Store-brand tissues are still Kleenex when the snot is dripping. ;D Stoner invented the AR-10 in .30-06 IIRC, then sold all the rights and names. When talking to some older folks you just have to use their lingo. That's why I tell the gray-hairs at the range to look at my Rock River AR-10 Operator. Jon

Alrighty... Seems there are tons of "Spring and Pin" emergency kits out there for AR15 types. What should we have for our AR-308 rifles? With each manufacturer having their own proprietaryiedness (added to Webster's in a few years), what would you have for YOUR gun? Jon

Yankee Hill YHM-230 Gas Block Riser

Can't say how many times I've gone to grab something with plastic on the handle, to have the plastic crack and then pinch, or just crumble apart. Of course, this IS the desert. <thumbsup> Jon -
What would up-Chuck say? "Even though the overwhelming majority of calls have been in support of a national concealed carry, it is obvious the NRA is behind this lobbying, as most voters aren't smart enough to figure out how damaging the freedom in legislation like this really is. I will vote against it to, er, uh, really to protect them from themselves." Jon

In the Navy, they used to do "Operation Quick Draw". At various locations around the catwalk that skirts the flightdeck, there are these large armored lockers. A team of three Marines would pounce, remove a Ma Deuce (fully assembled) from these lockers, and mount them on permanent fixtures along the catwalk, then shoot at flourescent orange 55-gallon drums which simulated mines. Nothing like shooting a belt on the courtesy of the taxpayer! Jon

Yankee Hill YHM-230 Gas Block Riser

Thinking about this some more. Having lived in a pretty rugged desert for most of my life, upon reflection, I believe I now know what will happen if you mount one on your gas block. After years of happy service and you telling everyone you know how nothing will happen, you will go to raise the now crystalized plastic body to an upright position, only to have it crumble in your fingers. Your astonishment will only be compounded by the fact that part of the sight and mounting hardware will stubbornly refuse to budge from its position on the gasblock, while the sand-granules that used to be the other part of the sight body stick resolutely to your fingers while simultaneously smearing the color of the plastic across your skin...never to be removed but shed with dead skin cells over a period of a month. Better listen to Mag-Pul. Jon -
Howdy from AZ! Jon

My local sheriff candidate has already held two Full-Auto Shoots for fundraisers this year. Next one will be in the early part of 2012. Ma Deuce was the star at the last one! I got a kick out of the Sterling smg at the first event Jon

60s?!? Here that's "wear a flannel and have something filled with down in the truck" weather. Bbbrrrrrrr! Jon

You poor, deprived soul! You must be at Hoffman's everyday shopping. Jon

EC, you're starting your daughter too late! Our daughter is now eight and has been shooting for half her life. <thumbsup> She now owns: Rossi .22/410 Combo, Ruger 10/22, Ruger SP101 .22, and a MAK90 in .223 with a proper stock set on it. At four I told her Mom "We need to start her shooting." That wasn't met with much enthusiasm. We then saw a LITTLE kid riding a motorcycle through the neighborhood. I said "We need to start shopping for her motorcycle, since she won't be shooting." Suddenly there wasn't an objection to guns anymore. Jon

If we've learned anything from the great Powder and Ammo Shortage of 2007-8, it is that we buy when it's on the shelves. Jon

I'm totally prepped for winter. Bought two new flannel shirts earlier this year. Still have a sweatshirt if it gets really cold. <thumbsup> T-shirts in winter is how we identify the snowbirds...and shorts. What kind of sled you riding 98? My '83 R80ST is apart for rebuild. Jon

Is there a member in the cap and t-shirt business?
planeflyer21 replied to imschur's topic in Club House
Holy crap?!? For silkscreening?! The lady that does my EMBROIDERING charges less than that, and my initial order was for 9 ball caps and 5 shirts. $30 setup fee for initial order only, cost is per piece and varies with thread count (my hats were $4.45/ea, shirts were $4/ea). That was two-color pattern also. Clarissa's in Tucson. Jon -
"Handguns are only for fighting your way back to your rifle." "If the muzzle of your gun sweeps me again, you'll be pulling it out of your ass." Always wanted the t-shirt that used to be in Shotgun News that said "INNOCENT BYSTANDER". Jon

Anyone have personal experience with the Smith Enterprises sound suppressors? I didn't think I needed a ss but as it seems there is a SEI Vortex flash suppressor already on my Operator, I realized it is lonely. ;D Jon

Oops! That is the same ammo from Ammoman. Just saw it advertised in CTD. Jon

I don't know but I'm happy so far. So often these days a consumer can go after a favorite brand, and it is now crap and made in China (or somewhere else). I hope they expand their offerings with comparable ratios of quality-to-pricing. Jon

Chinook to move your safe? I'm in good company then. My Ford Ranger is usually doing a wheelie about three inches off the ground on my way to the range. Jon

Howdy from AZ unforgiven! Glad to see someone else with a RRA Operator! Mine isn't everything I thought it would be...it is only TOTALLY RAD!! Definately got a bug going. Jon

There may be hope for Wally World yet. Jon

Thought I'd mention these, as many threads have to do with interim or "until I can afford a scope from NASA". I wanted a lower power variable scope to mount on the Operator. After shopping many different brands, the choices had been narrowed to the Nikon Monarch/Monarch Gold series and the Burris XTR 7.62 1.5-6x. The Burris actually had mixed reviews, so I was a bit hesitant about spending $800. Burris also did some sort of redesign, as the model number changed and the price went up a bit. The only complaints that concerned me on the Nikons were the turrets, which seem to have been resolved in the latest iterations. Right when I was ready to pull the trigger on the Nikon, my buddy began pushing the new Redfields, the 2-7x33 Revolution in particular. American Made in Beaverton, OR, impressive glass for the price range, full lifetime warranty. How do they hold up to the repeated recoil of an AR-308 I asked him. He said he has one mounted on his T/C Encore in .444 Marlin with hundreds of shots through it (and this guy is a reloading "power junkie"). Bought it! Well worth the $150 tag. I like the Accu-Range reticle, just enough on a lower powered scope IMO, rather than the ever-so-common 1,000 yard ranging/70mph crosswind reticles on almost everything nowdays. The scope is matte, the body is strong. Now there has been some issue with me finding proper mounts. The ones sitting around here were too short for the straight stock on the LAR-8 and my fat face. Purchased a Burris P.E.P.R. mount and it provided plenty of clearance to get a good jaw-weld with the stock. Reminded me of my young and experimenting days with See-Thru mounts. It did work enough to determine that the scope works well and will allow (with careful determination on my part) the rifle to shoot one-hole groups. Ditched the P.E.P.R. mount and got a set of the Weaver X-High Tactical rings (think I posted Millet somewhere else...they are Weaver). Still have yet to test this configuration but I can get a proper cheek-weld with proper eye alignment immediately. Photos to come after the range! Jon
