I'm checking with the company that is machining it to see if they can just do the engraving while its in production in the mill anyhow. If not, i'll definitely use one of these 2. The company making it is Shadow Ops Weaponry, and they make supressors too so have the experience on the goofy BATF nonsense :)
I guess I need to start hounding the AR15 boards for sale sections to look for the barrel cheap
I've got the fireclean. definitely works amazingly for cleaning, haven't actually gone and shot anything that I've used it on yet though. Maybe tonight i'll shoot the new 1911 that I did with that, because the FFL I need to go pick up my 308 lower from has an in house range :D
Oh yeah, i'm just looking at shorter than 16, I'd even go down to an 8. Just hoping to find a used, blemished, something like that to keep the cost low.
But unlike my 308, this one will be black not FDE :D
ahh, so best bet is to have the lower manufacturer of the lower engrave the info on for me, go ahead and build my upper but make sure I don't have a carbine buffer tube in the house, and I can build it with the pistol tube to shoot till I get the response.
Ok, so I understand that effectively buying an SBR is basically similar to buying a suppressor. But if you build one from parts how do you or do you still have to pay the ATF their $200 nanny tax and send in forms?
it is strange, particularly since I heard from a lot of Colorado people how fast the 223 pmags were reaching them. some had them by the end of the first week after magpul started
Well, its definitely going to be 16 or shorter. Even down to 10 would be ok. Mostly thinking 12 since I can free float a handguard full barrel length easily. This one is going to be just a "play" rifle, short range target and no other particular planned use. So i'd rather have it smaller/lighter as I'm not looking for extended accuracy
I could do it as a pistol as well rather than the carbine stock. I'm just trying to start early planning now, so I can work out getting parts as cheap as possible this time around :)
Pasco Gun Sports, on Rt 52 in Dade City FL, near the Dade City Rod + Gun Club. Always really friendly and helpful (at least pre-Newtown, haven't been in a while). One day I had brought my daughter and one of her friends along with me to go to the range and I usually stop in there. They were looking at the case of pocket knives and the owner told them to go ahead and pick any one they wanted from the bottom shelf for free.
Yeah, my question was more in reference to the carbon fiber barrel. I'd think that if you are an under 1000 rounds a year shooter, how long it lasts vs steel would be almost no difference. If you shoot 1000 a month, that might matter
hmm the bcm ones aren't too bad a price. I remember someone talking about picking up some at around $175, but I can't remember who it was that said that
Blemish, used, whatever is ok. I'm not in a rush, but I figured i'd throw this out there in case someone runs across something. going to build it as a short carbine.
