What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
jtallen83 replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
A suppressor cover. I thought they were a little silly till I went to swap the can from one rifle to the other. http://www.manta.us/news_20131223m700suppressor.php -
Except self-control!

I have not had any luck finding a deal on an old B model. I did come up with a tube from an early T model so when I get the B set up for a suppressor I might add it. Those 18 inch target barrels on the Armalite site have my attention lately as well.

Van Barker in Hospital - NEEDS Prayers!

Get well soon Van! I look forward to another phone conversation like the last one. -
It's a custom color, burnt bronze with some black to match the trimmings on the pistol. I haven't tried a lancer in it yet, if it works then I may go that route so I can actually see the bigger round. I knew if I posted up you guys would get me on the right track!

What is everyone running for mags on 300 BO? I'm having feeding issues with Gen 2 Magpuls but the Gen 3 runs fine. Kind of a drag because I had three Gen 2's cerakoted to match my pistol in order to help avoid any mix ups. They run fine in three different 5.56 rifles but not for my BO pistol so now instead of clarity I have confusion..........

Sounds like it was mispackaged. Brownells should fix you up, they are top notch.

It works fine in the restrictive mode but I would think my 16 inch rifle length gas would be about as tame as a 308AR can get as far as gas impulse. It may also be that running suppressed changes things enough to prevent the bleed off mode from working, I have not tried it without the suppressor but really don't find the need to since I fully intend on running suppressed all the time. It's looking like a standard restrictive adjustable block would perform the same.

If I feel in danger of bodily harm then I'll collapse something as I work my way up their zipper with 147 grain HST's I walked around for years knowing I was one of the baddest asses on the street, no gun required. I'm over that now, out of shape and patience both.

Problem is I can only get my foot above my knee on a good day and then it sends my back into spasms. I remember what I did to a few people that let me get close in my youth, won't let that table get turned on me now.

Yep, 16 inch rifle gas might have something to do with it. It was opened up one size at a time till it functioned with the cheaper ammo. No need to ask them, "The Superlative Arms patented “Bleed Off”, direct impingement, gas block for the AR15 platform adjusts the gas flow by bleeding the gas out of the block instead of restricting the flow like conventional adjustable blocks. " I was just hoping like most adjustable blocks it would work for the big brother, it does actually work for the 308 just not the bleed off portion of the system, only in the standard restrictive mode. I'm thinking the 308 just has so much more gas volume it would take a much larger bleed off port to make enough difference.

Bought the same wrench, still haven't put it to use.

I agree with all but the last statement, hand to hand (knife) is my last resort. If I feel lives are in danger the gun will come into play way before I allow the distance to close enough for hand to hand. For sure there will be no warning shots!

I picked up one of the fairly new Superlative Arms DI adjustable gas blocks for use on my Matrix 308 AR build while suppressed. https://suparms.com/collections/adjustable-gas-blocks-direct-impingement Took it to the range today thinking I would adjust it on the "bleed off" setting for use with my SDN-6 suppressor. With 175 gr match ammo I adjusted it as far as it would go and never got the failure to lock back you are supposed to reach. The only ammo I had that would not lock back at this max setting was ZQ and Perfecta. They both locked back after just one click closed. Makes me think these blocks are not really intended for 308 AR's in the bleed off mode. In the restricted mode it functioned like you would expect, 4 clicks open from the closed position and the bolt locks back when running suppressed. Another side effect of running in the bleed off mode was the finish on the exposed corner of my suppressor started coming off, must have been thin on the corner to begin with. The adjustment system takes some getting used to. There are 4 clicks for every full rotation of the screw. From screwed down tight to 4 1/2 turns out it acts like the standard restrictive flow gas block. At the 4 1/2 turns it is wide open like a normal gas block. As you continue to turn the screw out it starts to bleed off more and more gas. The pictures here show the screw one click in from the max bleed off setting. I may just swap it around and give it a try on one of my 5.56 rifles running suppressed.

Here are the details and changes I made to my pistol build; I went with the 10 1/2 inch barrel because the ballistics charts showed not much gained going past that. I went the pistol route mainly because Iowa does not allow SBR's. Even if it did I would start with a pistol so I could run it while going through the long wait for a stamp. I went with 1-8 twist simply because this is what Faxon put on the length I wanted, I couldn't find any info that screamed one was better than the other between 1-7 and 1-8. I went with the AAC SDN-6 suppressor, love it but have never used anything else, hell I've only used this one for a few days now. I have an AAC TiRant 45 stamp coming as well, I may use this suppressor on the 300BO because I can break it down and clean all the burnt powder up and it is a good bit lighter.

Very nice, I mean VERY NICE!

So I'm wrong, it isn't a filler just the residue from the burnt powder. I yanked some bullets from the three loads I've been shooting, the size and shape of the powder and the fact that I had not seen this residue before shooting the Grizzly ammo still points to it being the culprit. I've have seen something very similar in some MAXXTech 9mm made in Bosnia. The powder from the Grizzly 220 gr ammo; The S&B 200gr ammo; The Freedom Munitions 208 grain load;

It's a good practice when testing a new rifle to start out with one round in the magazine to make sure the bolt locks back like it should.

Got mine....I think, the wife asked what the envelope was, when I told here the contents went in her purse!

I've been busy getting all my rifles set up for suppressor use, installing muzzle devices and checking alignment. A couple are making me a bit nervous with how close the gauge is to the edge on the end cap. They all pass the test as it is given in the instructions for the Geissele alignment gauge, passing through the suppressor without making any contact. My 300 BO; My 716; My Matrix 308 build; and the closest, my AR-10(this one has not been torqued with rockset applied yet; I learned a good lesson on shooting cheap ammo, 100 rounds of the Grizzle ammo and my SLR block is locked up tight. There is some kind of filler in the powder that has caked up everything on and in the pistol, even left a covering of black dust on the range bench. Once I shoot it up that will be enough of that!

What ammo were you using? Do you notice any machine marks in the chamber or odd pattern on the fired brass? Many times these types of issues are resolved with a little chamber polishing. Could be ammo, I have a build that sticks with Magtech ammo but runs fine with other brands of ammo.
