  1. BTW... I saw Chris and Vince at SHOT this year and they both looked more like dirty inmates than gunsmiths.
  2. Tool... that was way old. I think those charges even got dropped.
  3. It's an adjustable trigger. Have you taken the time to adjust it to your liking?
  4. Holosun optics are surprisingly nice... I bought the PA red dot that 98 is talking about and I actually like the Holosun more. http://www.primaryarms.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=holosun Slightly more than the PA model, but a LOT more bang for your buck.
  5. Okay funny guy. Yes, it took me 16 months from time of order to delivery. That was a time when you had your barrel custom made to order. Now they have off the shelf inventory. I understand their turn around is extremely fast. Especially since NEMO and SI-D are almost exclusively using PROOF barrels. Also... I don't think Mike is involved with PROOF anymore. I spoke with him several times when I was getting my barrel done. He is one hell of a guy, and walked me through step by step on the process. Despite the long wait, I never worried. His constant communication was extremely uplifting.
  6. Don't give him too much credit. Half of those posts are smiley faces and pictures of his cat.
  7. Don't take offense.... I'm just teasing.
  8. Awesome
  9. There's a fee... but they said it'd be minimal since the meat of the barrel is finished.
  10. I do. I have their older "Advanced Barrel System" or "ABS" wrapped barrel. It was their original hand wrapped job. So far it has worked well for me. I met with PROOF at the SHOT show this year, and they stated that their new machine wrapped barrels are even better. They even offered to re-wrap my old barrel. PROOF used to use Mike Rock or Satern barrels. Both are super high grade stainless steel barrels. Now they make their own barrels, in house. They are just as good as ever. If you want a bull barrel performance, without the weight, go for the PROOF. If you want a lightweight barrel, get an actual "lightweight contour" barrel. My barrel is a true HBAR. It's .875 diameter at the rifle length gas block, on a 17" barrel.
  11. Windham is a Bushmaster ORC. Literally, the same machines and same techs. They separated a couple years ago. The cut and quality is about the same.... which means it's basically a DPMS, since they're all under the parent Remington (Freedom Group) company.
  12. I came out of it ok, but i can't say the same for him. I think I got my point across to him... several times. I'll pm you the details.
  13. You will need to replace your gas block. I can't tell for sure which you have, but I'm pretty sure it's held in place with a set screw. That's an easy job. Check out a SLR adjustable gas block. It's a little pricier, but will soften the recoil on your carbine gas system. A muzzle device should be considered a MUST as well. A good brake or compensator will make a world of difference.
  14. You can always invest in an adjustable gas block. They can assist in regulating gas in an over gassed rifle. They are most appropriate with a carbine gas system... if you have longer gas and want to use an adj GB, you can invest into a low mass BCG and buffer system (See JP Rifles LMOS for more info on that)
  15. I "had" heated grips.... Then a DUI/DWI driver hit me and broke my left grip cable. I had to have the whole system replaced just because of ONE WIRE. Oh well.... state money C:-) .... Thanks for the new grips Farkle
  16. Crap. I hate motorcycle crash stories.... Especially with how many hours I put in on one. The age limit for a motorcycle should be raised to 30. I lost a friend of the family in a VERY similar accident.... Too fast in the fog. Riding home from a bar at 2am (toxicology says he was sober). He missed a turn on a country road and went off the road. His chest hit the center, between the handle bars, and the coroner believes that impact severed the arteries from his heart. The bike disintegrated on impact and left our friend crumpled next to a ranchers driveway... he was discovered 4 or 5 hours later. I can't even count how many times I've stared my maker in the eyes while riding... Good thing he doesn't want me yet.
  17. CDNN was cheaper... and they just notified that it has already been shipped. *** I'm working a 16hr shift today. I had a 2am start. My motor is in the shop getting a new clutch, tires, brakes and heated grips... So, I'm grounded and goofing off with you guys today.
  18. The longer the gas system, the softer the cycling of the action. This can reduce recoil and smooth out the firing. More gas is expanding inside the barrel vs exhausting through the gas port. The .308 AR is notoriously OVER gassed and the carbine gas systems (on the 16"+ barrels) tend to have some cycling issues, creating failure to feed problems. In some cases the action cycles so fast, the carrier ejects the casing so fast that it returns to battery faster than the next cartridge can be lifted in the magazine. The .308 cartridge has a LOT of powder in it. I honestly believe a rifle length gas system would work on a 14.5" barrel... maybe even a 13.7"... with the right gas block. Piston operated systems, when timed and tuned properly, don't have the same issues. In fact, when made properly, the piston can be significantly shorter (even pistol length) as the gas system regulates the amount of pressure it wants to use. A baffle system prevent excess gas exhaust. An extra long piston set-up can get be significantly heavier than a direct impingement system.
  19. It looks like CDNN had what I needed... Raped in S&H
  20. I have an older Colt lower with the large .315 pivot pin hole, with a newer upper having a .250 pivot pin hole..... My GAWDAMN pivot pin adapter fell out, and is no where to be found. this is what I need.... The problem is...... I can't find anyone selling one???? Not Brownells. Not MidWay. Not DSG. Not BCM. NO ONE!! Help a guy out???
  21. That was a serious fuckin test. I saw that rifle at SHOT, and it is completely fucked up. They have that SOB proudly on display... and rightfully so! No one has ever done a test like that since... They've been close, but not to that level of extreme.
  22. I paid range fees for the first time in 10+ years hanging out with Farkle. I drank my fees worth of "complimentary" coffee in the club house.
