  1. The load I shoot in my 1911 is 5.7 gr. W231 behind a 230 gr. XTP. I really haven't tried much else since I found this load, it hit my spot so I stuck with it. It is at the top of the chart on some manuals so as always, start low!
  2. Yep, we have Pheasants Forever to thank for organizing it all. They lobbied land owners to donate the range locations. Many LEO's have volunteered to be instructors and coaches. So far there are 5 school districts involved but several more are looking hard at it. There are plenty of studies that show training lowers the chances a kid will be involved in gun violence or a firearm related accident so this was the answer to the school shooting issue, logic prevailed <thumbsup>
  3. My grandfather started me shooting squirrels out of the corn crib at age 5. I don't get all the time he had but I do everything I can to get them as much exposure to firearms as possible! It sounds like the local schools are all going to start shooting teams, I'll get them all the gear I can!
  4. How do I obtain the same results with this Geissele trigger?
  5. Do you have a link for this SD3G? I'm new to the parts scene so forgive my ignorance <dontknow>
  6. I got to change residency.... :(
  7. Stan the man! <thumbsup>
  8. There is no cure so the only option is to run with it, your leading the pack now!
  9. Great resource! Got it in my bookmarks now <thumbsup>
  10. I'm the grandpa, a much easier task than raising her mother, there is no stress like the stress a father feels when raising a teenage daughter! Neither my wife or my daughter have much interest in shooting but this young girl can't get enough range time and she's a straight A student!
  11. Here is my 11 year old granddaughter shooting my 1911; Once she shot it she was done with the .22, it would have been much easier on gramps wallet if she was shy of the recoil! Wish there were some competitions she could enter in our area, I know she would do well.
  12. damn, I HAD forgotten that one........
  13. Ebay works fine but you have to do your homework on the item and the seller, like you're doing here. With the recent craze prices on quality stuff have gotten silly but a few years back I was grabbing lots of good used kit for cheap. A few of my best grabs; Bushnell elite 4200 scope $210 new in the box, Surefire millennium weapons light kit $120 complete like new condition, an Armalite scope mount for $25, a FF tube, nut, and grip from an Armalite 10T $12. I've bought a few poor quality chinese parts for my nephews airsoft so it all has its place. I'll have to admit I spent a ton of time on ebay as a seller myself. I've sold roughly 10,000 antique tools since about 2003. It does take time to sort the wheat from the chaff!
  14. I'm feeling more "normal" now, I have the Otis kit ,minus the flag, and the spare parts kit from Armalite.
  15. And I thought I'd get some neat gear ideas on this thread.....can you tell I'm new here? :eek7:
  16. That would be entertaining! <munch> You think the guy would have studied some basic tactics before starting such a scam.
  17. Sadly this has been my observation as well. They didn't even seem embarrassed when I commented about charging twice what I saw them pay a few days earlier. >:(
  18. Love the Hitler quote. One of the best arguments against registration is the progression of enforcement the Nazi's used!
  19. Nice clean lines, there is something to be said for the minimalist approach. <thumbsup>
  20. I use the ladder test when working up rifle loads for this reason, make the smallest change on the rifle like a new flash hider or comp and the old data is out the window. You want the bullet to be exiting on the top or bottom of the wave where the dwell is the longest, this gives you the most tolerance in load consistency.
  21. Worked great, somehow you knew my next question was going to be what twist for a shorty!
  22. I'm curious if anyone has tried any of these in a .308 AR? www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/AMM-7350 These guys have the same round; www.unammo.com/ Some here as well; sgammo.com/product/federal/20-round-box-...762tnb1-factory-2nds 2925 fps out of a 16 inch barrel is claimed as well as "reduced recoil" and low flash. It all sounds good if it functions in a semi-auto? ?????
  23. I've barely scratched the surface here and I'd gladly contribute, a fantastic resource! <thumbsup>
  24. I'm planning on a 7 inch build real soon. I've been pouring through the posts here digesting all the experience I can. I have to leave for work in Mississippi this Sunday so I'm hoping to find a pistol registered lower to get started with before I go, looks like everything else will be able to ship to my apartment there. I'm hoping to acquire one of those new Tac-con 3MR triggers for it, pricy but as close to auto as I'll ever get. I'm betting the pig will be a handy addition to the build!
