  1. this as well is real (and really goddamn expensive, and probably really goddamn heavy)
  2. yeah, I was expecting that. What I really need is a decent spotting scope + tripod, so I don't have the "I think you're a little high and to the left, but maybe just to the left" from my spotter.
  3. it shoots better than I do. I'm still jerking around with trying to get scope + sights zeroed, and have just crappy binoculars to use so its not working out all that well. With them not being actually at point of aim in the scope, I was putting out 3 shot groups in the 2 inch range with garbage 145gr south african 1980s mil surplus ammo, so not exactly optimal ammo. I have some 168gr match ammo, but was saving that for once the rifle is broken in and everything at least basically zeroed.
  4. damn, well then 8 is ok before it being excessive :D
  5. The Rainier Select 20" is an 1:11 5 R as well
  6. I want to be clear that my saying 6 magazines is excessive has nothing to do with how many bullets each holds, just actually managing 6 mags on you without wearing a molle style plate carrier or something along those lines is a bit much.
  7. nah, thats not excessive at all. If you were carrying 6 spare 15rd mags, taht would probably seem excessive
  8. florida has nice beaches, and no stupid gun laws - I can hunt with a supressed AK47 and 100 round drums if I wanted to. And no income tax either :)
  9. Ah then it makes more sense but is sadder because its not just them being dumb. Pity. Once a year shouldn't be bad though :)
  10. I've got one too, still in the brownells baggie
  11. nice pics, that looks like a good time. Just to make my general comment on doctors orders + dietary guidelines, most doctors have no idea what they are talking about. What your average doctor uses as guidelines are what the American Heart Association shoves, which even though over 60 years old now has NO scientific evidence of lengthening lifespan. It may reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease, but funny enough people who eat that way end up just dying of other crap instead, with the same lifespan. The whole reasoning behind it in the first place was a horribly flawed study. It partially came from total cholesterol being the first blood lipid test that doctors came up with, and they saw that a lot of people who died from cardiovascular disease also had high cholesterol. But thats just correlation, not causality and yet they demonized cholesterol. The American Heart Association became such a big player $$ wise and politically that its impossible for reality to intrude into them. If you want to read a pretty interesting book that goes into the real research and explains the fallacy of most doctor recommendations on diet its http://www.amazon.com/Good-Calories-Bad-Controversial-Science/dp/1400033462/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369142310&sr=8-1&keywords=good+calories+bad+calories
  12. damn, you're over the hill (I'm 45)
  13. how pirates get created
  14. there are also a few people with the nickel boron coated BCGs but they run in the $350-380 range
  15. hmm yeah, interesting. I had bought one of the tactical link EBALs to use, but it doesn't fit given the shape of the DPMS upper's cutout. I hadn't poked around for reviews on those yet i may ask phase 5 about it on their facebook page, just to see what they think about that one review.
  16. Generally we grill (I've got the grilled piped into house gas, so I use it all the time anyhow here in FL), but I do have one thing I do thats a little unusual. Every year, I pull out a flag I have. I don't fly it, or even unfold it, but bring it out and talk with the kids about it. Its a flag that was flown over the Arizona in Pearl Harbor on memorial day. And then we talk a bit about pearl harbor, the military and wars. Its kind of funny, I didn't have any relatives who died there, but standing on the Arizona memorial each time i've been there has been some of the most emotionally moving moments in my life.
  17. for the LR308, right now its the LR20 model pmag. they are coming out with new ones, but I don't think they've started actually selling them yet. Dunno if thats really worth it, but it does seem like the only way to get the extended bolt release lever onto an LR308 pattern given the way the upper is made. that one has it built into the bolt latch mechanism instead of being an addon that clamps on.
  18. i've got one from harris tactical in my dpms pattern 308. This weekend I was having a few issues with jams with it, and when I disassembled + cleaned up the rifle (at the range mind you) there was some grit in the upper. Once that was gone it was flawless again. Hard to really say how well the coating holds up long term, or what real benefit it provides honestly.
  19. there is always this as well http://www.phase5tactical.com/products/308-dpms-type/extended-bolt-release-v2308-ebrv2308
  20. I was trying to be funny based on the volume of equipment you've built :D
  21. Depending on how long before you intend to actually shoot it, the answer on BCGs is likely "what you can actually find in stock"
  22. virtually no difference other than potentially a slight visual difference. They hand match the pairs to get the most even visual lines, but all of their uppers + lowers fit a fine tolerance either way functionally speaking. The one thing i'd check into though in cali is whether you are going to need to register the rifles, and whether you actually can register a lower alone vs a complete rifle. One of my friends there was trying to complete a few builds in time because from what he understood, the lower alone doesn't "count" as a firearm in the new california law, and you have to literally show the sherriff or whatever the law enforcement official is the complete gun. He chose to leave cali instead for texas :D

  24. whew, thats some work there getting them all :D The plus is, its not like I want them all up at once. With facebook pages its better to make sure you keep some constant flow of posts, a couple a day so I can do the hunting for them over time. I'm guessing I need to set up a separate album just for yours though ;)
