  1. Sorry to here you didn't fill it man. My son called last night from Duluth, he has had a big black bear tipping over his garbage can every night for three straight days! If I could get a Minnesota liscence and put a blind on the storage shed?? Just have to pay a fine for discharging a firearm in the city limits, as well as doing so at night. Naw, I don't want to see the inside of the St. Louis County jail.
  2. Fact is, you want to shoot exclusively 1,000 yards for accuracy, don't get a 308 AR. There are better choices in caliber AND platform. Can it be done? Yes but not as well as the better choices. We are talking apples versus oranges. A better discussion would be what is the best 308 AR at 800-1000 yards. Then we would be all on the same page.
  3. For such a big animal they can be damn quiet. Rule of thumb for an average tourist: For every one you see, ten avoided you. As far as size, big ones are few and far between. If they weren't there wouldn't be many young ones, as the big males generally kill any male cubs they run into. Somehow they realize they will become breeding competition. With the advent of deer baiting in Wisconsin, bears are getting larger and staying out of hibernation longer to take advantage of the free food. Plus they harvest an incredible number of deer fawns in the spring. Between the winter, bear and coyotes, with some help from the wolves, our deer herd up here is in bad shape. I am skipping deer season this year to do my share to give the herd a little break.
  4. I am not much of a builder, so I went the Armalite path. Quality and warranty are outstanding. If I was going to do a build from scratch, I would probably go the DPMS route, simply because there are a lot more aftermarket parts out there. Either one will work. Question for the more knowledgeable builders: Can you get Armalite uppers and lowers for a build for the "A" model so it is P-Mag compatible? Or are you limited to the "B" model in regards to a build?I honestly don't know.
  5. That reservation has some big bears. Plus the Ojibwa members of the Bear Lodge, of which there are quite a few on the Bad River Reservation, do not hunt black bears, so your odds are better. hope you get one. Fishing is slow right now anyway.
  6. Excellent addition fARkle, just excellent.
  7. Congrats to your Dad, looking forward to see how you do.
  8. Armalite has a great service department, and if it is new, a limited lifetime warranty. Use it if you can.
  9. Was this a used or new rifle?

    Which Geissele?

It has to be better than the old Colt trigger(pre ban) that is like a chisel hitting against stone.

    Which Geissele?

Just ordered a G2S for an old AR15 I have, What differences do you see between that and the SSA?
  12. This is the way to do it in 'Murica! Can't say much for his firearm safety though, especially when he points it towards the house. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=CUmX3CGl3sc
  13. Next to Mom, Apple Pie and the Stars and Stripes, what is more American than trying to get a deal on ammo magazines? Even though I love Armalite magazines, and do not understand why people would rather have PMAgs,(although I have them for my 5.56's). It is just second nature to try to find something just as good only cheaper. I just haven't found it yet.
  14. Its more fun and frustrating to try to follow the twists and turns that every thread takes on this forum. The scary part is I am starting to understand them.
  15. That is getting real close to Unicorn status.
  16. There is a market if someone will produce an aftermarket B magazine that is reliable. For some reason Magpul has shied away from it.
  17. That was my first thought. Transonic will only make a difference at the longer ranges. Second, stay away from coffee, mountain dew, and other caffeinated drinks on range day. It sounds stupid, but it helps. Third, are you practicing breathing control when you shoot? If you can borrow a lead sled, try it with that. The idea is to remove every variable and see if you are still getting that spread after the first shot. Also, try shooting the first shot off the target, and then see if you are still getting the spread with the next four or five.
  18. Ooooh! You got me on that one. Have a couple of former altar boys I need to tell that to.

  20. The only lower recievers I have ever seen for sale by Armalite are B models that use their Gen 2 proprietary magazines, not the A models that use PMags and DPMS type mags. The A models I believe are only sold in complete rifles. I don't know about other possible aftermarket manufacturers, maybe someone with that knowledge can weigh in on this thread.
  21. Well if the Desert Eagle got any bigger, it could use the same holster as a Browning M1917 water cooled machine gun. SERIOUSLY, I don't see how, and I really don't see a need, unless it was a machine pistol.
  22. As an Armalite owner, I can testify Armalites are outstanding rifles. That being said, if you are doing a build rather than a complete rifle purchase, right now there are more options with a DPMS pattern. You can get aftermarket parts for Armalite, it just takes a little more hunting, and it is often complicated by a vendor calling them "AR10" parts, which is an Armalite trademark, when in fact they are DPMS LR308 parts.
  23. I really don't know who impressed me more, this veterans shooting skills at 86, or the class of the Army Marksmanship Unit and its representatives in honoring him in such a great way. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/wwii-veteran-sniper-makes-shot-will-leave-speechless/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=WOS%2BDaily&utm_campaign=WOS_newsletter_8.2%20-%20wos%20main%20suppress%20%20OH
  24. Robocop, check these guys out http://www.eodusa.com/AR-308-GEAR_c344.htm
  25. Reloading is therapy for me. Plus the pure enjoyment of crafting the best possible round I can for my rifles. Eventually I will have to go with a progressive, just because those AR's have a heck of an appetite, but no better satisfaction then shooting a sub MOA group with your own creation.
