  1. I hadn’t looked at TacSol yet — thanks for that! Their barrel, BCG, and magazine combo might be just the ticket. https://www.tacticalsol.com/ar-22-series-uppers/ar-22-barrelandbolt
  2. I've long considered a .22LR upper and, now that I've pert-near cleared myself out of rifle projects, I think it's time to build one. Well, two, actually. One for my 2 y/o (once she's old enough and past Crickets and 10/22s), and one for our little boy who's due in June. They'll be complete rifles, built on 80% lowers, identical in every way, except serial numbers. I want to get these done now, while they're still legal and able to be "grandfathered in." I've got complete spreadsheets on them -- they're looking like they could be sub-5 lbs. Anyhow... On to my question. I know CMMG makes a dedicated BCG setup. And I know Clint Beyer is making high-speed-low-drag AR .22LR barrels that are compatible with the CMMG setup. But I also know CMMG's track record and the reputation they carry around here... Enter 2A Armament. Their titanium BCG looks like a slick deal. But they offer a whopping one (1) barrel for a dedicated setup -- a 16" aluminum bull with a stainless sleeve. I've been a fan of Clint Beyer's barrels since I got into 10/22s, and would love to do business with him. He offers several different profiles and lengths of aluminum .22LR AR barrels, but I hate that his barrels are married up to CMMG. Are there any other reputable manufacturers of dedicated rimfire BCGs and/or barrels that I haven't stumbled upon yet? TIA, fellas!
  3. Thanks for the kind words, fellas. @jtallen83 while we were getting it all together last night, he looks at me and says, “I think I wanna build a 9mm AR for the wife.” Right. “For the wife.”
  4. So... it’s late. That’s a Faxon Gunner 16” middy...
  5. Well, gents, the Old Man finally made it down to OK. He started on his 80% lower Sunday afternoon and it was going extremely well. “This is ridiculously easy!” he said. Then Murphy showed up. Turns out it REALLY DOES MATTER that you check the end mill and the collet on the router every few passes. 4 passes from being done with milling, the end mill decided to walk itself right out. Nice little paperweight he has now. We were both upset, but he was almost beside himself. He cleaned up the garage and went to go back in the house. “Where you going?” I asked. “Inside to order another 80%.” “Well, the lower is toast. But we still have all these parts for the upper. Let’s got to assembling!” His face lit up. Next day, I e-mailed Right To Bear and explained what happened. I placed an order for another 80%, and Rob made sure it made it out the same day. It showed up Wednesday, and the FIL began carefully doing the work. Got it all done Wednesday after dinner. We began assembling the lower last night, and hit a snag. The selector lever hole is 0.375”, and the Luth-AR lever was 0.379”. After some careful filing, test-fitting, filing, and test-fitting, we got it into place this evening. Installed the MBT and buffer tube, and all checks out fine. I’d bought an MFT Minimalist buttstock and a MagPul SL-K, as well as a MagPul MOE grip and an assortment of LaRue A-PEGs for him to try out. He settled on the SL-K and rough black A-PEG. A good little combination! Altogether, with the BA Modern 16” middy, she weighs 6.006 lbs. He’s damn pleased! Forgive the terrible pics — it’s late, and I’ll try to get some better ones tomorrow before they head out.
  6. This post: seems to validate that. Seeing as how he only has 2 posts here (both in this thread), and no one has asked any questions which would lead one to believe they are confused about what he's looking for, I'd bet Shepp is dead-nuts.
  7. I see it as Benchmade doing their local LE agency a solid. If the law requires these specific, individual weapons be destroyed, then so be it. It's not as though Benchmade is teaming up with anti-gun groups and offering their services in furtherance of "cutting guns out of America." I'd say give them a pass, but I don't see this as a situation where a pass would be necessary.
  8. @98Z5V I spoke with someone at Criterion a year or so ago re: the barrel I ended up buying for my CSASS. With the exception of the barrels they make for Fulton Armory, Criterion "AR-10" barrels are DPMS-based in every sense -- extensions are DPMS-spec, and gas systems are DPMS/AR-15 standard lengths. The FA barrels use Armalite gas port locations, with DPMS-spec extensions.
  9. Not a problem! I just found out about it myself -- purely by accident -- and thought I'd share!
  10. You can find even better deals on their sister site, DVOR. Just sign up with your email address. You just have to double-check the prices before you jump in and buy something. Some of their “sale prices” aren’t that great, after you figure in $9.99 shipping.
