That reminds me of the gang of outlaw bikers riding up to Sturgis, when they come to this bridge with a crowd gathered around a pretty young woman who was getting ready to commit suicide by jumping. The lead biker didn't want to see such a horrible event but also didn't want to be considered an emotional wussy by his biker buddies. So he stops his bike, walks over to the rail and says "Hey you can't leave this world without giving me a kiss, can you?" So the jumper climbs down, steps over to the rail by the biker and plants a serious kiss on the hairy dude! It is the most passionate kiss anyone in the crowd has ever seen, lasting three minutes. When done the crowd broke into applause, even the state troopers on scene. A bit flustered the big bad biker says "That was quite a kiss! What's a cute doll like you want to kill yourself for anyway?" The jumper smiles and says "My parents want me to quit dressing like a girl!" Jon

Robocop1051's new Sig P220 Carry Elite Stainless

Robo...I'm not going to be another mindless "yes man". That thing is hideous! You should've had a bag on your head walking out of the gunshop. Send it to me in a box marked "Fruitcake-Christmas 2007" and I'll dispose of it properly...no one will ever know how bad you screwed the pooch on this one. <thumbsup> Jon -
Somewhere I've seen a thread with pics doing mass annealing. Using some type of pan, filling it with water to about 1/3 to 1/2 up whatever cases you are doing. Heat the neck and shoulder until they are the correct color and then tip it into the water. Jon

Dude at the range had both a Saiga and an AR 12 gauge. Pretty impressive! Thanks washguy! Jon

We understand! Nothing like enthusiasm around here! Jon

What made you decide to move to the 308 AR/AR-10 Platform?

Welcome gunbunny! Now that you mention it...that was an issue on the M1As also. Ridiculously high scope mounting. Jon -
For me, here in the desert, green works better and is easier to see for me against all our backdrops. Hope you like it! Jon

I remember reading Colonel Cooper back in the early '80s, stating that "The .223 mouse gun is leaving our troops under gunned. We will get in a confilct in the desert again and 300 meters isn't going to cut it. Our military will be switching back to the .30 caliber rifle." Spot on. Jon

He just shot me a message asking if a Plum Crazy with DPMS 5.56 upper/1in9 twist, magpul grip, handrail, forward grip, flip up rear was worth $700. Jon

His exact words are "Something I can clear a house with but still reach out to medium range." Even though he was AAA they had him clearing houses...he knows it well. Jon

Weaponizer, by the time I'd started reloading ammo I had forgotten more about it than a standard room full of reloaders...just never had time or money. When I found MarlinOwners holy crap!! Talk about encyclopedias full of information! I'd never heard of paper-patched bullets (they call home cast "boolits") in metallic cartridges. Just the information they have posted on the .25-20 Winchester is enough to fill a book the size of Lyman's 49th Reloading edition. Somewhere on there is a thread on neck-sizing for .303 British Enfields, which had grossly oversized chambers in order to keep functioning in mud, dirt, dust, i.e., combat conditions. People went from 2 or 3 loadings to dozens without any signs (yet) of splitting or cracking. On the .308s with a slower twist the solution seems to be push the bullet faster. <thumbsup> I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can do with the heavier bullets once we have the .308 setup. My buddy is looking to get a mid-length carbine, and is currently torn between .223 (which he wasn't impressed with in the Sand Box), a 6.8, and the .308 platforms. What is the least he can pay for a reliable package in each of these calibers? Also, how much could he do a basic M-forgery in each of those calibers if he built it himself? Dude needs something!! Jon

MarlinOwners.com has an awesome reloading section, with more on annealing than in a whole collection of books. Also have a great section on casting and another on paper-patched bullets. Jon

I'm not retired but seeing as this is for our military, I'll help out. I will test fire 200 rounds through each example for function testing, and will only charge standard federal prevailing wages. I'm considerate that way. Jon

Lifetime supply of Sierra bullets gift certificate?!? Does she have a pretty sister that's horny, likes pudgy married guys, wants to be a concubine, and likes shooting almost as much as she likes reloading her man's ammo?! Barrel twist can be worked with. It used to really bug me that certain bolt makers offered .30-06 with a 1in10 barrel but their .308s had a 1in12 or even a 1in14 twist. The science is out there and these AR308s are supposed to handle any safe-pressure load a bolt-action will handle. Jon

There are all sorts of tricks when it comes to heat treating and annealling. It's only been done for a few thousand years. ;D I just can't see purchasing a machine when propane torches are so readily available. Jon

That's the biggest complaint about Jap bikes...support dies a few years after production of that EXACT model ends, and they are constantly tweaking parts. My buddy got a 5-speed gear box for his H-D and it said something like "1936-1987 models only". :o Nothing like keeping up with the latest technology. <laughs> Wanna know how far 2-stroke technology has come? http://www.deltahawkengines.com Bad ass! Jon

I can hear Robo now..."We've been working our asses off and I know we had enough parts to build 400. Where the hell did I put them all? On an unrelated note altogether Tom, did you blow out the shocks in your truck? It is riding awfully low." <laughs> Jon

Hhmmm...well balanced rifle and rear heavy women for me. Jon

Lengthen that swingarm 3' and take it up to the Widowmaker in Utah. Jon

Just got back in town and was surfing 308AR forum on my iPhone from the browser, no issue. Jon

Yes but only recently had I heard of it. Prior to hearing of this though, I'd familiarized myself with the 3 classes of militia and had tried to educate people about their being a part of the unorganized militia. Can you say "deaf ears"? I do believe though that more people NOW may be willing to receive a little Dick Act to avoid being really screwed. Jon

You can get a slew of different AR stocks. I find that neither the AR308s nor the M1A platform kicks much. Both of my M1As I installed GI flip-up butt plates. I really like that the M1As have a lower part count...less parts to break. BUT that oprod system is finicky and loads MUST be within certain parameters. Jgun already mentioned the different uppers for ARs. Two pins to pull and field stripping is well under way. While M1A fans like to say "you don't crap where you eat" as a criticism of the AR's direct impingement system, the system can handle hotter loads as there is no oprod to bend and slam around. I'm sold on ARs for .308 now and will skip the Springfield M1A offerings. But if I get enough cash I WILL be getting a LRB M-14! Jon

POF 308 Scope Mounting/Boresighting
planeflyer21 replied to navybowhunter's topic in General Discussion
That is too close. The closer you are to your target, more adjustment is needed to get lined up. At ten feet you are beating a dead horse. Adjusting a new scope at 25 yards, I've had to go as many as 27 clicks on a 1/4moa elevation adjustment to move a couple of inches. Give yourself some distance first. If that doesn't work we'll talk about other corrections. Jon -
Not loading .308 yet but get my brass from a variety of sources. My main practice range is used by a number of govt agencies that leave 9mm, .40, .45acp, and .223 all over (where as we are required to pickup our brass). I scavenge theirs and call it a tax refund. I buy once-fired handgun brass but only in huge quantaties that make rejects acceptable. Usually this will be on Gunbroker. New, hard to find brass I get when it goes on sale, i.e., .45 Colt or .25-20, which can be silly expensive. I watch all the sites mentioned plus MidwayUSA and Gunbroker for those. Jon
