I have bought two barrels in the last few months, one .308 and one .223, both from Faxon. I cleaned both before installing and there was some oil but little gunk or dirt present (even though the .308 barrel package had been opened somewhere in transit). If there was I would have been concerned as to where that barrel had been before it got to me.
There is an excellent video (series) by Fringe Sniper on building an AR 308 - YouTube. Watching that was like reading a number of books. After that you can search theis board and find virtually everything you need. https://www.youtube.com/user/FringeSniper
Some of the experts will chime in with great information but basically an AR-10 is made by Armalite while AR308s are based on a DPMS model. There are far more options on the DPMS platform but unlike the AR-15 a standard specification ensuring all manufacturers parts fit together does not exist. I suggest you read through the posts on builds to get started. In my case I built on the DPMS patterns with Spikes Tactical receivers, a Faxon barrel, MechArmor trigger and charging handle and an AIM BCG.
Welcome to the forum from the border. I have a Faxon 18" barrel on my 308AR and it is very accurate and one of the lightest 18" barrels on the market. I wouldn't think you would need 20" if you are only going out 600 yards. A 16" or 18" would be more than adequate.
OK, got the trigger in two days and installed it last night. The roll pins were a real bear to get out, but after that it only took about 15 minutes. Interestingly the trigger will work with either left or right handed models but the installation instruction pictures are for the right handed model so if you shoot a left handed model like I do just recognize the situation (it is pretty obvious since the key piece is backwards). It really feels nice, much like the MechArmor trigger but at 2.5 lbs. it is even lighter. The only concern is that the safety selector is a bit still but seems to be working out as I exercise it. Looking at potential hunting leases this weekend so I probably won't get to the range until next weekend but I am really looking forward to trying it out. Thanks again for the report.
Cleaned in One Shot Sonic Cleaner, Frankford Armory Tumbler and SS pins. Came out looking brand new, better than the remanufactured ammo I got from Freedom Munitions. If my spray lube or the One Shot cleaner are different from what you used it may explain the difference. Another possibility might be a variation in water chemistry from load to load. When we lived in Florida (Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando) there was little consistency in tap water. It is also generally bad here but I don't waste our distilled water cleaning cases.
I have a couple hundred .223 cases that I have deprimed, sized and trimmed that still have the Hornady One Shot lube on them. I will run them through the SS tumbler tonight without any prewash and see how hey come out.
Don't get me wrong, I think Repubs are socialists while the Dems are commies so its not a support the GOP thing. Given that, we still have to live with the results of elections so the lesser of two evils is often the best we can expect without going to the mats.
There are locations where Obama received 100% of the vote so election fraud does occur; however, not voting, or voting for third party candidates that have no chance does not help since it makes overcoming commie fraud that much more difficult.
Thanks for the report. I am considering replacing the trigger on my Ruger American 30.06 since they now have the 641C. I have adjusted the stock trigger and it is light but has quite a bit of travel. The MechArmor trigger in the AR308 has spoiled me terribly.
I would be more concerned with the nightly propaganda on NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, MSNBC, CNN, and FOX, and the effects of that propaganda on the sheep that vote for the idiots on city councils, state legislatures and Congress.