  11. Ever since I got into building/modifying ARs, OpticsPlanet has been one of my go-to retailers. I've never really needed to test out their customer service until today. I placed an order last week for a Ballistic Advantage .308 barrel and a Gas Block Genie (going to see if this works better than the HB Industries "alignment pins" I've been using). Prior to placing the order, like always, I found a product I'd ordered previously and did a quick review of it to get my 7% off coupon. I applied it to my cart and checked out (with some fiddling around with PayPal in between). Unbeknownst to me, any time you leave your cart on the OpticsPlanet website, it removes any discount code you've entered. So it has to be re-entered. I noticed this this morning, while checking on the status of my order. So I called OP to straighten it out, figuring they'd just tell me to cancel that order and place another with the code applied. No big deal. While I'm on hold, I browse their website and discover their Presidents' Day Sale (10% off). So my new plan is to cancel last week's order and order the same products, but with the 10% off coupon. When the CS rep answers, I explain the situation to him and tell him I'd just like to cancel the order (since it was placed before the Presidents' Day Sale started). His response? "No need. I'll get you taken care of." He applied the 10% and refunded the $20.13 from the discount to my card. Done deal, no questions asked, no hassle. Other than being on hold for 25 minutes.
  12. OP has their Presidents' Day Sale going on now -- 10% off any order $50 or more (discount limited to $1,000 off). VTFEB19.
  13. I meant to add this example, but I waited too long to edit my post... My DPMS LR-308T, with 16" HBAR, carbine-length gas system, DPMS-standard buffer and spring, and DPMS-standard flash hider, was a beast when I got it -- the recoil was quite substantial. I added a heavy buffer and Armalite spring from Slash, and a Smith Enterprise "Good Iron" muzzle brake and it felt like a completely different rifle. Mild-mannered and well-behaved. I then took it one step further and added an SLR adjustable gas block (which may make it possible to revert back to the DPMS-standard buffer and spring), but I haven't had an opportunity to get it out and tune it all up just yet.
  14. In my experience, felt recoil is more a function of gas system, buffer system, and muzzle device.
  15. The original quality formula, a hard setting, economical sealant. Seals all common gasketing materials in low temperature and low pressure applications. Temperature range -65°F to 350°F (-54°C to 177°C); resists diesel fuels and most shop fluids. Curious as to how much good it would actually do, especially in high RoF situations.
  16. No worries, I know you've got several irons in the fire. Plus there was SHOT. I expect my father-in-law will want to build a .308 or 6.5CM after we get his 5.56 rifle together (they're coming down in a couple weeks, and I can finally get this box o' parts out of my way...). I'll definitely hit you up on the next go-around!
  17. Sorry to re-rail this thread, fellas... ? We got tired of waiting for DVOR to list the 16" Mid Faxon (the 18s and 20s have been all over DVOR lately...), and everyone else is out of stock. I sent a message to Robo re: pricing, but didn't hear back. So... I got an e-mail today from Right To Bear re: their Presidents' Day Sale. BA Modern 16" Mid for $169.99. Checked out OpticsPlanet, and they're listing them at $181.31. Wrote a quick review on some Leupold Alumina scope caps, got my 7% coupon, and ordered one up for $168.62, free shipping. It'll be a touch heavier than the Faxon (35.9 oz. vs. 30.6 oz.), but this rifle should still come in under 8 lbs. And the BA 1 MOA guarantee is something he can brag about, though we all know accuracy guarantees on barrels really aren't a thing one should concern himself with...
  18. Measurements of your lower (outside-outside) would be helpful. You shouldn't be concerned with quality on a Fulton Armory complete upper -- every one of theirs comes with at least a Criterion Hybrid-weight barrel installed, but you have the option of choosing a different barrel -- any of the ones they stock and sell individually. Their uppers are built-to-order, so you get lots of choices.
  19. There have been quite a few threads around here like unforgiven talked about. Recoil systems on the PA10s seem to be problematic. If you don't mind having to tinker with and/or replace parts of a rifle before it'll run right, then PSA might be the way to go. But I always recommend a guy who has the ability, time, and desire to buy tools build his own rifle... As an aside, I've actually got a "challenge build" going on right now. A buddy of mine was looking at exactly that rifle, back when it was selling for $800. I told him to bump his budget up $200 and we'd build him a much better rifle than he'd ever get from PSA. And it'll run, right out of the gate. I'm just waiting for the barrel we want to go on sale, and we'll come in at a grand total of $1,022, including 2 mags and MagPul BUIS.
  20. FWIW, I ordered my last MBT on 12/19/18. Received my shipping notification on 1/18/19. So they're kicking them out about 30 days after you place your order.
  21. Are we talking spare parts kits for range/hunting rifles, or are we at full-tilt TEOTWAWKI/WROL/[insert scourge here]-pocalypse? Because 5 BCGs and 3 of just about everything else sounds like "they ain't makin' 'em no more, I gotta stock up!" For my range/hunting rifles, I'm keeping 1-2 of most small parts in my "builder" tool bag. I'm not going to destroy a gas tube or BCG any time soon with what I'm doing...
  22. This was my thought, too.
  23. My understanding is shooter ate one of his own bullets.
  24. I hope the muzzle is threaded. Ditch that stupid comp (on a .22 WMR? Really?) and thread on a can -- now we're having fun.
