  1. jeez I wonder how low an RPM it hits that 900 mark.
  2. that would be a fun one. Actually any straight walled rifle cartridge would be interesting and easy as crap to reload rapidly :D
  3. So you know i'm both a big supporter of our vets, and of dogs as well. But... If the dog was being difficult in any way, the owner does have the right to ask them to leave. Now the things that he said made me think he's just a douche, but there's a chance that the dog was too energetic or spastic that day, particularly if the vet was having a bad day. Other funny thing is that there is 0 requirement in the americans with disability act for the dog to be certified or for you to carry any sort of paperwork with you showing they are a service dog. you can just say "he's a service dog" and if the dog isn't a pain in the ass, there isn't anything a business owner is supposed to be able to do. I support the charity Battle Buddy, you guys may want to check it out http://kennys.battle-buddy.org/ they help provide service dogs for vets with PTSD. Really great idea
  4. well, lets say any other higher power calibers like maybe the 338 federal. doesn't have to be super exotic
  5. So if I'm wanting to be something extra exotic on a DPMS LR308 platform, what other choices are vaguely reasonable?
  6. Yeah, its definitely hard to tell exactly what California's laws are, as they are stricter than federal. it may be a requirement in CA to have a serial number and manufacturer engraving even on self - made firearms.
  7. you'll have to be specific as to what state you live in, that requires you to register a firearm. The ATF explicitly allows you to build firearms yourself so long as they are compliant with the NFA laws - no full auto or open bolt, barrel length at least ___, overall length at least ___, etc. There isn't even a requirement for a serial number on a self built firearm, although its suggested.
  8. brings back memories of my youth, and some of the action I got in the back of a caprice wagon ;)
  9. pm me order #s and i'll check in on them
  10. I'm thinking screw a boat, shove that into a tubbed 85 Chevy Caprice
  11. darn you beat me to it :D
  12. You gotta hunt those damn things with a spear or a knife, no guns allowed. What are the odds of me doing that? :D I'll admit, you can make some really good chili from the tail pieces, and although there isn't a lot of meat on them, smoked gator ribs are amazing.
  13. Welcome from FL. And the troy MRF308 and TRX308 are both available in either height, but only the MRF is available in FDE, they both are available black.
  14. does anyone else think that you should break down the 3 parts that are 308 specific and have those and the ar15 versions separate from the rest of the LPK? that way you don't have to have separate full LPKs for the 2 variations.
  15. I've worn a t-shirt and shorts to talk to a recruiter about a 6 figure job (ok, just barely 6 figures but still :D). But that's because I honestly just don't care anymore, i'm stable and solid where I am, and i'm going to be comfortable. Ask me to go to an interview in a suit? i'll pass, thanks even though I have a few.
  16. I'm deeply pondering the swarovski 3.5-18 scopes right now, as that seems to be the lowest base magnification that will still have a max of 1000 yards
  17. i'll admit, I have a soft spot for this one, as its the side cocking model http://www.fulton-armory.com/fariflecal556mmupruniversalprecisionrifle-3-4-2-1-1-2-1-2-2-1-4-2-5-3.aspx
  18. welcome!

    Grilling

we've lately been doing pressure cooker pulled pork + chicken. Not quite as nice as grilling or smoking, but it is pretty fast and turns out nice.

hmm I could use one of those
  21. welcome from florida! and a 308 AR and "budget" don't belong in the same sentence. if you are persistent and careful you might be able to put one together for a bit under $1500, but not a whole lot less. just in the major components lower - 300 upper - 200 barrel - 250 BCG - 250 you're at 1000. then stock, parts kit, handguards, etc can easily be any amount at all and the buffer tube is 308 specific as well.
  22. small update on this. for a change we ended up with lanes next to each other at the range, and damn, being on the left or right of the 308 with that Nordic corvette on it is WAY louder than being behind it. you get a freakin shock wave with every shot :D
  23. perpetually banging my head against a wall, but only because I've overdone it on part time jobs. full time job doing software development plus data warehouse consulting that has been busier than usual lately, then a content and newsletter management part time for a bodybuilding website and then now doing some marketing and customer service and other stuff for Shadow Ops Weaponry. I've got more job than time.
  24. yeah but I don't care about sound level :D for recoil reduction, it had decent effect
  25. I've got one of these, plus a Mako Gl Shock, and my recoil is lower on my 308 than on my 223 bolt action sniper rifle. Not sure about how much it reduces sound though honestly http://www.midwayusa.com/product/734627/nordic-components-corvette-compensator-muzzle-brake-5-8-24-thread-ar-10-lr-308-stainless-steel
