  1. Thoughts on shooting corrosive ammo? Yeah...don't do it in a gas gun. Unless you are TOTALLY anal about getting every little spec of dirt from where the gases make contact, save it for bolt guns. Jon
  2. Uugghhh...I got a headache just reading that! I thought mags were disposable. Jon
  3. Sorry...should have said "Stuff a square peg into either square hole." That's better! <thumbsup> Jon
  4. Commonality, bro, commonality. Would hate to grab my rifle and the wrong mags. Maybe I can put one set on one side of the bed, the other set of rifle/mags on the other. It's just as easy to stuff either square peg into a square hole. Jon
  5. Ha! Most guns I've owned have been sold, traded, or wheeled-and-dealed to get other guns. I probably couldn't even list what has passed through my hands...I've tried, then someone else mentions something and my brain goes "Oh yeah! One of those too!" Right now we have one of almost each common action type in handguns and rifles in .22 caliber, for training classes. Not too many of the bigguns. Jon
  6. Howdy from AZ! Jon
  7. Glad to meet you Dustin! Rock River LAR-8 uses FAL mags, either inch or metric pattern. I got new steel Korean mags from AIM Surplus on sale for $15/ea. They are up to $17 the last time I checked. Thermold makes polymer FAL mags that can be had for $17 or $18 each. My LAR-8 Operator has one major problem...recoil is manageable, it is accurate, and it is reliable, therefore I never have enough ammo on hand! Good luck! Jon
  8. I'm trying to get used to a 3-point sling on my Operator. I'm pretty used to a standard rifle sling though. Jon
  9. for a price confirmation! Looked at SIG's website this morning. They only had the Patrol model listed. If they think I'm buying two they are WRONG!! >:( I've never bought two of any type of rifle. Well...not counting Mini14s. Oh yeah, or AR15s. And Marlins! But older Marlins are special! And the M1As didn't really count. Well, er, uummm...all the .22s are different though! Jon
  10. I don't know...but Welcome Mudzilla! Jon
  11. You hookin' up George or your sister? <laughs> Don't worry George...I bet she knows what a "grit" is and that it calls for butter and SALT. Jon
  12. Welcome gunjunkie! THAT gunjunkie? ;D Jon
  13. http://stewartbootcompany.com/index.htm In South Tucson, they came to my attention when I learned they had the motorcycle boots contract for several police departments around the country in the 1990s. Jon
  14. Hiya George! Glad you found the forum here! I'm in AZ. Albaker Albacur Albakur New Mexico isn't that far...maybe you can join us for a shoot here in SE Arizona. Jon
  15. I was talking with a guy that had several on their family farm. They culled them out, shooting them and dumping them in a ditch on the back forty. He said the crows, buzzards, coyotes, wouldn't even touch the dead hogs. Weird. Jon
  16. I also like researching history along with ancient Greek and Hebrew languages. Jon
  17. Hhmmm...holding a medicine ball in bed while kicking your feet? <dontknow> Different strokes I guess. Jon
  18. Dang Blue! Those are some downhill bombers! Got the Spider for daily travel, 4x4 Ranger. No mods, haven't needed it yet. Love the size. Had it out on ATV trails. <lmao> Gonna have to find a pic of the bikes. Jon
  19. Those hogs are getting to be like crop busting rats in some parts of the country. Over in W. Texas some of the ranchers are paying bounties on them. Oh yeah...where are the pics?! <munch> Jon
  20. Add another blue oval ranger with a Ranger. <thumbsup> Of everything I've owned (and I've owned more vehicles than probably most of my neighbors combined), Dodge and Ford have been the best for offroad. Just like the Ford a bit more, as I've not had to rebuild any of their engines. And they like to start. Ask my '59 F-100 that started itself up. Jon
  21. Zumabob, figure out how much you would spend on shipping ALL the little parts, from all the different places. Then pool that money together and move over here to Arizona, where you can walk into any number of stores that seem to have AR accessories growing from the shelves like grapes on a vine! Jon
  22. Thanks Hoot and Jgun! Seems like someone could make a few extra dollars with some aftermarket accessories with all these different threads. Hhmmmm.... Jon
  23. That's a mouthful there, Argonaut! Shopping a scope mount for any M14 type rifle is an experience in mind bogglement for sure. The new chassis make it easier to mount a scope but often double the price of the rifle. I was plenty good with the irons though. Hard to beat a good set of NM peeps. Jon
  24. Besides shooting?!? I'm an NRA Certified Instructor across the board for everything but muzzle loading and archery, up to and including the Personal Protection classes. Having been involved with LE for years, people just don't know or realize how comprehensive the Personal Protection training actually is. Currently the VP of Marana Shooting Club (working on getting that straightened out) and Treasurer of Southern AZ Firearms Educators Inc., a nonprofit shooting education group. We do lots of work with women's groups and the BSofA. On the side, I like working with machine tools. Used to work in production shops, most in defense or aviation but got tired of the "feast or famine" cycle of layoffs and hirings. Having created some of my own tooling, there are some shooting related products in the works. Oops, you said "non-shooting". Uummm...airplanes are cool! Got that from my USAF Dad. In my late 20s started pursuing a career in flying, got through Private Certificate easily enough. Was working simultaneously on Commercial, Instrument, and CFI, when 9/11 happened and there was suddenly 87,000 unemployed pilots. Bad time to continue with training. Two-wheeled stuff is cool! Been awhile since I've been on the gas burners but still ride the pedal pusher types. Like exploring and hiking. It's nice to feel like you are the first person ever to be someplace, then look down and see a pile of spent .22 LRs that look like they were shot by Annie Oakley. Jon
