The amazing thing is once you get a fire going you don't really need to. I have smoked as long as 12 hours on a original load of charcoal. I usually can reuse the charcoal from the previous time at least once unless I am slow cooking. The little section in the center of the grate opens up so you can add it if you need it, but I use a ceramic smoking stone if I am smoking meat. A very flexible grill. My tower smoker gets much less use since I got it.
Great Book on wood fire cookery from the country with more beef than any other.

Thanks. My cow this year is really good. Actually half a cow. Now that our son is gone and we are older, a whole cow is too much. Benefit of living in the boonies, we are close to the source.
Complex. I just fired up the Akorn to 600 degrees, put a 2 pound sirloin rubbed down with olive oil, garlic and seasalt, rotated first side 90 degrees at 4 minutes to get grill cross hatching, flipped at 7 same thing other side. Perfect medium rare.
Had screwed the buffer tube too far-in. Backed off one turn, Was still enough to hold the detente pin and spring down. Reassembled and it now holds the bolt back-on both the bolt catch and an empty magazine.
My “old” HBAR match barrel AR-15 is still going strong after 3,000 mixed 55, 62, and 75 grain bullets.I don't think your Dad had to worry. Still-shoots tight groups. Haven’t done many mag dumps with it though.
Used to winter camp in northern Minnesota down to -15. Below that I said screw it and went into town hit the bars and rented a motel room. Used a Snow Lion Polar guard mummy. Still have two of them. Good to -10 when newer. If forecast for above 10F I used a Timberline rectangular one for comfort good to +5F. Still have them too. Last time I camped was three years ago in the BWCA. 14 straight years I took my son up there every summer. That is a good price on that bag though.
No it doesn’t. I will get into it tomorrow, but I think I have the buffer tube screwed in one turn too many. If not I will do some troubleshooting and see.
