  1. I had one of the first gen Leupold Tactical Long Range scopes. As it was bought wholesale, I was kinda spoiled on the price...and that was pre-lighted reticle days. I'm very impressed with the clarity and brightness of the Trijicon scopes! In my opinion they are brighter and clearer than a comparably priced Leupold. No batteries, no fuss. Optics Planet has the Trijicon you mentioned on sale right now: http://www.opticsplanet.net/trijicon-accupoint-5-20x50-riflescope.html Jon
  2. Welcome aboard Shellslinger! Jon
  3. That is pretty sweet! Jon
  4. I understand your frustration, Dustin. I remember when Polaris was working on getting the Victory motorcycle line to market, they had a number of delays developing their V-twin engine. After the third or so delay, the president of Polaris said "We are developing an all American made motorcycle from scratch. We are not going to release it to market until the bugs are gone and the consumer gets what they pay for with their hard earned money." Everyone I know that owns one will never ride anything else. Jon
  5. Thread drift alert! I used to work driving an old lady around, she had a '92 Taurus. Very boring car. But when you stomped the pedal to the floor, it went NOW! Lots of torque for that tiny engine. Jon
  6. <munch> Jon
  7. <thumbsup> Jon
  8. Whoa whoa whoa now wait a minute! Looks like the magazine police has been dipping into the simple green! <lmao> <laughs> Got to clean a couple of revolvers...it was raining this afternoon. Jon
  9. They sell extra long pipe cleaners to clean them. You can go to a tobacco shop and get like 100 for a couple of bucks. You can go to an art supply store and get like a million, in different colors, with eyes and stuff. I still need to pick those things up. While on the subject of odds and ends that help with gun cleaning, a lady student of mine told me about these things women buy at beauty stores. They are like a Q-tip but with sponge on the end, and come like 500 for $4 in a bag. They are stiffer than a Q-tip too...great for wiping out crap. Jon
  10. Hoot, since I teach with my guns we focus on caliber commonality. Therefore I would say build it in .260, like your Savage. New ground is good also! Who'da thunk I'd enjoy that little .25-20 could be so much fun...from heavy hitting .22LR levels to WELL past .22 Magnum, up into .22 Hornet and even beyond. Hey! Look how muddy the water got when I waded in! <lmao> Jon
  11. Timney 10/22 trigger group from Brownell's! The girl's gonna love that gun even more now. Jon
  12. That law's wording is very similar to Arizona's on Castle Doctrine. Arizona is also now a "Stand Your Ground" state...if you are in a place where you have a legal right to be, conducting legal activity, and someone starts in with illegal force, there is no need to retreat before using physical or deadly physical force. Arizona doesn't give any leeway to bondsmen either. Jon
  13. Unforgiven, everyone, read a little history. Long ago a brilliant metallurgist was able to combine iron with other metals, in order to make a rust resistant steel. This was called, naturally, stain less steel. Then marketing got a hold of it. And it became stainless steel. But it will rust and corrode still...just nowhere near as fast as carbon steel. Clean that gas tube brother! Jon
  14. I can see! I can see! ;D Jon
  15. Aww man! I can't see the pics! :'( Jon
  16. Cool! I realized that my inventory has changed since those pics were taken...need new photos. For wheelies we currently have GP100 6", GP100 4", a Single Six Combo, a Bisley Blackhawk .45 Combo, two of the older 6-shot SP101s in .22 LR (my daughter laid claim on one, bit my hand when I tried to get it back), a Taurus 605, and my Grandfather's non-shooting S&W Regulation Police in .38 S&W. I think that's a total list. <dontknow> I don't suscribe to all the popular knowledge on revolvers...they DO jam (seen it plenty of times in person), the immediate action drills when it jams is to use them as a blunt instrument, they are NOT easier to shoot than a semi-auto, and IMO as an instructor snubbies are a horrible "one-gun person" gun option (really an "experts" gun, as you will have to shoot weekly to stay proficient with a snubby). But crap they are inherently cool! If a person practices you can get a speedloader reload to as fast as stuffing in a new mag on a semi-auto. They do seem to be a bit more accurate (that 6" GeeP will shoot into an inch at 25 yards). Talking with another instructor who had a group of newer cops at the range. One asked the instructor why he had a revolver, as the cop had never seen one in person. He offered the cop a few courses of fire with the revolver and the kid was hooked! Ran out and bought a S&W 686. Jon
  17. My gun pusher, er, dealer, assures me that the 716 Precision Marksman will be available later this month. He says he buys only SIG direct and that this information is from SIG. la la la la la Reach out! Reach out and touch someone! Reach out! Reach out and just say SPANK YOU!! Jon
  18. Welcome RoadW3! I bought off the shelf, so can't help you on the build advice...but I am happy with my RRA LAR-8 Operator, i.e., the Freedom Machine! Jon
  19. 3-point is basically a longer 2-point, allowing the carrier/shooter to use their own body as the third support point for the rifle. Check 'em out on youtube. Hopefully it is just practice I'm lacking. <laughs> Jon
  20. Wheeeeeeel guns?! What type of KoolAid you drinking?! EVERYONE knows ::) they are an ineffective fighting platform, regardless of the fact that revolvers are inherently AMERICAN. So what if our law enforcement and military relied on revolvers for 140 years? That's 90 years longer than the insightful Europeans, after they adopted the semi-auto platform nearly universally. And ONLY six shots?! Puh-leeze! If you can't shoot a 15 shot pattern, reload in 1.8 seconds, and launch another 15 rounds in the general direction of someone 20 feet away, you obviously have misgivings that most gunfights only take 3-5 shots. Yeah...I have a revolver or two. <thumbsup> Jon
  21. Never heard about the ammonia trick. If you just clean it well that should keep it safe also. Most U.S. manufacturers quit using corrosive primers by the 1960s. The Eastern Europeans, India, China, still use them though. The issue with the direct gas system is gas with that stuff gets dumped EVERYWHERE, making that cleanup more tedious. My solution would be to shoot it all in one sitting. <thumbsup> Jon
  22. I haven't found a sonic cleaner big enough to clean the gun parts I want cleaned (for what I'm willing to pay). Used to drop my pocket knife in one at a place I worked...as soon as it hit the liquid, you could see gunk start separating from the knife. Jon
  23. "Only got the one?"!! <lmao> <laughs> Jon
  24. The 3-point I have is a Condor I believe. Been practicing around the house but it isn't second nature yet, like it is with a standard 2-point. Jon
