  9. First of all welcome. You may want to post in introductions and introduce your self to the group (sorry Shepp I beat you to it.). I can't help you much as I went the Armalite AR10 route, but I don't think you have to worry about settling for DPMS. A lot of forum members have them and like them. One piece of advice: Get the rifle and lubricate it very well, especially the bolt carrier group, and take it to the range and shoot it a bunch with some different types of ammo before doing any modifications. That will give you a baseline from which to work as to what you like and don't like about it. If it shoots 1-2 MOA out of the box, might not want to change much, but that will be up to you. At least you will know what you are starting with. Then it will be time to start deciding which parts replacement should be a priority. I am guessing a trigger may be right up there.
  10. Hey Kevin, not everyone from that Vietnam Era has that attitude. And thank your Father for HIS service, please. I had a couple of good friends that were at Khe Sanh and Da Nang during that time, may they rest in peace.
  11. When you are willing to share, I would be interested in chronograph and pressure info, understanding you may not want to release that right now if you are going for a proprietary cartridge.Looks like an interesting and entertaining build with some new ground being broken.
  12. Nice! Always good to see some skilled creativity.

  19. JT you beat me to it. I was going to suggest Shepp talk to you about it, as I remembered you had some. Had to take some Ibuprofen for my shoulder this morning. Even with a winter jacket, 180 rounds gets to you off the bench .0 F this morning.Indian Military surplus from 1979 on is the stuff to watch out for. It has been implicated in some bad accidents. Word is Winchester was contracted to build an ammunition plant in the early 1970's for India. When their contract expired in 1979 the Indian government took over production and the quality went straight downhill. Never heard any thing bad about Pakistani, but I haven't looked. The Indian Brass is thick, with reduced capacity because of that, so I reload it a little light to be on the safe side. Good brass though. That was really the only marginal ammo I had in my stash, so I will have to start shooting up my quality Mil Surp stuff now. Or just shoot my reloads. I am trying to talk a friend out of some West German Battle Packs for cheap, but those have an iffy rep. Apparently a couple of different corrosion causing molds have contaminated some of them. One doesn't do much harm, you just wipe it off. The other one though, eats right through the brass. If you ever see battle pack rounds with a pinkish color corrosion on them, word is to stay away from it.
  20. This was on links. Actually if it is on links it is probably better quality than their loose stuff that was stored who knows where. Is it boxer or berdan primed?
  21. Old thread but another range day. Decided to shoot up that 1975 Indian Army surplus I had left for 98's lube test. Nice excuse to blow through 180 rounds. Forgot how satisfying a mag dump can be. My AR10's are sighted for 168 and 175 gr reloads, so it took a little bit to dial in with the old Indian surplus. The stuff was amazingly accurate. Someone had stuck a dozen clay pigeons on furring strips stuck in the ground. I was exploding the pigeon on the first bullet, and snapping the stick at the base on the second at 100 yards. The AR10's were flawless. About 20 rounds in, and I could not miss. After I was done I was wishing for another 200 rounds. Just an enjoyable day. Now I have a bunch of brass to load up with Sierra BTHP's, and a renewed appreciation for my AR10 B's love these rifles!
  22. I would believe it. I also am guessing the military is working with psychologists to "condition" them to prevent this. Just makes sense. Scary though.
  23. Welcome from Wisconsin. Keep the pics coming.
  24. I stand corrected. This is a good article. http://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/the-real-reason-the-us-air-force-wont-build-new-f-22-raptors-15920
  25. My goal was 10 20's apiece for two rifles in a SHTF scenario. Plus two 5's for hunting. Go do other stuff now.
