  1. Cock and lock it is, then!
  2. That's certainly what their lawyers want the manual to say--I'm more concerned about practical aspects of safety and simplicity of use.
  3. The hammer will ony go in the down position if the safety is off. That means, if you carry with the hammer down, pulling the hammer back means automatically that the safety is already off and you're good to go. So, carrying with the hammer down would mean you'd just have to remember to pull the hammer back to use the pistol. Carrying cocked and locked means, you just have to remember to take the safety off to use the weapon. That means, you have to remember to do one thing -- your choice, depending on how you carry -- either jack the hammer or release the safety. One or the other. I suppose I could go hard-core and say but there's also a grip safety, what the hell, and go cocked and unlocked, but that's not very appealing for several reasons, one of them being I'm amazed that hammerless safetyless items like Glocks are even around.
  4. Forgive my ignorance, but what's the point of grinding the flower off? Does it look unmanly or something?
  5. Okay so I thought real hard and considered the comments here, and got a Browning 1911-22. The seller told me the only safe way to carry it was 'cocked and locked', i.e., the hammer back and the safety on. According to him, when the hammer is down, it rests directly on the pin, and if the pistol is dropped and it lands on the hammer, the pistol will fire. According to the owner's manual, the only safe way to carry the pistol is with the hammer down. It explains that the hammer will be resting against the pin, but that the pin will not be touching the rim of the cartridge (this is a rimfire pistol). Now I'll be carrying this either one way, or the other way. Just one way, so that I can develop a habit of use I can fall back on when needed, without having to diddle and fiddle. So which way really is the way to carry? Cocked and locked, or hammer down? In either case, there will be a round up the spout ready to go. Thanks!
  6. In this neck of the woods we have one (1) DNR agent, and he covers five (5) counties. You have to do a lot to get his attention. He has an answering machine on his phone and will respond to a report of poaching in about four (4) months. I had a real problem with poachers, too.
  7. The article doesn't have a date so it could be from years ago. And sure enough it is. The bill is dated 4/28/2010 and it failed to pass pursuant to Senate Joint Resolution 1. Gotta wonder why John Birch doesn't put dates on its "news".
  8. looks like a rubber gun what's up wit that
  9. If they weren't so chock full of bones I'd eat'em three times a week. But smoked, they're a delicacy that beats caviar.
  10. If next season is like this one I just might to a home-made biathlon.
  11. Where's global warming when you need some of that?
  12. How much longer before there are laws regarding the storage of ammunition and mandatory inspection of home ammo dumps?
  13. I've heard Kel-Tec and Hi-Point are ghetto guns.
  14. I imagine Vulcan .50's are selling pretty cheap right now, if they're selling at all.
  15. Is it just me, or does it look like the strap-on riser would interfere with the charging handle?
  16. Something about the Noveske makes it look like it's less likely to snag on stuff, which could be a plus.
  17. Looks just like the grip on my DPMS.
  18. Friends, I have a DPMS LR-308T with the standard A2 buttstock. Between the buttstock and the receiver I have a "plate" with a hole drilled in it for my rear sling mounting point. To make up for the thickness of the sling mounting plate I had to add a spacer inside the buttstock that sits at the end of the buffer tube and just under the rear mounting screw -- and it took a slightly longer mounting screw, all of this to make up for the fact that this setup makes the buttstock about 3/8" longer than stock. Which I'm fine with Now that I have sights mounted on the rifle that I like, I find I'm not getting a decent cheek weld, which makes it harder to acquire a good stable sight picture, so I need a cheek riser. All I've been able to find that would give me an adjustable cheek riser is the Star Wars-style adjustable stock from MagPul. As far as you know, is that my only option to get an adjustable cheek riser on this rifle? I'm not feeling the need to adjust length of pull. I'm also concerned that a cheek riser could interfere with the charging handle. If I have to get that pricey MagPul item, I'll have to worry if I can keep the sling mounting plate. I like it. Thanks for your thoughts!
  19. Have you noticed a weight difference?
  20. If you ask DPMS customer service about that, like I did, they will tell you that "you're over-thinking things."
  21. I've heard that survivalists will buy any ammo they can find, the idea being that they can trade ammo for food and toilet paper when money is obsolete.
  22. Is there a real and valid reason to have a grip safety when you have a safety selector switch? It's not like I'll let children play with it.
  23. you'd have to put some salve on all those rock scratches and massage out all those muscle strains. And clean her fingernails. Can she cook?
  24. This thing shoots rebar. It's a total beotch to cock and will take your shoulder off dry-fire. Shoots smoother with rebar though. trajectory is flat, use some duct tape for "feathers". Good to 100 yards although I wouldn't want to take one at 200 yards. It's a serious shooter.
  25. Maybe my problem is I've never had a pistol with a grip safety. Seems weird to me, especially since I'm not used to things going bang unless I just pull on the trigger. A grip safety seems like a child safety seat or something.
