  1. My college kid was in tenth grade when that thread started! Is a nice looking rifle, though.
  2. A local product and I misspelled. Its Amsoil. Recommends not wiping excess off, as it will penetrate the surface of the metal. I am going to try it on one of my AR10's and a AR15 and evaluate it over the next six months. Also on a 1911.
  3. We only had 2 1/2 hours! By the way, cleaning out the bore after the moly coated bullets was not as bad as I thought. Hoppes no 9 didn't work as good as some of the new Break Free bore blaster stuff to get the residual moly out, however. Then went with a new Amzoil coating lubricant over the BCG will be interested to see how that works.

    Grilling

Nice job Shepp. Never tried smoking a Lake Michigan laker but have done a lot of Lake Superior ones. Your friend might be right as far as regular grilling because of their alewife and goby diet in Michigan, but smoking is a lot more forgiving as to the fish. You ever want to see a mess try smoking a Lake Superior Siscowet Laker from deep water, or "Fats". Siscowet is Ojibwa for the fish that cooks itself. They are 80% fat by weight. You end up with a fiveq alarm fire in your smoker. And no they don't taste good.q
  5. Does this qualify as "Assault with a friendly weapon"?
  6. Probably not. I got them during the craziness two years ago for $14.99/20, so I bought them since nothing else was available. They are as accurate as advertised. Now I gotta clean the rifle!
  7. Son came back in town last night, so the two of us hit the range today.. Went through 100 5.56,100 7.62x39, 100 45 acp, and 100 7.62x51. Forgot my cell phone and his was dead, so no pics unfortunately. Did try moly coated 168 grain BT from HSM in 7.62x51, and they impressed me with their accuracy. Even better, my sons groups were better than mine. Any Dads out there know that is better than doing it yourself, to see them able to hit what they aim at. All in all, a very nice, if expensive afternoon.
  8. It's official: None of us have any redeeming moral or intellectual value. Funny captions though.
  9. "Your AR10 is backordered 2 years".
  10. Ignore this, didnt see you got it fixed. Had that happen once, still don't know why. If there is enough space, slip a flat blade screwdriver into the gap through the ejection port and see if you can catch the front corner of the BCG with the blade edge and genltly pull back on it to eject the brass. If it is the same issue I had, the BCG should come back. Good luck with it.
  11. Vaya Con Dios Micro. Didn't know you except through the forum, but respected your thoughts and opinions.

    Sons of Liberty

This means a trip to Wally World to pick it up. With a little luck they will have some of that Turkish ZQ1 7.62x51 in stock as well. HBO's John Adams miniseries a few years ago was pretty decent as well. Brings back the concepts this country was founded on.
  15. Tell me, my FFL guy can't find an FXN45-Tactical for me to buy. All five wholesalers he uses are backordered on them.

    Grilling

Simple brine. I cup of salt per 2 gallons of water, i tablespoon of pepper per gallon of water, and a whole mess of bay leaves. Got a new Grillin King Akorn and a charcoal tower smoker. Put four shoulders in the tower smoker, and 2 in the Akorn. The Akorn is similar to a big green egg but lighter and cheaper. It uses insulated twin wall steel instead of ceramic. See the picture. We do it for the wifes birthday every 10 years. My birthday is during deer season, so we can't do it then.

    Grilling

Wife's birthday party July 3, had a live band and 150 people. I brined them for 24 hours, then slow smoked 6 of these pork shoulders on my two smokers for 13 hours. When I cleaned up after the party, I had enough left for two small sandwiches. Guess I gotta do it again for myself! Band rocked! My legs have hurt for three days.
  18. Pat thanks for doing this and sharing your knowledge. This is going to help all of us a lot.
  19. Had family from Idaho visit us all last week. They were glad they were in 57 degree weather on Lake Superior instead of 107 in Bayview and Post Falls Idaho. Unfortunately some of them got back just in time to get evacuated by that fire in Bayview. Fortunately missed their house as of today. We had a high of 82 last week and a low of 47. And a bunch of rain today. I couldn't handle 107 with any regularity. Give me my cold breezes off the Lake.
  20. Pat see my PM dibs on both field replacement kits.
  21. Pat, still got that bad ass Victory?
