  1. The typical 308 AR isn't piston driven (though a select few are), rather are Direct Impingement systems and thus aren't as adversely affected by overgassing. Semi-autos like the M1 and it's variants can be sensitive to the issues you are talking about, but the average large-frame AR probably won't be unless it's a piston-driven system. I'd venture to say that outside of shooting suppressed, off-the-shelf ammo won't be a concern with regard to a DI gas system.
  2. The answer to all of those questions is a definite and emphatic NO. You should be far more wary of shooting handloads through your 308 AR than off-the-shelf ammo.
  3. Man am I relieved to hear you say that, I've had the same concerns of late. Bringing the topic back on track literally greyed a few of my hairs, I'm pretty worried about him too.
  4. Yessiree! I want this on a t-shirt STAT!

  6. *insert 45 minutes of purple faced cursing here* It just simply didn't happen today. I got to the shop ready to do my bit, and the whole thing fell apart piece by piece, and ended up with the machines being needed for work more pressing than mine. So, it looks like I'm going to be making attempt #2 at this project next weekend. Dammit all!
  7. You're right on brother, 20 degree taper and a minimum rear shoulder height of .920. The collar is going to be .936 so that my gas block will still slip over it with it in place, has a female 45 degree chamfer in the rear to match the profile of the front of the gas block shoulder. Overall length is 1.066 and on the front is the 20 degree gas seal taper coming rearward. Here's the drawing that Daniel Dregne sent me:

    Finally!

I'm going to the machine shop tomorrow to cut the taper attachment for my barrel so I can attach my suppressor. This has been a long time coming, and I'm really excited. Keep your fingers crossed that I get the part right on the first go. If it all goes well, I'll be updating my suppressor timeline thread with some range pics/video.
  9. I'll send you a PM with further instructions... <thumbsup>
  10. Hot diggity! I'll take the one on the left... You guys can fight over the rest!
  11. It just has to be a picture of your actual item, it doesn't have to be eligible for any awards.... :) If you have pictures, we can walk you through getting them on here.
  12. Medic, do you have any pictures of the item?
  13. I noticed the same thing, but it looks like it makes the charging handle more accessible that way, which leads me to believe it's intentional.
  14. Hey this would probably do great in the for sale section, just add your picture to the post and we'll move it there for you.
  15. This is now my ringtone, thanks for sharing Jon!
  16. I'm downloading it now, if you PM me with your info, I'll send it to you from my own phone, along with my info so you know it's me.
  17. That particular site has been blacklisted because it's a blatantly anti-gun corporation, and spends significant money on anti-gun lobbyists. I personally do not patronize them if I can help it at all.
  18. Homemade cheeseburgers with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, worcestershire and A1 sauce, and sauteed onions & mushrooms. MMMMMM, that's GOOD!
  19. Slam firing is possible but seems improbable outside of extremely sensitive primers. The firing pins in these beasts are pretty light, and rely on a good strong hammer spring.
  20. It's not a dumb question at all. I use the way the safety operates to verify that my rifles aren't stored with the firing mechanism under tension. If I pick up my rifle and can engage the safety, I know I need to verify an empty chamber and take the tension off the firing mechanism. If I can't, I know I will have to cycle the bolt before the rifle can be fired. It's a double-safe standard, if the safety can't be engaged, it can't be fired.
  21. I'd be willing to bet dies are difficult to obtain, and pulling the lever on the sizing die would tire you out pretty quickly too.
  22. Hey brother, I'll trade you everything I know about this platform for range time on your 1k ranges.... <laughs> <thumbsup>
  23. Hey, go ahead and post a WTB/WTT ad for your BCG and since you've sold this, I'll go ahead and close it. It's fine to post your stuff up for sale, you're contributing to the community so far, we're good with it.
  24. He's trying to approve, definitely. You can't beat two cat eyes and a bullseye all at once, there's just no trumping that.
  25. Hey brother, it's a great scope, nobody's going to knock it... Edge is only picking with you. It's pretty laid back around here, if somebody really snobs you, that won't be tolerated. I think you made a great choice, congratulations brother.
