I wonder if "Over Weight" is simply a state of mind? I'm 5'-6", weigh in at a whoppin' 165 (30# heaver than when I retired from the USN), I'm 62 years old, and I feel FAT! After my wife was diagnosed with stage 2 Diabetes last month I started back on my (sympathy) exercise program to drop 20# and it is some kinda tough! Maybe 165 isn't too bad after all!

Well, I had jist got home frum Bubba's Genril Store, Lunch, and Live Bait Emporium when I heered Maw holler at Paw that the out house wuz broke. Now that ain't a reel hardship fer me an Paw but Maw, well, truth be knowed, she's a city girl and gits a mite perterbed when thangs don't go ta suit er. Paw wuz bizy runnin up a batch uv mash but I rekon he figgered he'd as best git it fixed fore Maw got reel perturbed. Some bit later I heered Paw holler that there wern't nuthin wrong wit the out house but Maw, she jist hollered bak that he wern't lookin close nuff an ta look under the seat. Paw hollered back that there wern't nuthin wrong wit the seat and Maw (who wuz beginnin ta sound a bit peeved) told im ta stick his head down in the hole and look at the bottom uv the seat. Paw took some exception to that but since Maw wern't in no good mood, I rekon he figered it wuz his dooty ta git ta the bottom uv the problem (so ta speek). Wern't but jist a bit fore I heered Paw jist a howlin, he wuz a cussin an a fussin an hollerin fer help! He hollered at Maw and said "Maw, come an hep me, I dun got my beard stuck in the cracks in the seat!" Maw jist hollered bak "HURTS DON'T IT!". Paw's workin on a new seat.

I travel all over the Eastern half of the US for a living (at least until the end of the year when I will become OFFICALLY RETIRED!) and stop in every out of the way gun shop I see. I haven't had any real trouble finding anything I've needed (powder, primers, cases, bullets in many calibers, and .22 LR). The big box stores don't have it but the little guys often have a couple of dozen boxes lying about. I bought a couple of boxes of Remington .22LR last weekend at the local True Value Hardware store, he had a two box limit but had probably 50 boxes on the shelf at $2.99 per 50 round box. I think one of the "side issue" reasons .22 is hard to find is the proliferation of .22LR "AR look-a-likes" and AR .22 caliber conversion kits. The fact that it is easy to hide or carry a 1,000 rounds of .22 is also a selling point for survivalists and autoloading .22s (Ruger 10-22, Savage, Marlin, etc.) are going like hotcakes. Just my humble opinion. ::)

Counted up on all my fangers and toes, throwed in my belly button, both ears, and started on my whiskers afore them whuffers stopped a comin out. Who La Wee, I dint have no ideer theres that many round. I figgered I might maybe outta call them Guvmint Gamy Wardens afore I cominced ta blastin away since it wuz nite time an they seem ta take a reel dim view uv blazin away at nite. Well, turned out wuz a good thang I did, Y'all ain't gonna beleve this but they said I had ta have a Lisense ta shoot them whuffers at nite! Cain't hardly beleve that, I ain't never needed no Lisense bufore! Well they give me that Lisense and said I culd shoot, strangle, trap, stab, poke, or blast em any ole way an at any ole time. Hot Dog! I got permission ta do whut I wuz gonna do any way, ain't Guvmint great! Well jest about two glasses uv Sprang Water later, bout the time I culdn't see reel strate, wun uv them Guvmint boys come by an said ifn I wuz ta start blastin them piggys (which by this time had wandered off back into the woods) they wood git smart an move on to sumbody elses place an I wuldn't git ta blast em. He said I shuld bild up a big ole trap and catch a bunch all at once. I figgered thatud be a good thang cause I culd shoot um up close an personel stead uv takin a chance uv missin one. Th only problem wuz, he dint tell me how to build a big enuf trap to catch em all. Y'all got any suggestions? I'll be a sittin here a ponderin the problem an sippin nuther glass. Y'all come on over when ya can set a spell.

