While following up on the Shadow Ops BCG I ordered quite some time ago (and still waiting for) I came across this: http://shadowopsweaponry.com/products/278-308-caliber-762-x-51-bolt-carrier-group.aspx 8620 Carrier with a Carpenter 158 Bolt, Nickel Boron coated, with Notches/Serrations for the F/A on Aero and Palmetto type uppers - Nice but a bit Pricey, Hopefully their lead time doesn't get too far out - looks like they're accepting pre-orders and they will be "available" in 60 days

Another Victory for California!

We haven't done so well on the "Ghost Gun" bill SB 808 either, it was approved by both houses and is now in the hands of Governor Brown :sad3: -
Awesome News - SB 53 was Defeated last night! Looks like it was a close race, the vote in the senate was 35/35! If this had made it to law, it would have made obtaining ammo a pain in the a$$ and created a database so the DOJ would know who bought what.

Contagious isn't it? <thumbsup>

Aero Precision M5 upper and lower... .308 receivers

Ahhhh, Good to know, I've called 3 times in the past 2 weeks and all 3 times hit their voice mail and left messages - still haven't gotten a call back Thanks for the update, I'm kinda on the fence on this deal! -
Aero Precision M5 upper and lower... .308 receivers
guruofhotrod replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
At this point, I'm thinking that rather than creating all this confusion by including a feature on a "DPMS" type upper that won't work with the majority of (if not all) DPMS type BCG's, they should have just made it a "slick sided" upper. -

guruofhotrod replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
Yes, the DPMS type .308's that have a F/A provision use the standard AR 15 F/A assembly The 308 charging handle is very similar to the AR 15 charging handle but, it is a bit longer to accommodate the larger bolt carrier and receiver's additional travel to cycle the longer .308 rounds. Above, in post #27 I placed a link to the revised Aero .308 BCG web page and it provides 4 pics very clearly showing a typical DPMS type BCG with no notches/serrations for the F/A I'm considering buying one of these but I'd like to know how the Aero engineers intend for their F/A configuration (That I'll probably never need to use!) to function. Thanks to everyone for their help -

A quick peek at Armalite's website confirmed that they do in fact have serrations for the F/A : http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=10501001&ReturnUrl=Categories2.aspx?Category=d4a8754c-1a38-4412-b9d3-33699f13666c is it possible to use a Armalite BCG in an otherwise DPMS type rifle? wondering if the bolt would properly engage in the DPMS type barrel extension? perhaps it would also require an Armalite style barrel? -

Thanks, I completely agree, and have not yet seen a 308 BCG that is notched for a F/A - this sounds like it's gonna get interesting??? Looks like Aero has updated their listing for the 308 BCG they offer and guess what, no serrations : http://aeroprecisionusa.com/spare-parts/aero-precision-complete-308-bolt-carrier-group.html -

Yea, ya got a good point there, and I do like Ruger! What caught my attention with the Mossberg was the thought that it might take SR25 type mags (not sure) -
DPMS BCG from Midway showed up today! Gettin' close to completion! <thumbsup>

Aero Precision M5 upper and lower... .308 receivers
guruofhotrod replied to 98Z5V's topic in Firearm Industry News and Gossip
See post #19, compare the pic of the SI upper with the one of the Aero - it doesn't look like the forward assist is in the correct location on the Aero to catch on the typical 308 bolt carrier (unless the bolt/round was almost at the bolt catch and then it wouldn't travel far enough forward to get it into battery) it just doesn't look right? I don't think it's a simple matter of them using a pic of an AR15 upper by mistake since in the listing at SAA it shows the "T" marks going all the way up to T-18 and most AR15 uppers I've seen only go up to T-12 http://www.surplusammo.com/aero-precision-m5-308-stripped-flat-top-t-marked-upper-receiver/ -

Hmm, just opened that BCG page in Internet Explorer and saw the "tab" that says "AR15 Bolt Carrier Group" If you look at the actual url it says 308 and it also refers to it as a 308 BCG in 3 different locations on the page but, I certainly agree that it is an AR15 BCG the lack of a step down on the diameter of the body and the way the cam pin is clocked are dead giveaways OK, that's what came up when I selected the 308 BCG on their site and I was hoping they hadn't made a special carrier for their upper - I'm still trying to get the story on the upper, that forward assist has me kinda stumped, could it be that they did the same thing with the upper pic that they did with the BCG pic? I called them this afternoon but couldn't get ahold of anyone and had to leave a message, hopefully they'll return my call monday. See the differences between the Aero and the typical DPMS 308 (I used SI's for an example): -
Couldn't resist, the deal is too good to pass up - got 1 more AR10 model and a CQB AR15 model - the deal is still on for a bit longer (I think till the end of July) Awesome charging handle from a great company!! And a smokin deal to boot!

Nice!, took a quick look at the link at the start of this thread and saw this .308 version of the predator (also interesting!) oh man, I've gotta get my build(s) done first but.... http://www.mossberg.com/product/rifles-bolt-action-centerfire-mvp-series-mvp-predator-mvp-predator-20-sporter-barrel-scope-1?u_field_prod_caliber=7.62mm+NATO+%28.308+WIN%29@595&nodeRef=3825,3827,3943&redirect=1&lastnode=1&filterNodes=3943
