coming from? An AR-15, a Remington 870, and a GLOCK .40, plus 6K of ammo leaves a great chunk of change left over...especially since we don't know what caliber(s) this order was. Jgun, I agree...fighting back is always the better choice than sitting back and waiting your turn. Unfortunately, due to this event and events scheduled for next week, we may all well be facing that same choice. Jon
  15. I have only heard of one SIG issue...and it was a P220 Carry. One of our other instructors for SAFE had one, which was his daily carry. One day at the range, at around the total round count of 800 it quit firing. No dimple on the primers, firing pin appeared to be intact. He took it back to the shop, who stripped it down and found nothing wrong, did a thorough cleaning, and put it back together. It now fires flawlessy. But he has that little nagging in the back of his head. Jon
  16. I get this a LOT with students complaining about XDs and GLOCKS, some of the other "combat pistols". To a person, they are holding the sights with a 6 O'clock hold. With a combat sight setup, rather than using the 6 O'clock use a dead-on sight picture (sights aligned with the front sight obscuring/blocking out where you would like the bullet to impact). For the bullet impacting right issue, MAKE SURE YOUR PISTOL IS UNLOADED AND NO AMMO IS PRESENT, then run some dryfire drills. You should be able to maintain a perfect sight picture while squeezing the trigger normally. I have some pistols where my technique must be absolutely PERFECT, for as the trigger breaks my tension on it pushes it left or pulls it right, or heels it down a bit. Dryfiring will also help you if you have developed a flinch you are not aware you are doing. Jon
  17. That's nice cool shootin' weather here in Arizona! <thumbsup> Make sure to get all hot and sweaty before you shoot prone w/o a mat. Jon
  18. The mainstream media, which I don't trust, is saying "the lone gunman" over and over. Alternative media has an interview with a woman from inside the theater, who stated that the man in front of her received a phone call on his cell phone, then got up and opened the exit door for Holmes. Holmes' neighbor stated that around midnight loud techno music started blaring from his apartment. She went up to complain, the door was slightly ajar...and she thought "Maybe I should leave it alone." Probably saved her if the booby trap info is correct. In one fell swoop semi-auto rifles, shotguns, handguns, and internet orders (6,000 rounds?! Amature!). An Aussie bloke on another forum, in response to "That'll never happen here," reminded us that it happened THERE. As to the money, he just dropped out of medical school...what kind of refund is that? As to conspiracy theory...same as above, everything at once. An off-radar, "nice quiet guy" average (white) John Q buys all these evil implements and flips...obviously the government needs to protect us from everyone. NOT Jon
  19. Someone else can bet their money on that one...I'll hold onto mine. If they did pull my name out, it would simultaneously crash the computers of the DNC, NSA, DHS, FBI, and CIA. Jon
  20. <laughs> <lmao> Hey wait...I resemble that remark. :o Jon
  21. 6132 I agree with JeffreyC on this...if those that took the oath fire on my countrymen, they are no longer my brothers. Most cost effective anti-armor is still the molotov cocktail. Our snipers are trained to take out a tanks communications, sensors, optics, thereby creating a blind crew running a worthless tin can. Our aircraft are sensitive on the ground. Fired missiles need to be replaced in factories that can be destroyed. Dead traitors don't need advanced weapons anymore. You have our permission to take them and use them against enemies domestic. Scores of millions of Veterans have been labeled "domestic terrorists" by a rogue government. I don't see them cozying up to powers that want to kill their neighbors, friends, or loved ones. Jon
  22. Then enter the contest! https://my.barackobama.com/page/s/baracks-birthday-free-entry He'll get more than "Happy Birthday!" if I win. Jon
  23. Alrighty then! Time for some wheelin' and dealin'! Jon
  24. Went out early to RSO for a club member to shoot full-auto! He has a pretty good selection. Damn good way to start any day! Jon
  25. Nice shooting irons, Roughneck! Welcome aboard! Jon
