Clockwise and Vinca have good reviews at about the same price as HF. As an aside, if you use Firefox, you can add FF Review Checker extension to the the browser to review the reviews on Amazon, Walmart and BestBuy for reliability. I also confess I'm using the same HF calipers I've had for 5+ years. Good enough for my rare use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018D9JPPA/?tag=bovi01-20&asc_source=browser&asc_refurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bobvila.com%2Farticles%2Fbest-digital-caliper%2F&ascsubtag=0000BV0000130907O1280058720241125022508&th=1

https://palmettostatearmory.com/kel-tec-sub2000-gen-3-9mm-16-1-15rd-rifle-black-sub2k9glkblk.html#psa_retail_inventory_tab No good reason. Just for some relatively cheap fun. Hell - that is a good reason! -
You did a good thing!

I'm digging it! What's your optic setup? Looks like a thermal with a magnifier.

Welcome from Western North Carolina.

That's some good eats! I'm working on a freezer full of whitetails at present. Lotsa meat from four deer. But nothing really photo worthy. I do love my new Excalibur crossbow. Maybe I'll take a pic of the full freezer once I'm done processing everything!

Also clean the Keltec Sub2K isn't too bad. And, it's a fun little gun.

First, let me say it's a good thing that you're helping your doc get what will suit them best. Just thinking out loud because I still think a shotgun is the best option for a relatively unskilled shooter. Don't know if your range is formal with lanes and targets, or less formal and you can set up a variety of types of targets. But most folks are impressed with the effect of a shotgun on a cantaloupe😁 Shoot it a couple of times with a 9mm as well to demonstrate the different effects at 10 yds. Also, a 20 gauge might be better for these folks than a 12. Wishing I still had the SxS double barrel 20 Savage Fox I killed my first deer with (and dozens of squirrels) back when I was 11-12. Damn effective gun for a relative novice. Just line up the two beads and POW! Target is down. Again just my 2 cents - and that's what most opinions are worth!

If they are not comfortable with a shotgun, then the gen 3 Kel-Tec Sub2000 9mm w/ a red dot is a good option. Very light, reliable and uses Glock pistol mags. Relatively cheap as well.

Mossberg 500 w/ a shortish barrel and buckshot is my first grab for HD. But I am old school (and kind of old).🫠

Rifle is rated at for 150g loads - but it doesn't shoot good groups with that load with the 290g bullets I use. 4-5" spread at 75 yds. Backed it down to 100g and I am getting more like 1-1.5" groups which is better. But still too many random flyers. Trying a different primer next time. Tomorrow is the beginning of bow season in SC. So, that's where my focus is today. Heading down to a buddy's farm to trade him some work and steaks for early access to the back 75 acres 😀

In this day and age, I like to give a shout out for good customer service when encountered. Recently had an issue with my CVA muzzleloading boom stick. CVA/BPI customer service has been excellent. They quickly addressed my email and sent free replacement parts to fix the problem. 😁 -
Recently ordered some CCI Small Game Subsonic .22 LR 40gr Lead Hollow Point for the canned 10/22. I've heard folks say these rounds also worked well in suppressed semi-auto handguns including the Taurus, Sig and Browning, but that's hearsay - not personal knowledge. You might want to try to find some CCI Uppercut 22LR Ammo 32 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point. It is specifically designed for suppressed pistols. Rated at 960 fps I confess to being a CCI when it comes to .22LR ammo. It has just consistently performed in my experience, when others fail. I have entertained the thought of getting a threaded .22LR pistol to get dual use out of the Banish 22 can. I really liked the feel of the Ruger Mark IV Lite, but it's pushing $600 after tax, and I'd want to put a Holosun red dot on it - because my eyes are getting old - so that about $300 more after tax. Too much squeeze for the juice. Especially with Kamalaism apparently on it's way. I think I'll invest my money in fish hooks and canning jars instead. In the face on Venezuelan-like inflation, I will just eat what I can hunt and gather.

Pretty sure I have some standard velocity CCI .22 in the hoard that is rated at 1060 fps. I'll try that next with the Banish 22. But right now it's time to get ready for bow season. Less than 2 weeks away in SC and I friggin left my bolts at the lake house in VA. Drive 9 hrs round trip to retrieve or order duplicates from Midway. They always ship fast (though not always free). Sux to be getting old and forgetful. Better than the alternative.

Recently got a Banish 22 for a fairly nice Ruger 10/22 with a heavy long SS barrel. Not as quiet as I had hoped - definitely not "Hollywood" quiet. On the plus side, it is definitely quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection. So no need to find plugs or muffs before popping that groundhog in the garden. Also, I'm wondering if I need to find slower ammo. The rifle groups well with CCI Minimags 36g hollow points rated at 1260 fps at sea level. I was thinking the speed rating was an optimal rating, so it would probably actually be below the speed of sound (1116 fps) at sea level. But I'm pretty sure its "cracking" the sound barrier. Sounds louder down range than at the gun. The Ruger with the heavier longer barrel may also be getting the full speed out of the bullets. I don't have anyway to measure it. I also recently learned that the speed of sound decreases with elevation. The lake cabin where I'm at now is about 600 feet above sea level and my home where the ground hogs roam is about 2150. So the speed of sound will be a bit lower the higher up I'm shooting. Luxury problems for sure.

Good to know - but still broke 🙃

Never shot a .50 cal. pistol. But I've been fiddling the last few days with 150g loads getting my .50 cal muzzleloader smoke stick getting ready for deer season. Been told by the fam and neighbors it sounds like I'm shooting a f-ing cannon. I can't really tell with my hearing protection. But maybe I'll back it back down to 100g. 😇

Banish 22 finally cleared through the Federal bureaucracy. Took about 10 months. I can now more quietly control the groundhogs. If it weren't such a PITA, I'd get one for my .308s, for the benefit of those nearby when I'm shooting (and my dogs). Might still do it for the dogs' sake. Love those guys. Wondering how long it would take if I skipped the trust process. Then again, at this point, I'm fairly broke. FJB/FKH

That is great news! My WW is still my go to and grab AR10, while the Daniel Defense remains largely a safe princess.
