  1. That is a place we would go after we got the crank out and started our car.

    Grilling

Not really grilling, but I am learning to make sourdough bread for the first time. This is my second loaf.
  3. Thank you Shepp for saying that. I thought I was going to have to say something like that until I saw your comment. That state of being does not exist.
  4. Yes it was. Apparently the metal block is not government mandated. I have a "blue box" model sans bayonet and with the block. Unfortunately it also is impossible to put a drop in trigger in there without some work. There is quite a lot of information available on the web about it. I was more worried about staying legal than anything. As long as it was self imposed by Colt, I am okay.
  5. Ran into an issue with putting in the new drop in trigger. Starting in 1989-90 Colt started installing a sear block in their receivers that precludes putting in a drop in trigger. After looking at the amount of dremeling needed, I decided to let my LGS guy, a former Marine Armorer, do it. He is good and knows the platform. it is an odd set up in that there is a single sided pin on the right side of the receiver and no way to relieve tension on it. Will let you know how it turns out.
  6. It's related. When I was young and going to drive ins with girl friends, I would keep a car until the back seat started to reek, then it was time to get a different car.
  7. Damn! forgot two! had 20, 36 counting lease cars!
  8. The wife and I were lucky enough to both have had jobs where we got a company car, in my case for 34 years, so that cut down on the number. Still we have had 18 vehicles, another 16 company vehicles, 6 boats, a motorcycle and 1 ATV. Worst car (wait for it) a 1973 AMC Gremlin cuz I couldn't afford anything else. Worst truck, a 1971 Jeep 3/4 ton. Best car, Wife's current M37 Infiniti.(the Corvette is a toy so I don't count that) . Best Truck, my current Ram Laramie. Best Boat: my current 20 ft Lund Alaskan. Best offroad: My 1975 International Scout II. Best company car: 2008 Charger AWD.

I have had GM, Jeep, International, Ford and Ram SUV's and trucks. To be honest, Jeep are the worst. Internationals rusted out before they had a chance to break down. Ram/Dodge until 2003 had transmission problems and until 2008 rear quarter panels that rusted out due to defective welds. GM and Fords had their issues as well. Now I think it is a coin flip. All of their quality has jumped in the last five years. Ram's technology has finally caught up. Can't talk about Japanese trucks as,I have never had one except for a Mitubishi Montero SUV and I was not impressed. Like my wife's awd Infiniti M37x though, fast and comfortable.
  10. I gotta get a black suburban. Good job R2.
  11. What can are you going to put on it?

Hemi, Rams are getting up there as well. A 2015 tradesman Ram 1500 summer of 2016 was getting $32,000 with no miles. My 2015 Laramie limited 1500 Crew was $36,000 with 7600 miles last July.

Shepp, I spent 8 months looking for my newer truck last year. Auto Trader has a better search engine than Car Soup, though I used both. Actually found some price discrepancies on the same vehicle. As you probably already know prices go Ram>GM>Ford>Toyota=Nissan. Private party used is going to be cheapest. Auto Fax or some other program of that type is your friend but not fool proof. Trucks have gone through the roof in the Midwest. I will keep my eye out around here for you. GM or Toyota, right? 2012 or newer, Price limit, say, $25,000?
  15. R Squared shoulda got new shocks on his truck before christmas.
  16. Probably is they just triple the price for us know nothings.
  17. I had to buy a nut cup before the first year was over.
  18. The app is free by the way. Apple and Google Play both have it.
  19. That man saved a lot of good men's lives with his leadership. General, enjoy your rest, you have truly earned it.
  20. m1911, 308AR is a truly unique forum on the Internet. Part of the reason is that a lot of the trolls and fakes that populate a lot of forums and cause them to blow up aren't tolerated here. I am not saying you are one, but a common modus operendi of those types is to come in and overwhelm people with all the wonderful stuff they have, and /or how much they know. I don't know how much you know, probably quite a bit. But a lot of the people on this forum know more about firearms and specifically 308AR's then I will ever know. If I have a problem with mine, I trust them to help me solve the issue, and they have always done so in the four years I have visited this forum. The point is, I have learned that no matter how great my stuff is, or my accomplishments are, somebody on the forum has done more, knows more, or has better. While it is good to like your equipment, and tell people about it, and by the sounds of it you have good stuff, it is a fine line between that and boasting, which doesn't float here at all. My advice as another old guy who loves guns is to step back and read some of the old threads, and ask questions that are truly questions and not reaffirmations of what you might already know. The level of knowledge a lot of the forum members have is truly awesome, and a huge help. But people who jump into the Forum with both feet right away are taken with a huge grain of salt. I do sincerely hope you will hop on the service rifle thread and talk about some of your experiences with your M14's, I am a neophyte with them as opposed to the AR10 and I am always looking for some good ideas.
  21. I bought this wind meter for the Nikon Spot on App on my Android and I Pad. Our range has no wind gauge, and there is a pretty consistent wind in that area. So far in trying it with my Android it works pretty effectively. Look forward to seeing if it improves my shooting accuracy in windy conditions. For $29.99 it didn't break the Bank. NIKON SPOT ON BALLISTIC WIND METER FOR APPLE & ANDROIDSpot On™ Ballistic Wind MeterNikon’s all-new Spot On™ Ballistic Wind Meter plugs directly into the headphone port found on almost all smart phones. The Spot On Wind Meter takes an accurate reading of the wind speed and direction and inputs the data directly into the Spot On Ballistic Match Technology™ Application that every serious hunter and shooter should have on their smart phone. Now, the Spot On app not only provides the precise aiming point on your reticle to compensate for distance, but thanks to the new Spot On Wind Meter, you now can also compensate for wind drift.Accurate: Wind speed, direction, average & gust measurementsCompatible: Works with iPhone, iPod and all major Android devicesFlexible: Reads in meters per second, miles per hour, and Beaufort scaleReal-Time Wind Speed
  22. Welcome from Wisconsin and good luck with the build.
  23. What make magnifier is that on the top one?
  24. Realized after I posted it had that integrated rail. Nice! Guessing it is solid as a rock! Personally I haven't got to a trust level with quick detach mounts, but a lot of people swear the LaRue ones actually work quite well.
  25. Sorry for your loss brother. It's never an easy thing to lose a loved one. I lost my sister to a similar situation a year and a half ago. Your mom was blessed though to have a son who loved and cared for her like you did. Our prayers are with you.