I own and have read almost every book RAH ever wrote (we have something over 6,000 volumes in our home library). I almost every case he pushes the ideas of (1) know yourself and govern yourself, (2) individualism can and will be crushed if government is given a free reign, and (3) it is up to the citizen to limit that evil. Read this thread and was amazed at the variety of non-weapons related interests! I spend as much time on the track as I can both as a driver and as an Instructor (SCCA) (sorry WWLEFTY, not many straight lines where I play but we're seeing more diesels). When I'm not on the track, I'm in the shop building Custom Furniture and small one-man fishing boats. Unfortunately, for the past three years I've been building a new house so I haven't had a lot of time to do anything else at all!

Well, there I wuz, down in the back 40 gittin ready to try out my bran new muzzle brakin thang (y'all know bout them thangs but it wuz new to me) when i re-lized I ain't got no cotton to stuff in my ears. I figgered, whut the heck, can't be no louder than them sticks of 40% we fish with. So I git the gun all laid out on the stump and pick out that there piece a papper I stuck in the log end out yonder, I takes a big ole deep breath, blows out most uv it (cause I dint know whut I needed it all fer) an squeezed down on the trigger ... GEE HAW WHIMMYDIDDLE! ... Who wee, I can't hear nothin' but the Church bells a ringin an I figgered I wuz deff as a post. Figgered I wuz probly best off goin back up to Maw and gittin some cotton afore I tried that again (an maybe a drink uv "sprang water" whilst I wuz there to ease off the pain). Well, she give me whut fer fer bein pure stupid an bone headed, an a cupple other thangs I didn't hear reel well an then she give me sum plastic ear muffs. Well, them thangs looked purty funny an they sure clamped down on the noise but I had a reel problem with them thangs bouncin off ever time I shot but anyway they wuz better than them bells a ringin. Cupple days later on, Maw called me in an she talked sum more about my ancestory, my lack uv edecasion and upbringin, and some unsavory habits I didn't know she knowed about, then she give me a couple uv whut she called Walker's Game Ears (I knowed she wuz funnin me cause I seen lots a ears on game and ain't none uv em looked like these thangs. In fact, they look a hole lot like whut ole Judge Purtle wears down at the jailhouse to help his hearin. I couldn't see how sumpthin what was supposed to hep my heerin could cut down on that there muzzle breakin blast but I figgered whut the heck, I'd give em a try (sides which, ifn I wuz stone cold deff, she couldn't pich a fit when I pertended I didn't hear her talkin to me) so I put em in and proceeded down to the stump agin ... Hot Diggity Dog, them thangs wurked! All I heered wuz a "Boink" when the gun went off even though I could heer them corduroy britches a zip zip zippin whilst I wuz a walkin. The only down side I kin see now is that Maw wants me to wear em all the time and says there ain't no scuse fer not heerin her holler!

Actually, I think the Politicians are afraid that law abiding citizens will come to Washington, DC and the State Capitals and give up their guns and ammo ... ONE ROUND AT A TIME!

Got out on the range today to work up a new load. Two rifles, LR-308 with 16" standard barrel and compensator, and a custom Mauser 24" light sporter also in .308. Identical loads using 168 gn Hornady BTHP Match over H-4895 ranging from 37.5 gn to 43.0 gn. The target on the left is the Mauser, the right is the LR 308. You can't see all of the rounds from the Mauser because the last three strung to 3" above the target. Obviously some of the variance was the load but I believe the stiffness of the 16" barrel was a big factor.

Viv, I recently picked up a factory DPMS LR 308 and started out with the same problem. Read the postings and saw the "dripping with oil" comments but couldn't (or wouldn't) believe it. Tried the Rem Oil, no joy, got a jug of Mobil 1 5w30 out of the trunk of the car, dumped it all over and in the action, slung out some all over the gun room floor and proceeded out to the range ... never had another issue. After about 50 rounds went back to Rem Oil and still working like a champ. Give it a try Robo & Dane are right, it has to be "sloshy wet".
