Rifle length barrel cut to 16"

So, I'll presume you'll now endorse the ZQI 7.62 x 51? Great to see you got it straightened out - I'll PM you when I'm planning my next run out to "A Place To Shoot" You might look into "HeavyBuffers.com" to tame that thing down a bit. http://heavybuffers.com/ar10carbine.html -
DPMS high, DPMS low or AR10? The Odin Works I bought for my DPMS type is available in 15-1/2": https://www.odinworks.com/308_KMod_Forends_p/f-15-km-308.htm I suggest contacting them directly to ensure the top rail height will match correctly - JSE has the DPMS low in stock for a good price: http://www.jsesurplus.com/odinworks155kmod308dpmsloforearm.aspx

Yea, it's amazing that they thought they could pull this one over on us - and got quite a black eye when called out on it! Now we've got this problem: Quote from Washington Examiner article: "Additionally, Rep. Israel is announcing legislation with Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) that would require the attorney general to modify the definition of armor-piercing ammunition to conform to the performance of the bullet."

This does not look good! Seemed the panic was starting to ease up and here comes round 2!!! http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/03/12/atf-raises-new-concerns-about-ar-15-ammo/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl1%7Csec3_lnk3%26pLid%3D627264 http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/its-back-dems-to-push-bullet-ban/article/2561494 Some commenters are speculating this could spread to any rifle round that can be fired from a "pistol" - from the looks of things it's hard to say where they will draw the line - ^^^you're absolutely right, we've gotta stop this before it go's any further!

Saltworks' website is up, the 308 upper & lower set @ $299. <thumbsup> is very tempting, rumor has it that model SWR-M6 is gonna be a 300 Win Mag :) https://www.saltworksrifles.com/default.asp https://www.saltworksrifles.com/SWR-M5-p/50001.htm

Wasn't able to get Tom from Odin Works on the phone but, I sent an email out to him with the you tube link to the Diamondback promo vid noting the 1:55 point where the upper receiver/handguard mismatch is noticable - I may give Diamondback Firearms a call monday for their thoughts and possible solution - I can't imagine customers will just accept this on a $2600.00+ rifle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbaXLIhZLF4#t=72

The link to Foicchi showing perfecta doesn't list the specific ammo that walmart is selling under the perfecta name, also the package clearly says "Tula". I'll ask one of the guys at my local walmart that is into shooting to try to get me some info on it.
-
Should be no problem with SI or Mega, I would expect the Aero would also be good to go but, to be on the safe side I would give them a call and try to get Tom Hines on the phone to confirm that they have checked out a representative example of the brand of upper in question - the nice thing about the Odin is the way they offset the hole for the barrel nut in their adapter thus in theory being able to make an adapter to compensate for variations in rail height. Edit: Just saw something very interesting, the Diamondback DB10 comes factory equipped with the Odin Keymod forearm and guess what? There is the same rail mismatch between the upper and the handguard/forearm meet (visible at the 1:55 point in the video) I'm gonna have to give them (Odin) a call today and see what's going on with this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbaXLIhZLF4#t=72

Rifle length barrel cut to 16"

@Modo, I see in the Calguns Salt Works 308 build and review thread : http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=1036853 that you have the new Salt Works 308 receiver set - how do you like it? I'm actually considering ordering the set since you can't beat the price not to mention that they look bad a$$ - you should post some pics for the guys here. I live in santa clarita but, I don't go to oaktree much, I prefer to go to "a place to shoot". My 308's are still "under construction" but, getting close - should be out plinking within the next month or so. Question, when your bolt locks open does the bolt carrier travel back far enough for the catch to engage with the bolt face or is it possibly catching on the forward edge of the carrier? -
In addition to the suggestions already listed, I'd be up for the same that palmetto has listed for the AR15 with the possible exception of the gas key screws: 2 Firing Pins 2 Firing Pin Retaining Pins 2 Gas Key Screws 6 Gas Rings 1 Extractor 1 Extractor Spring 1 O Ring 1 Extractor Spring Insert 1 Extractor Pin 1 Ejector 1 Ejector Roll Pin 1 Ejector Spring

