New 20" barrel, now it short strokes

Measured an unused d. wilson 308AR BCG with the same chinese caliper. BC face to Charging Handle notch ------ ----------------- 0.379" Bolt Length ( AR 10 & spring loaded FP may be different ) -- 2.93" BC face to Gas Key ( interface with Gas Tube ) -------------- 0.305" BC face to end of Gas Key Base ------------------------------ 2.773" BC face to inner Cam Pin slot ------------------------------------ 1.163" BC face to outer Cam Pin Hole ---------------------------------- 0.462" Bolt Face to BC face ( locked position , BCG assembled )---- 0.583" Complete Gas Key Length ( rear base to where Gas Tube enters--2.466" -
New 20" barrel, now it short strokes

Took some measurements on my AR-10 BCG, I used a cheap chinese digital calipers, measured several times till I got two consistent measurements. This BCG has well over 3,000 rounds on it; BC face to Charging Handle notch ------ ----------------- 0.376" Bolt Length ( AR 10 & spring loaded FP may be different ) -- 2.925" BC face to Gas Key ( interface with Gas Tube ) -------------- 0.3415" BC face to end of Gas Key Base ------------------------------ 2.824" BC face to inner Cam Pin slot ----------------------------------- 1.1545" BC face to outer Cam Pin Hole ----------------------------------- 0.455" Bolt Face to BC face ( locked position , BCG assembled )---- 0.600" Complete Gas Key Length ( rear base to where Gas Tube enters--2.468" We need someone smarter than me to put these on some sort of spreadsheet for easier comparison. -
Seems like I've seen this before........

North Korea is more of a cult than a communist government. Truth be told WE are living in a socialist governed country that is only a few small steps from communist government, and you are correct, most have no comprehension of it, they have no clue how controlled they are.

Glad you posted this, my Brother-in-law just bought an 18.5 rifle length gas from them for a build I will put together for him. -
Custom AR 10 Build (also posted in General Discussion)
jtallen83 replied to rfaye7007's topic in Building a .308AR
I have rifles with both and see no appreciable difference with bullets from 130 to 178 grain. Each rifle has a particular velocity node it prefers with the same grain bullet but you can have that same difference in barrels with the same twist and length. -
Not that I've noticed. On this "pistol" I'm running an Aimpoint and a 3x magnifier, with my astigmatism I don't shoot tight enough groups to tell but it still whacks the 12 inch steel at 100 yards as fast as I pull the trigger. If it changed on my Matrix build then it wasn't more than an inch but then that is a pretty stiff 16 inch barrel. Still need to get my AR-10 set up for suppressor use so we'll see if the longer 20 inch barrel leads to a bigger shift.

When I have the time I will try to get all those measurements on the AR-10 BCG, maybe a few more pictures. I have an unused wilson BCG in both AR-15 and 308AR so that will make for neater pictures, don't want to have to clean most of my stuff. -
When it comes to Armalite if you are talking about an polder B model I'd say it is tops, the newer stuff after the ownership change has NOT impressed me.
-
NIB may be slicker but it also can flake off where QPQ cannot. I have both types from Wilson and honestly the difference in cleaning is negligible. I bought one of his blems and can't find the blem, they are a steal for $155!

First time out with the pistol in suppressed mode, makes it a whole different experience! Easy to understand why they make them with a suppressed mode built in. Took longer to cool down than it did to shoot the 60 rounds, pure enjoyment

Happy Easter to my 308AR family! Think I'll go to the range and have an easter brass hunt!

Could use a recommendation for a charging handle latch

Sig 716 is another oddball that doesn't play with others. -
Found an interesting manual that I had to pick up. It appears to have been issued with a rifle in 2002. There are three pages stapled together with a list of kit supplied, a warning not to interchange parts with other rifles as this is a matched set, and a questionnaire about the rifle's performance that was left blank, maybe the sniper was busy with other things at the time? I will try to get this scanned into a PDF file in case anyone wants a copy.

Didn't measure but the pictures tell the story, part of it. Left is an AR-10 BCG and right is a d. wilson DPMS style BCG. Maybe we need to start another pinned thread for this topic, I'll try to get more detailed photos and include an AR-15 BCG and shots of the gas tube inside the receiver. and yes the wilson BCG is NIB and dirty as all get out but in the middle of a lube test after numerous rounds of suppressed fire. -

I've got one of those and a raptor, little by little I'm swapping them all out for the TacOps. Hands down the finest, toughest, best fitting, charging handle I have ever used. -

New LaRue .308 Carbine, on sale Weds
jtallen83 replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
and Friday they sold 1,000 triggers in under 6 hours at $99 for the base package for a minimum $99,000 gross. They have the formula figured out, quality sells! -
Are you thinking pin and weld to keep as short as possible? I did that on a 5.56 build for the wife and have been very pleased with the outcome. As far as uppers being a pain to build, I'd rather build two uppers than go furniture shopping with the wife, much less painful for me and I'm used to having gas port size issues!

And I have only seen one large pin on the auction site since I started watching, go figure.
