  1. Most places that will sell you a .308AR barrel will be happy to headspace it for you if you send them your bolt. Bison Armory and Rainier both told me to send in the bolt. Call them and ask the particulars.
  2. There were several others offering TAC in 8lb kegs yesterday. Also AA2495 and H335. It looks like powders are slowly coming back. I'm holding out for AA2520 and Varget. ^-^ TAC is THE powder for me for the .308. Great accuracy and a little cleaner than AA2520. It worked in the 5.56 with the 77 grainers (1:8 twist hbar). It was better than acceptable, not as good as respectable.
  3. I have the Shadow Ops 308 NiB BCG. It is great. No problems at all. The NiB seems to stain a bit easily but that's a minor cosmetic issue. I took Robocop's advice to get some Fireclean, but haven't used it yet to see it's efficacy. Will let you know.
  4. A number of folks got the 1lb bottles of TAC in the last two days. Only one guy had the 8lb kegs, but he wanted $190 for each keg. Forget that! Hopefully that means more powders will be coming up soon.
  5. Thank you!
  6. Best of luck to all you guys going under the knife. Prayers to you, and heal quickly.
  7. Good luck. We'll be praying for you. Yes, at this age we are all out of warranty and the parts start breaking!
  8. There are so many. This is one of my favorites: "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." -Robert A. Heinlein
  9. I'm not sure I'd put it quite that way. In the book "Starship Troopers", you had to have served honorably in order to gain the "franchise" (hold office, vote, etc.) It was difficult to get into the military, and easy to get out. Those not serving were left alone to lead their lives as they wished. Keep your nose clean and nobody bothered you. I could live with that society!
  10. Make sure in your selection you get a forearm that is compatible with the height of your receiver. Do you have a "high" or a "low" receiver deck? Second, make sure the forearm will accomodate your gas block if you plan on covering your gas block with the forearm. I picked an Apex 15". It's pricey (although not as much as the Centurion) but I like it.
  11. In addition, I prefer to use charts such as these. These charts give a better perspective of the relative burn rates of various powders. Start low and build up as always. Also, I like to graph up the various powders with my chosen bullets. This helps when you don't have a chronograph. It also helps during these times when your favorite powders aren't available and you have to look at substitutes. http://gsgroup.co.za/burnrates.html http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/burn_rates.pdf http://www.adi-powders.com.au/handloaders-guide/equivalents.asp
  12. Our friend Kathy who set up the website for the fundraiser has said she resonds to everyone who sends a check to the Chase account. I'd like to get a pm from you guys if you hear from her. No distrust of her involved, just QCing the process. Again, I'm overwhelmed by the good will. God bless you all. Larry
  13. Nice looking weapon. Handguard looks like the Mega system.
  14. Guys, I am overwhelmed by your prayers and generosity. If you're ever passing through southern LA, let me know. Larry
  15. Once you start shooting it, the smile on your face will make you want another. It's almost as bad as Garanditis.
  16. 39.5 grains of TAC under a 168 BTHP Sierra. LC case full length sized, LOA 2.800". Great load. Too bad there's no TAC anywhere to be had.
  17. Does having worked out of Miles City count? How about Great Falls?
  18. Full length sizing is the only way to go for gas guns. Small base sizing dies optional. I never found the need for them.
  19. I like it too. Too bad it's the low profile DPMS style.
  20. Welcome aboard Peter. Your wallet should abandon all hope here. SI Defense has matched upper/lower AR308 sets in stock now (at least last week they did). a lot of folks here use them. They are an excellent platform to begin your build.
  21. I hope Manning gets his a$$ kicked. After he refused to shake hands after the Saints beat Indy, screw him. Used to love the Donkeys when I lived in CO, but not now.
  22. I really looked hard at these, but they only work on "low" profile DPMS patterns. That didn't work for me. Maybe a high profile in the near future. Keep us posted on the build.
  23. I'll respectfully disagree. I've reloaded thousands of 1x-fired 7.62 brass from machine guns in three different rifles. Never, repeat, never had a problem with it. Just carefully size it, trim it and you're good to go.
  24. Would they hold up on an AR308?
  25. So who makes matched upper/lower receivers with the "low" profile DPMS pattern? There have been several new players in the game and I haven't kept up.
