  1. Woody is a pretty disparaging person anyways in my experience. He'd seemingly rather turn down money than make it by honest means. I've stubbornly waited over 2 years now for a LW barrel, and haven't seen hide or hair of it. I think my next dealings with them will be to retrieve the money I spent with them 2 years ago.
  2. There's not a doubt in my mind that you're right. I'm going to fire off one more e-mail to both Steve and Ops Inc. Whoever answers first will probably get to make my collar for me. If neither answers back with a couple days, I'm taking the job to a local machine shop.
  3. I've just sent him an e-mail with my barrel specs. I found out he set up this exact barrel/suppressor combo for a guy known as "garandman", so I'm betting it's a cakewalk for him to finish this thing. I can't believe my suppressor is in hand and I STILL can't shoot it yet... this has to be remedied quick-like.
  4. Thanks Tom, I'm thinking if I have any choice, I'd like to keep all the rigidity I can in my barrel, and modify the collar if at all possible. ADCO seems like the best route to go, should Ops Inc not come through in time. Thanks for the quick info brother, that's exactly what I needed to know.
  5. Thanks Tom, if I don't hear back from Ops Inc in the next few days, I'll give them a shout. I've sent them my barrel specs but I don't know if they're working on my collar, or haven't read my e-mail yet. Either way, I'm dying to shoot this thing. Even considering having the local machine shop make me my collar so I don't have to wait on shipping, but if Ops Inc is going to give me one free of charge, that's the preferred option. Edit: Tom do you know offhand what the nominal ID is on those collars? My barrel measures .800" from forward of the gas block to the muzzle, I'm curious as to whether those dimensions will match or will something have to be modified.
  6. I promise as soon as all the components are on it, it will be making an appearance at the range. It'll be less of a blast to shoot, but more fun by far. <thumbsup>
  7. That's the standard Accu-shot monopod, and it works REALLY well. Steadies up your shot a bunch if you're having a shaky day.
  8. Maybe I should've included a picture of the 10 places I used to have fingernails... <laughs>
  9. Haven't gotten my tapered collar from Ops Inc yet, but we're working on it. In the mean time, I went and picked up my suppressor from the dealer today and have mocked it up on the rifle. Here's the purchase/wait stats: NFA item: Ops Inc 12th .30 cal, via Trust Forms Sent: April 25th, 2012 Check cashed: May 2, 2012 Pending: June 4, 2012 Approved: Nov 5th, 2012 Received: November 11, 2012 Examiner:Dana Pickles Some pics of the mounted suppressor, minus taper collar: One or two more minor details, and then there will be pics and video of rounds going downrange!!
  10. The LMT slipped my mind, good recommendation.
  11. Speaking of recommended reading, Toby has a favorite he'd like to share: Sorry... <laughs> No more derailing your thread, I promise.
  12. As far as ready-made rifles go, this option is hard to beat as well: http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2012-custom-rifles/ga-precision-g.a.-precision-gap-10-.html They have an excellent reputation for both their product, and their customer service.
  13. Somebody throw me a rope, I'm drowning in options.... <laughs>
  14. I like this guy already, brief, to the point, and ready to spend serious money on a .308 AR. Welcome to our den of enablers! Based on your description so far, I'm thinking 18" barrel, spend $500 - $800 on optics and put the rest into whatever rifle best fills the rest of the details in for you. The value that you get out of barrels and triggers CANNOT be overstated. Outside of your own skill with the rifle, they will be primary influences on the accuracy you can achieve, IMHO.
  15. I think this thread has been well served and I'm going to close it, as it's relevance is expiring. If anyone wants to reopen this thread at any time, please feel free to mention it to myself or another Admin/Moderator.
  16. That's a cool trick Robo, who knew you were the MacGuyver of the CHP? <laughs>
  17. Welcome to the forums! You'll enjoy that Mk12 brother, got one myself sometime back and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.
  18. I won't pretend that I don't have high expectations for that kind of money spent myself, but at the same time I just can't see what's being lost here unless the rifle was bought just for the sake of being pretty. Yes, a ding fresh from the factory isn't sunshine and rainbows, but in the total scale of things it's not really this big of a deal either. This is all compounded by the fact that Armalite hasn't had a chance to respond yet.
  19. Don't get me wrong, I love a flawless gun just as much as the next guy, but these rifles aren't really meant to be artwork, they're meant to serve as an implement of lethal force. It isn't going to be any less functional for a slight ding on the ejection port cover. I think your perspective of Armalite will improve with every squeeze of the trigger, but you gotta get beyond the cosmetics to get there.
  20. Thanks to all our American veterans, past and present. God bless you and your families one and all.
  21. ROFLMAO Maybe they don't understand anything but doggie style... <laughs> <lmao> Sorry, I couldn't resist. :cookoo: <munch>
  22. Troy and Magpul are both good recommendations, both have a good reputation. Oh, and welcome to the forums by the way. <thumbsup>
  23. Welcome to the forums! Sorry to hear that you weren't pleased with the state of your rifle when it arrived. Is this something you've discussed with Armalite? Being that they are a primary supporter of our forums here, I'm sure they would appreciate a chance to make amends if this isn't something you've already discussed with them.
  24. You won't have to have a new carrier. The carrier you have will work because the forward assist will catch the rear shoulder on the carrier and push it into battery.
  25. I know right off the bat that they're going for about $125 @ brownells, I don't remember what I gave for mine, but I'm not going to be using it and if you want it, you're welcome to it.
