  1. Yup...some call it DAG, I bought it as Dynamit Nobel German surplus. Put in a mag and bangity-bangity-bangity-bangity-bangity-bang! The best surplus I ever had was Hirtenberger 147gr FMJBT Austrian stuff...clean, consistent, very accurate out of my M1A Loaded. Jon
  2. How very AR180. <lmao> It all eventually comes full circle. As much as I'm loving that Operator, the SIG 716 will be getting a serious looking at. Jon
  3. <lmao> Ho-hos haven't been for breakfast in a long time. Cap'n Crunch still reigns supreme around here. Nice offset to the bitter taste of the coffee. Jon
  4. Welcome again, Ridgeline! Have an XD9 myself. Kinda boring...never jams, always hits where it's pointed. <thumbsup> Jon
  5. So I gather you like the piston-clean? Nice setup! Jon
  6. Hoot, after reading all the disclaimers on RRA's website, I'd be interested to know what the pitch and type of those barrel threads is exactly. It would be nice to know if it is just a big legal disclaimer from RRA. Jon
  7. Situps?! Been doing those too...plus stuffing it with pie and turkey. I'm actually a skinny dude...that's why my chest is losing weight...yeah, that's the ticket! Swinging that Freedom Machine around is helping to work the muscles the pushups are missing. This time of year you'd think my colon would lose weight. Jon
  8. I have not but, if I do, I have no doubt they will call me within minutes of getting the email! They're good that way...part of the reason I want them to get my business! I'm kinda swamped so not in a rush. Jon
  9. Welcome! Glad to have you RetiredJM! Jon
  10. Ok...I can't let this dead horse lie, I want that TacOps1 charging handle! So while cleaning the Freedom Machine today, I measured the stock RRA CH...in hopes that one of my 308AR brethren will measure their TO1 CH in the same areas. Maybe, just maybe, the critical dimensions are fine and only the tabs or body need a slight bit of stoning. Anyway, here we go. The stock CH is as follows: .401" wide on the body, .491" wide at the guide tabs The guide tabs themselves are each .120" tall, and are flush with the bottom of the CH body .615" tall at the gastube end, .298"-.300" tall along the length of the body Each of the flats on the top are about .155" C'mon folks! Who can help me out with a few minutes measuring here? Thanks! Jon
  11. Glad to have you, Argonaut! Jon
  12. The Operator has a 1in10 twist. Just for ensuring the scope was on at 25 yards, it shoots one-hole groups. I was against plastic surgery...but these gut implants seemed so popular I had to get one! <lmao> I've lost a bit of fat recently...on my chest. <dontknow> Makes the belly more robust...I prefer to call it a "body monopod for prone shooting". <laughs> Jon
  13. I've had a few centerfire rifles where the cocking handle reciprocates with the bolt assembly. If a person is holding their rifle properly, it isn't an issue...left or right handed. Jon
  14. Cool! Welcome aboard, Ridgeline! Jon
  15. I had a great one this morning! Was too concerned with making the steel sing and didn't take a pic of the paper. Maybe tomorrow. Jon
  16. Got a call Wednesday, needed someone to RSO at the club. It was my turn so I volunteered. <dontknow> Went early with the girl, got in plenty of time on the Operator! Made sure the scope was on with the new Weaver rings and had to adjust both windage and elevation a bit. Backed it up and played some tunes on the steel! Ran about 180 rounds today. Found one mag that likes to let go while firing and won't feed the next round. Upon inspection, there is a good sized burr on the latching point. Time to find a phone booth and morph into Dr Dremel! Mostly ran the German surplus, plus two mags of 150gr Remington FMJ, and a box of Federal 180gr JSP. All ammo went without a hitch. Time for a query in the reloading section...this empty brass is starting to bother me. The smoke coming out from under the handguard doesn't really show up in the pic. Jon
  17. Now, back to the lighter side. What is reasonable for the least amount of weight one can put in a 308AR, and still get a reasonable 1.5-2 MOA? Seven pounds? Six and a half (I think that would perhaps be too light)? That would be the cat's meow! What are some of the lighter guns on the forum? Jon
  18. That there IS a good price on factory ammo...especially right now! Thanks unforgiven! Jon
  19. Man! That IS one big elf! <laughs> I kinda think the same way. If you've held a loaded Tommy Gun to your shoulder, then think about humping that thing all over creation for weeks at a time, you should be able to do the same with a nice .308 and 20 extra mags. Jon
  20. Howdy Hoot! That is a good introduction! Gonna take out my RRA Operator in the morning, run some surplus and some hunting ammo through it. Jon
  21. This is where I got mine: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=MDSA20&name=DSA%2c+Inc.+20rd+SA58%2fFAL+.308%2f7.62x51+Metric+magazine&groupid=4 They've gone up a bit. Good, new, mags. Jon
  22. Good to know that the girl's attitude will blossom into character! She's lucky the Operator dumps them in a nice little square about ten feet away. Her .223 AK puts empties into low orbit, nice big dent in the middle of the case. Something a few folks have done here in the desert...take just the deep net portion of a swimming pool skimmer, mount it to a clamp. You can put that on the edge of a bench, a table, or a little stand for prone or sitting. Works great for punching paper! Fortunately I still have a minor that needs to build character. Jon
  23. Now unforgiven, that would irritate me...I just got 15 brand new Korean FAL mags! <thumbsup> I like my RRA Operator! I'm thinking I may go mid-length upper, make it the "carbine" .308, then build a MA-10. "Honey! Can we get a NOTHER safe? This one's full..." It was easy to lie when it was all lever guns. Jon
  24. Well guys, I was looking at the Mech Armor website today and noticed a warning down at the bottom of the page. It said there had been issues with the TacOps1 fitting certain guns...the RRA LAR-8 being one of them. So I shot them an email and left to get the kid from school. Coming out of the school, my phone rang from a private number. Answered it and it was Mech Armor! Less than half an hour after I sent the email!! We had a discussion about the CH being a very tight fit in the RRs and that it may be possible to stone them down to fit, but the structural integrity may be compromised. :'( We briefly discussed my wanting the SIG 716. They said they had some experience with the extremely well made 516s and that they have very high quality control...but don't know if the TacOps1 will fit. Well...guess I'll have to buy a Bushie (or if Windham gets cranking out .308s)! Jon
  25. That's funny. We used chromed M1903s for drill squad in bootcamp. Finally got one earlier this year. Took it out and blasted it like mad! Fun shootin' gun! Jon