I've only got one with me here at work (the one from arms unlimited) the measurement from the barrel centerline to pivot pin center is 1.006" from barrel centerline to bottom surface is .7495" - I'll try to measure the ares tonight (I have to remove the Samson rail and the barrel first) Thanks for the help in keeping me out of trouble <thumbsup>
-
Interestingly enough I've assembled the components including the barrel (held in with the special Samson DPMS thread barrel nut) to check the fit of everything and the bolt lugs engage nice and smooth, lock in to battery just fine, I can rack the charging handle and it doesn't bind or misbehave - the bolt carrier runs the hammer back properly, doesn't bind in the receiver extension, the gas tube is aligned well, perhaps it's simply a matter of the rail and top portion of the upper being .020" too low - I'm not sure how much room there is between the end of the charging handle (where it catches the bolt key) and the top of the bolt carrier? The "tongue" above the charging handle measures .205" thick and I've come up with a measurement of 1.3005" for the barrel centerline to the top surface of the rail on the upper receiver. (Tom from Odin indicated that this is .018"-.020" lower than the high profile uppers that they designed their handguards around.) I'll measure the distance of the barrel centerline to the pivot pin center and post it up tomorrow but, I'm strongly suspecting the discrepancy is simply in the rail portion of the upper
-
Update: The mismatch is caused by the barrel centerline being around .020" too high causing the handguard top rail to be .020" higher than the upper receiver rail. On top of that, I have 2 different uppers, 1 from Ares Armor (the one with the Samson rail mounted to) and the other one, bought together with another of it's kind by my employer - He needed an upper for his rifle and I showed him the listing on ares' site and asked him to order 2 cause I needed a second. Well, turns out he went hunting around on the internet and came across this: https://www.armsunlimited.com/AU-AR10-DPMS-LR-308-Stripped-Upper-Receiver-p/au-ar10-sur.htm Now, I know about their shady counterfeit parts reputation but, at first glance it looked to be a decent high profile upper, hmmmm - to make a long story short the ares upper also is a little high on the barrel centerline (around .008"-.012") but, the arms unlimited is far worse at around .020" - after quite a few phone calls to Odin Works I made the decision to fabricate an adapter at work on one of our Haas mills - to expect Odin to make me a one-off adapter to me seemed like asking a bit much! Tom up at Odin offered to send me a PDF print of the adapter so I could draw it up in Mastercam with the necessary modifications but, much to my surprise, instead of the print an email turned up in my inbox indicating that they were making a run of adapters and would make a special one for me with the threaded barrel nut hole and gas tube hole raised .020" the only condition was that he would have to send it to me "in the white" or as raw aluminum without anodizing. Well anodizing is no problem as I have a company I deal with on a daily basis that does plating for my employer and I can get miscellaneous stuff done as a favor! So, should finally have this thing functional in another couple of weeks!! Can't say enough good things about the great people over at Odin Works! <thumbsup> They really went the extra mile!

After being asked by a friend to look at this 308 pistol on atlantic firearms site, I noticed this quote from the ATF about shouldering it (with as they imply, a sig brace) http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/ptr-51p-pdw-308-pistol-atlantic-firearms-exclusive-2412-detail.html?Itemid=0 "For the following reasons, we have determined that firing a pistol from the shoulder would not cause the pistol to be reclassified as an SBR: The Firearms technology Branch classifies weapons based on their physical design characteristics. While the usage/functionality of the weapon does influence the intended design, it is not the sole criteria for determining the classification of a weapon. Generally speaking, we do not classify weapons based on how an individual uses a weapon." seem taking this at face value could get one in a bit of a jam

From what I'm seeing here this is rebranded or private labeled Tula and distributed Tula ammo that seems to be only available at walmart: This is the exact .223 that I bought 55 grain FMJ - the .308 is 147 grain FMJ - neither have magnetic projectiles
-
Another option that is less expensive is the DPMS model - JSE has a good price: http://www.jsesurplus.com/dpmsdetachablecarryhandlewitha2rearsightlr-308.aspx Nice looking build! <thumbsup>
-
I bought 8 or 10 boxes of the 308 last year when my local wallmart had it, also got some of the 5.56 now, all they seem to be stocking is the pistol ammo in 9mm, .40 and .45 - if I can ever get my 308AR project finished, I'll run some through it and let you guys know what I think.

There may be some hope! http://www.newsmax.com/US/bob-goodlatte-letter-barack-obama-rifle/2015/02/26/id/627201/

Something like this kit that Palmetto offers for AR-15's would be great! http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/upper-parts/repair-kits/complete-bolt-repair-kit.html
-
Thanks for your thoughts on the subject of bolt materials, I started a thread on the subject some time ago but it didn't result in any definite answers from a metallurgical perspective - on another note I noticed some references to a 9mm AR BCG on your site and am shopping for one, are you offering them? also I would be interested in some repair/service parts for bolts/BCG's Thanks again

I know it's been a couple of months and the OP found a remedy to the problem but I just ran across the precautionary notice I was looking for regarding the bolt stuck in the carrier condition: http://www.surplusammo.com/saa-complete-308-bolt-carrier-group-nickel-boron/ it's the only vendor that I've seen acknowledge the possibility of that happening but, I've seen it happen with other brands, you just have to be careful during assembly.

Not 100% sure but, I think just receivers at this time - I do like the design <thumbsup>
