Howdy from the Texas side of the borders. Part of the fun in building AR308s, particularly 80% lowers, is using your mill, dremel, and measuring tools to achieve a functioning rifle. After a while, you will learn that if you decide on a caliber you want to build and then a barrel, you can get your barrel and your 80% lower first. Since your barrel will be either DPMS or Armalite pattern you can then order your upper. With the lower in hand you can measure what length you need for your pins and shop until you find the correct length. I stopped getting lower kits and have gone to buying the pieces individually after doing a couple of 80% lowers from different manufacturers since some need extended magazine release buttons, slightly different pin sizes, different bolt catches, etc. Since I have been going with upgraded triggers I don't want those in a kit. Since I know whether my barrel will be DPMS or Armalite I can decide on a BCG, and with my upper I can measure the tang to get the correct height on the handguard. The mill and dremel help make everything fit together. Then you can start with standard buffer setups and change out springs and buffers when you start testing. You can be like SS and not use adjustable gas blocks or like me and always use adjustable gas blocks and use different methods to tune the rifle. If your barrel is a mid-length or rifle length you will need to determine whether you need Armalite or DPMS gas tubes. Finally you can choose a stock, brake and optics to complete the build, or if they ever pass the hearing protection act acquire or make a noise reduction device (I won't wait a year to get a stupid piece of paper from a useless government agency). Perhaps it is because I am an engineer, but the process is FUN.

This is all window dressing. The aim is control, which can't be achieved because of the 2nd Amendment. Unfortunately there are simply too many idiot white folks who have been programmed to feel sorry for everyone who has not achieved anything and desperately want to help them, leading the nation toward the one world secular progressives who will eventually enslave us if we allow it.

Not pleased but might be jumping the "gun"

My Faxon mid-weight 18" barrel at 10:1 likes 165 to 175 grain projectiles - groups less than 1" at 100 yards just off a bag. With 147 grain factory ammunition I can't get any better than 2." A lot has to do with your barrel. With Slash's heavy buffer and a Miculek (sp) brake it doesn't have any more recoil than my AR 15s, which frankly feel like an old .22. -

Howdy from the Texas side of the borders. Spent a little time in Rome, Venice and Bologna, you are right about the food!

Thanks you. Excellent work!

Also, remember that the M5 is a DPMS high profile upper when you go to acquire a handguard. Since most handguards are low profile they will not match up with the M5. I know I had to do some searching to find something that fit my .338 Federal build that used an M5 upper.

Howdy from the Texas side of the borders and, oh, by the way, that is why they make mills and dremels!

I have seen SKS in several reports, along with a pistol that was apparently not used. They can't release the detail otherwise some smart ass (like any of us) will point out that it wasn't an assault weapon, just a semi-automatic. Sounds like he was a typical snowflake that couldn't shoot straight, lucky for those on the field.

I'm sure Terry will take one for Hillary and Bill.

By the weekend there will be none of us left!

Where has the one world secular progressive (communist or at least devoid of individual liberty) system been implemented without force? The answer is never. The large scale programming of our youth is designed to eliminate the interest in individual liberty and establish a dependence on the state, but in the end it will come down to an attempt to enforce their view on everyone. It is a lot like the old Fram oil filter commercial, pay me now or pay me later.
-
This is a result of the left wing, one world secular progressive, propaganda campaign that we experience daily through the MSM and our children experience in our government schools and universities. This is approaching the point where I will revise my position that we should address the threats to our country at the ballot box.

I just put one of these on my 6.5 Creedmoor build but haven't tested it as yet. The bypass mode is a bleed-off setting, if I remember correctly it is out past 4.5 turns, which is the full open setting. I am going to try that mode first as the Creedmoor is over gassed. If that doesn't work I'll go back inside 4.5 and it is supposed to turn the gas down like a normal adjustable block.

My old data for my 18" Faxon mid-weight barrel, 10:1, was 44.0 g of Varget under 175 Nosler BTHP with Winchester Large Rifle Primers. This gave slightly better results than 0.2 g in either direction. I got a 0.78" 5-shot group with this setup. Note that this was in Lake City brass, trimmed to 2.003 with an OAL of 2.80.

Absolutely!

De-primed, trimmed, swaged, cleaned and primed 100 .308 cases getting ready to load Varget for the first time in two years. Had to dig out my testing for 168 g BTHP and 175 g BTHP to see what loads were best. Getting too old to remember that far back.

Howdy from the Texas side of the borders and thank you for your service.

Same as Shepp, 5W-30. I typically leave it immersed in oil in a plastic packing sleeve overnight, wipe it off with a paper towel, and then hit the range.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
EngrBob replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Mule Deer and Whitetails are the prime critters. A couple of counties have Pronghorn but you need a special permit for them. Wild hogs are considered exotic and there is no season but you need to have a license (that was the primary reason for building the .338 Federal). -
Howdy from the Texas side of the borders. As Shepp says, lube it well (Mobile 1 on the BCG works for me), start with one round and work your way up. I've never had a store bought AR so I can't help you with that model, but take it a step at a time and see what happens. I have had to enlarge gas ports, dial adjustable gas blocks up and down, change springs and buffers, and other fixes to "tune" new builds, but that is part of the fun.
